This is definitely a mixed bag for me, but not because of the gameplay, so I will get to that last. From a gameplay perspective this is a fixed location teleport game ONLY. I mention this because that's a deal breaker for some people, while it does harm immersion for me I do understand how it allows the developer to curate the experience a bit more.. and in a story-first game I can respect that. Production values are for the most part good. Enough detail, actual voice acting is not only present but reasonably good. The story is interesting thus far, very cyber punk-esque which is welcome. All around a good effort in my opinion. Now here's the rub, for a game which was admittedly "funded" I have a problem paying $5 for what essentially should be a free demo. This is hardly enough content to be considered a proper prologue, the only reason you see .4 hours on my play time is because I went AFK for a bit, and visited every single teleport point, and read every single item I could so that I could get a proper view of the story to be told. For most people this is probably 20 minutes of content at best. Were it not funded? That might edge me into the realm of willing to pay a few dollars for it to support development, but when you get into $5 and above I have some expectations beyond a demo, and one with no replay value at that. We all have our own code about such things, however, so I felt it best to report back my experience honestly and openly. :) Happy VRing to all!
It is not meant to be a game in the true sense of the word, but rather an interactive film. Kamile: The Fall is set in 2084, at a time when the job market is already dominated by AIs. In order to earn a living, people are forced to make their knowledge available for so-called neural mining processes, thus further strengthening the abilities of AIs. We play in Kamile: The Fall the role of Kamile, the wife of a brilliant scientist who wants to develop a new generation of AI. However, when a tragic incident occurs at work, a family drama develops. Kamile is forced to fight to protect her son and his secrets. So much for the story to be told. Camile: The Fall shall be told and published in several chapters. Although the program supposedly only recognizes oculus glasses, it is no problem Kamile: The Fall can be played with other PC-HMDs, too. In the first part of the story, we move camile in the first part of the story so far only by location-bound teleportation, i.e. we can only teleport to certain points. This is probably related to the fact that a certain story is to be told here and the "player" is not distracted too quickly. But a free movement or at least teleportation would be desirable. Interactions in this first part are limited to the most important items and a few common household items. A little more interaction with the environment would have been nice. It is not possible to open drawers or similar things. The graphics are not gorgeous but sufficient to make you feel like you are transported into the near future in cyberpunk style with fleeting cars. The good English Syncro also contributes to this. The protagonists are all very easy to understand. So far Kamile:The Fall is a short story of about 30 minutes with some interaction for the viewer. For fans of the cyberpunk- and adventure genre surely worth a look. Very recommended for people who like a story-driven game. Works great on Oculus Rift.
This is a story that you will get in episodes ... and it will keep you hooked all he way .. i cant wait for episode 2 already
Atmospheric and good cyberpunk vr story prologue. A real game would be awesome. At the moment it is more like a very short tech demo. Check it out if you like to support developers. https://youtu.be/Itk9tEyLpb0
Experienced on the Oculus Rift
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/Q8HL5NwozKY This is an approximately 15 minute long VR cinematic experience with a few interactions & 2 mini-games. It's a prologue to a story which may never be completed. The story starts out nicely and the world-building was good. The voice acting was also nicely done. However, everything else about this game is not good. You teleport via nodal teleportation. You can pick up items with your magnet hands, but most of them don't do anything. You can read notes to get background on the story. You can play drums which is actually the best interaction in the game. Unfortunately, there are two mini-games in this game. They are both boring & tedious. Some of the most awful inclusion on interactions that really do nothing but leave a bad taste in your mouth about the VR cinematic experience. I honestly think the experience would have been better without them or a very truncated version of them. Yes, they are that bad. At the end of the day, $5 USD is not a lot of money. However, while the story was intriguing, the rest of the experience was not. I cannot recommend this game at the currently listed price. Please note: I did buy this on sale for $2.49 USD during the Steam Fall Sale 2019 and that is a much better price point given the quality & quantity of the content here. Rate 4.5/10. Close call, but the bad interactions really put a sour taste in my mouth. Would have been better as a 100% cinematic experience with no interactions (when interactions are this bad).
if you have $5 for a 13 minutes long interactive short movie, you will like this. pro: cyberpunk bladerunner-ish environment. con: it's quite short, not much interaction, more like a short tech demo than a full story.
First, it's a story-first experience. Love the concept. Gameplay could be a bit more hands on with slightly less downtime, but it might be just my temper. I would've loved to listen to audio recordings while on the move. The story is mind-bending. With the setting they chose, the possibilities are endless. Extra points for the soundtrack, clearly a lot of care was put into the details. If I would have to think of something more well known that you could compare this to, the flow and gameplay in general reminds me of Vader Immortal. I'm a sucker for Cyberpunk and I'm definitely waiting for more episodes!
I was startled to learn it was almost entirely a narrative driven game as opposed to a sandbox or puzzle game. To an even greater degree, the gaming experience is better than most VR experiences I've had before in that it's a story told while you are sitting on a couch (however standing is more immersive). And to be perfectly frank, free locomotion option along teleport would be nice. But the story and the acting is amazing and will definitely wait for the future updates.
I don't want to spoil too much but you are basically messing with AI computer inside your son's brain. The whole experience makes you feel like you are actually there. 9/10 (10 if free locomotion option becomes available)
