Clash Force is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. But this one is worse, because it's a cheap nasty mobile app that's been dumped here by greedy iPhone devs to try scam PC gamers. Gameplay itself is tired and dead 2D platforming with an emphasis on shooting/bullet hell gameplay aspects. It does "work", but badly, for this long list of reasons I'll get into right now. From a technical perspective, as a mobile app, this doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The mobile app only displays in a bizarre 1:1 aspect ratio. Like... do they own a completely square monitor? Has the developer never seen a computer before? This isn't really acceptable, and it's unclear why the developer couldn't format the game correctly. Another reason to avoid this. Because this is a mobile app, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the iPhones that the mobile app was designed for. These are unfortunate handicaps and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was an afterthought for the iPhone developers who are to blame for this. The mobile app is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for mobile phones forces upon a game. Once more, mobile devs have made gaming worse for everyone. I didn't spend thousands on building a gaming rig just so I could pretend it's an iPhone. Some of the defects in the mobile app can be attributed to the choice of using the Clickteam Fusion construction kit - the "No-Code" construction kit that "Anyone can make games with!!". Including, you know, people who aren't game developers. Which is a problem. This is a very poor quality toolset sometimes used by amateur developers as it's free (so they don't have to pay for GameMaker Studio) and doesn't require advanced game development skills, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities (it's arguably worse than GameMaker Studio). Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. So it's inappropriate when amateurs try to use these for profit, without any actual, real game development effort taking place. This doesn't result in products that have any real meaningful value for gamers. These technical defects push this mobile app below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this mobile app is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 5 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality mobile app is to be expected. Once more we see greedy mobile devs trying to scam PC gamers. On Steam, this is $5 USD, on app stores, it's usually $1 (but sometimes FREE). Mobile devs must learn PC gamers are not here to be gouged, and can't be expected to pay FIVE TIMES THE PRICE for a cheap mobile game just because it's been lazily dumped on Steam. This is unacceptable disrespect for PC gamers. Because this is a mobile app, is priced to insult and gouge PC gamers, and because of the other defects, it's impossible to recommend. Just who do they think we are?
This game tries to mix the gameplay/characters of Bucky O' Hare with the level design/difficulty of Contra to horrible effect. Your character has no difference on gameplay that I noticed. Furthermore, your character can't aim in any direction or even crouch. This means you can sometimes get hit because you tried to jump around an enemy to hit it and got hit yourself. Bosses have enormous health pools and most enemies take multiple hits. So why not just hold to auto-fire like Contra right? Wrong. You have to spam the ever-loving, skin-ripping crap out of the fire button in order to beat the simplest of bosses. Oh yeah, the bosses. The one with the spikes slowly approaching is a neat idea, but it falters in the lasers fired by the evil doctor. The lasers don't work on the same grid system as the levels themselves, meaning a laser can skim your head while you're standing still, and you'll get hit. If I were to improve this, I would add an auto-fire, a crouch, and a melee move that does triple the damage so you can stop getting unfairly hit and fight back against unfair enemies that also reward you for risky play. There are better indie games than this, but the price is fair for what you're given.
I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay. After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like. Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends. Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together. Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that. Thank you.
Honestly, it needs an auto-fire button. If you don't want to use Autohotkey for that, prepare to mash the everloving sh*t of your shoot button. Aside from that, pretty fun NES Metroid-like game. Some levels are hard, but the game is overall easy. Getting 100% took only 4 hours. I'd say 6.5/10
Very very mediocre retro arcade - run and gun platformer. I have played many many better games of the same genre. There are some obvious telltale signs that this is not a quality game: - you can just shoot left or right ( you can't shoot up or diagonally, let alone aiming where you want), - all weapons do the same damage, it's just a matter of how much they spread out, - there isn't anything to upgrade or buy, - there is hardly anything to pick up during the levels, - there is no double jump, to jump higher you need to hold the jumping button, which is not as precise as a metod to jump as when you have double jump. Also the level design is bland. In terms of difficulty, 3/4 of the game are ok and somewhat fun, but then the last quarter is very frustrating, hectic. A lot of the last 6,7 levels are ridiculous. I managed to beat the game on normal (with a great deal of trying and re-trying and frustration ), but I just couldn't on hard. You have 21 levels.
Clash Force pros: //fast game with modern day graphics with easy controls that moves from location A to B to C and so on cons: //a lot of difficult battles //a lot of difficult platforming //some overpowered enemies //some enemies have unfair attacks //could use more health drops and powerups //somewhat repetitive //platforming is at master level regardless of difficulty settings //good game Personal Suggested Purchase Price: $0.49 Or Less During Sale
Um jogo simples e divertido! tem uma Gameplay bem suave e satisfatória, com as físicas parecendo de Super Metroid, e o combate parece de Contra. Vale a pena, é um jogo bem barato, e rápido.
YOU WON'T GET AWAY WITH THIS CRACK MAN!!!
I really like the graphics but that's about it. the gameplay is extremely basic, just left right jump shoot left and right. You can't use the D-pad to move. The difficulty just gets higher and higher to the point its unfair, like in the one level you ride on missiles and you have a split second to react to oncoming enemies and lasers while jumping from missile to missile becasue the missiles slowly fall, oh yeah and the back ground has a bunch of clouds going past, making you react to background clouds and jump into an actual enemy. started fun but became unfair.
A retro 2D shooter whose design looks similar to Sonic and gameplay similar to Contra
Simple gameplay and story. Good characters and sound design. Nothing too flashy or fancy just your good ol' nostalgic SNES era shooting game. Recommended for anyone looking for a quick and simple gaming session. Final Score : 7.2/10
