You're Illy Vraja, a teenager at a crossroads in her life who gets invited to Transylvania by her mysterious Great-Aunt, Domnica, only to find out she comes from a long line of witches, and is entitled to enroll in the Transylvanian Institute for Magick!
As a Near-Mage, you are entering a summer preparatory school, hoping to graduate into a full-fledged spell caster. You’ll take classes in different types of Magick and see how you can use your growing powers to affect the lives of those you come across.

We are from Transylvania, Romania ourselves, so we’re doing a deep dive into its rich lore, legends and superstitions, heavily drawing on them in creating Near-Mage’s dark and colorful world.
Travel freely between three main hubs: the real-life town of Sighișoara, the mythical town of Rakus, that lies beyond a Magickal veil and cannot be seen by most, and the Transylvanian Institute for Magick.
Near-Mage will allow for a lot of freedom when approaching the situations you’ll encounter within the Transylvanian Institute for Magick and its surroundings. When it comes to spell-crafting, you can choose what type of classes you’re taking on a whim, or you can look up recipes in a spellbook and strategize your build.

This build variety will in turn lead to different outcomes for some quest lines, affect certain NPCs’ fates, and result in high replayability. Maybe you’ve erased an NPC’s memory on your first play-through. What if you used a different spell on them this time around… or no spell at all?
You’ll be able to play Near-Mage as a point and click, or you can control the character directly. Walk to your objectives, run at full speed, or even fly there!

This is a good game if you know what you're coming in for. Some notes: 1. This is not a point-and-click in any sense, I understand the devs can't control what the store defines as user-identified tags but this is not a pnc and if that's what you're looking for you will not enjoy this game 2. The mechanic of having to search around randomly to progress the story is atrocious and the game should have been designed more akin to a VN than a pnc in this design aspect, but if you find it frustrating and slow, just look up a walkthrough it's not like finding the next place to go is spoilery BUT it is a painfully bad design decision 3. The use of spells is heavily, HEAVILY discouraged in in-game dialogue, which is why other reviewers felt like they couldn't employ the main mechanic of the entire game. If you read these reviews and the dev feedback you'll understand the mechanic properly but it isn't represented well in-game. tl'dr is use spells if you think they'll work and in appropriate circumstance, but if you happen to not have a good spell at a good time, don't just throw them around randomly. This is what the game should have said better. If you keep these things in mind you will love this game. I think it should have been formatted as a VN or interactive story like Sorcery! but it is what it is. You can power through the less optimal travel/discovery mechanics to enjoy a choice-based heavily narrative story that rewards planning and thought.
more of a visual novel than adventure game verry few puzzles no inventory mostly busy work, wandering around talking to the next npc on the list. Game discourages you from using your spells, seems weird to spend half the game learning them to then not use them, takes the fun out of what is sold a a mage game to then find your not supposed to use your magic.
This game sticks to the brain. I think of it often. The world is fun and engaging. I do not believe any game in this genre has ever managed to make the world feel so alive; a real achievement from an indie developer. The character customisation is a great addition (although picking up new things to wear as part of the story development would have been a nice touch) and the story immersive and well told. We do, however, have to talk about the elephant in the room. The concept of a point of click game with spells instead of items is fantastic but it's almost completely redundant. You don't have to cast any spells at all and there is little in the way of puzzle solving. This does feel like a huge missed opportunity as the result is that the game is less point and click and more like a new take on a visual novel. Thankfully it's done well enough, that this is still an enjoyable and I look forward to seeing what Stuck in Attic can do with their notable talent in the future.
Thanks for taking my money for a game I cannot finish. Seems Steam wants money for a demo yo can't finish halfway through. F*uck Steam Map doesn't work Quests can't be completed Used guides and walkthrough This game needs more time in the oven
This game was a very nice follow-up to Gibbous! The continuity was immaculate. Seeing some of the side characters (even some art reuse, if you look at some scenes!) was a fun touch for players of the first game. The story had my full attention for the entirety of my play-time. Your choices REALLY do matter when it comes to NPCs. The changes in the story my choices made each play through made the game feel different each time. Having played both of Stuck in Attic's games, I can honestly say that they have made some great additions to mechanics! Gibbous doesn't have the choice system that this game does. Long story short, I anxiously await what Stuck in Attic has in store for us next.
Fabulous story, I really enjoyed playing it! The hand-drawn style is amazing, the characters are beautiful and memorable! The voice actors did splendid job, the dialogs feel natural and emotional! 10/10, I would love to play it once again as if I didn't know the story.
I really wanted to like it but I'm just exhausted and disappointed
It's certainly not an adevnture, more like a visual novel with wonderful graphics and an intriguing story. Yes, audio quality of the voice actors is sometimes wonky at best, but I actually would recommend this full-price. It's very charming.
