Kabaret

Very nice art style, music and theme songs. I also love the mythology behind it. But sadly the story is weak. It's ok to have a pre-set character in visual novels, but in Kabaret the main character is not quite likeable. Maybe the story try to deliver certain moral through the character, but I can hardly link to him. About the machanism, no manual save, no skip, no fast-forward..... What's the point for a visual novel to not have these functions. I feel like I was forced to watch a slow and bad writting film. Sadly the beautiful graphics and music can't counterbalance the flaws.

can not recommend playing this game. aside from the artstyle this game provides little to nothing to keep me playing for more than a few hours. also do we really need to mention so many times about how handsome the MC is lol ? almost feels like a self insert from the dev oh and speaking of devs.... yea no, will no longer be supporting this studio

This is easily a game of the year contender. Incredible art, music and monster designs. Jebat has some fantastic character development and all of the monsters have their own personality. When they say its dark fantasy, they aren't joking. Even if you make the wrong tea or lose at a mini game it doesn't halt progress. The power bar for Guli is a bit too fast right now. It can can a bit annoying when having to go back and forth looking at the tea recipes but the more you play you remember which ingredients does what. Hopefully some QoL updates can bring, manual saves, auto text and skip already seen text to make other playthough easier to see the other choices. It got me interested into looking into SEA myths and folklore.

[b]Kabaret[/b] is a beautiful interactive fiction filled with Southeast Asian myths and folklore. As the protagonist Jebat, players can meet a plethora of unique monsters, play traditional games, and perform tea ceremonies all whilst questioning his very humanity. Whilst not without its flaws, Kabaret is a quality interactive fiction that has a lot to offer in terms of eclectic characters, an intriguing narrative, beautiful artwork and mesmerising sound design. It will take around 10-15 hours to complete and, though it could perhaps have been a bit shorter, it provides a lot of entertainment through the dialogue and mini-games that are wonderfully blended to create this unique experience. A Visual Novel with mini games, let's say. Full of amazing Southeast Asian folklore, presented to you with beautiful music and breathtaking art. I sucked at the games, but I was an amazing tea master! I had a lot of fun! Even with the sensitive subjects involved, and it was a lot. As it was involved by so many things, I am not going to center my review on this last part. Super recommended!

fantastic story and use of sea myth and folklore, also has very good and charming art, music, sfx, writing, characters, mechanics, atmosphere, paths, conversation choices, etc... there's much to like. doesn't have some qol that most vns have like fastforward/skip read text and multiple save slots that would have been nice to have. still very worth the price and minor annoyances. read it a while ago but very memorable. wish there were more oelvns and vns in general with this high quality.

The storytelling, theme, and art are all amazing. The story is quite dark and depressing. A good visual novel game with an authentic unique touch of South East Asia.

Kabaret, with amazing arts and beautiful BGM will make you fall in love with it the more you play. Other than lore/myths around Southeast Asia, local game such as Guli and Congkak make it more interesting! Every background story on each character will make you love them more. Ey ey ey, but Mayang still number one :3 LOPE YOU FULL MAYANG!! Okay, after I played for the 2nd round of the game to collect the achievements and want to know the other ending of the story ... It's kinda hard to get it without load/save options on the game. Or at least, add skip button for the read text. It's kinda hard to to click-click every text after each other. xD

Scales, Meat, Tea, Oh My! Honestly everything I could want in a game and more. Very interesting and very cool, this funky hotel will be living in my head for quite a while.
