Kao the Kangaroo: Round 2 (2003 re-release)

This game is a huge evolution from the previous one, not only visually, but also in terms of gameplay. It's much more fun than the previous one, and I can't wait to play the third one.

Playing this with purely Keyboard is a nightmare, honestly having to use the arrow keys to move the camera, the default settings were just painful to use. Now when I switched to my Rog Ally X at 7w mind you absolute minimum possible power usage. I still managed to get over 180fps at 1080p and zero stuttering or frame drops so the game is made extremely well, which makes sense for its time. Gameplay wise, it's a really enjoyable 3D platformer collectathon from 2003 with certain awkward features like the swimming. I was not told to hold LB and press A to actually swim because I thought to spam A at the speed of light to move inches, turns out I had to hold another button to actually gain momentum. Later on in the game there's also a section where you need to fly on someone's back and they can only jump 5 times before resting. I struggled so much at that bit until I found out from a discussion that if you spam the jump button there wont be any tight jumps. I feel like the game fails to explain certain mechanics to a tee but I figured it out in the end with some help from people on the discussions. The collectables also reward you which is unexpected and genuinely really fun. Collecting 50 purple shards unlocks a bonus level with no proper reward (to my knowledge) coins are the main collectable to get to the end of the game and then there are stars where you get an upgrade to an ability every 50 stars which makes collecting, discovering and fighting enemies more rewarding. Overall for the sale price of this game which my spouse bought for me because they know I enjoy these types of games, it's a steal. 7 hours for less than £1 of gameplay with sale price. Without sale price you're still making your moneys worth and I definitely enjoyed it. I wish the first and the 3rd game had achievements though :(
