Story: Peak Fight Cutscenes: Holy Peak Gameplay: RGG Standards, It's good enough. Random Encounters: Too much Saori: Cute Mafuyu: Hella cute Subquest: Alot like usual RGG Games Overall it's a very good story driven game if you like a mystery plot in a "noir" style, also some says it got ace attorney vibes to it but i wouldnt say that, it does have great moments in the courtroom though. Looking forward to play the next one. ★★★★☆
I loved this game. An interesting plot that keeps you hooked even if there are some holes here and there, a fun gameplay and the possibility of exploring a small part of Japan and its culture kept me quite fixed to the screen for many hours. I wish the acting would've been better though. I played this right after finishing Red Dead Redemption 2, so the gap in acting skill is undeniable. But well, the story compensates it somehow.
Good Yakuza title. Very good combat (though some encounters do feel unfun and annoying), decent side quests (though the friend system is somewhat annoying in that you have to do things between steps) and some fun mini games. The story is my favorite of the beat-em-up titles I've played (0, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2), though 7 had stronger characters and a better overall narrative IMO. My biggest complaint, as with all of the Yakuza games, is with the pacing. Judgement has an excellent story that is frequently made worse by RGG interrupting their own narrative with pointless "main quest" objectives that have nothing to do with the main quest and serve only to pad the runtime. They come up every single time the narrative is really hitting a stride. It's maddening. No spoilers, but the final mission of the game is (in my opinion) by far the best part, as many key details are revealed and all of the disparate threads of the mystery are converging, and right when the pace is at it's fastest and you're finally about to reach the final confrontation, you're forced to slowly walk in first person through the empty level so you can listen to dialogue about things that have already happened and have been repeatedly brought up. Just in case you forgot, I guess. Also, the "detective" elements were interesting at first but very quickly became tedious. Chases are fine but you essentially have 0 agency in how fast they go beyond hitting some quick time events. I audibly groaned every time a tailing section started. Investigations were boring and played poorly. I did enjoy some of the Ace Attorney style evidence sections, but if they game completely left them out and just had characters talk it out instead, it would have made no difference to my enjoyment. Also, the Keihin gang was super annoying. They would have been much better as a side quest chain instead of constantly filling the map with random encounters and repeated boss fights. RGG, please stop turning amazing 15 hour games into decent 30 hour ones. I am sick of it. Let me enjoy your awesome story and fun combat.
Like: solid story and combat. Dislike: garbage controls make drone racing one of the worst side things they've ever done. The most missable achievements of any of the games.
This is my favorite Yakuza/Like a dragon game. The story is at it's best here with the tension and mystery done very well. The combat does get better in other games, but is still more than good enough. Game looks really good on the dragon engine too. A good way to get into the franchise.
