This game is fun and a solid experience. If you're looking for the sense of fantasy and emotional range of Cave Story you'll be a bit disappointed, but you do get arguably more refined gameplay, level design and art with Keroblaster. The story was not particularly interesting or impactful, but the characters make up for that a bit. There is also more content than you'll expect at first. Calling the mode you unlock after completing the main story "Hard Mode" is a complete disservice to it, because it provides a lot more new content and difficulty and IMO a more interesting story.

It felt like most of my deaths were caused by getting crushed. It's frustrating having to restart at the beginning of a whole long level in this game. I'd rather just replay cave story.
