THIS A DONT DO THIS TO YOURSELF TYPE REVIEW..... I could forgive this crap if it were early access, but its not. This game is embarrassinly bad, as always, i leave the worst for last. Story? none so far, the most i can say is you start looking up from a crib. Gameplay? weeeeell, lets try to be short and sweet with this bs: 1- imagine one of those mazes in which you have to follow the path without touching the borders, now ad what i guess is time limit which you can refill by grabbing balls Pacman style, now ad "everything is 1 hit KO" mechanics, now ad low effort jumpscares in the mix and you got it (btw, these jumpscares stop the gameplay to break whatever flow you may have achieved, but really stalling for you to get out of the refund window is what THAT is). 2-There is another mechanic by which you use the mouse to keep enemies at bay or stop some traps by hovering your mouse over them, your sprite moves, the screen moves, so you need to move the mouse to keep it on that which you wanna stop/keep at bay. 3-The "keeping at bay" is unreliable, meaning those things dont stay put, they try to run from your mouse, and many a times, they run INTO you, which will often cause you to give that one step backwards into the "limits" of the maze and die, having to restart the whole thing (no mid maze check points). 4- theres a death counter which only counts up to 7 and then gets stuck on "max" which implies this turd of a game has an aspect (maybe an alternate ending) which happens if you die less than 7 times. The game never even begun to grab my attention and im gonna refund it, so there aint no way in hell that stupidity is ever gonna be something i look forward to. 5-THE worst: the movement (which i guess is on purpose, since I assume there is so little to this game, they HAVE to pad the game time... not with me, boys). its that crappy inertia movement which gives two more steps AFTER you change direction or stop, also there is a jump button, but it so low it can only jump over holes, not over movable objects, and it so short it only has 2 uses, one for you, one for the developers. Use A is to accelerate and use B is so that you overuse acceleration and run into something (again, everything is 1 hit KO) for more padding of the game time.... oh, btw, the hit boxes are not bad, they are just completely unforgiving.... didt i mention everything is 1 hit KO and there are no mid maze check points?.... yeah... not my money So... who is this for? the kind of obnoxious gamer who is proud of being a masochist, you know, the "if its not hard by any means, its not fun" type
No. Just no. And more no. This game is impossible. At one point I was laughing so hard that tears were streaming down my face and it wasn’t for good reasons. I just….cant with this game. And I am an easy to please person. Trust me when I say that when I say no to something it is a big deal. Thank goodness I got it for free. I wanted this game to be good too. I enjoyed the trailer.
5/10 - Mid; Excellent visuals but actual gameplay suffers greatly ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I hate to leave a bad review on this game, and I wish I could leave a neutral review instead, but I have to say, the other reviewers are, unfortunately, right on this. I bought this game the same day it was released (iirc) and it's just been sitting in my games library as I was hesitant to play it. I called myself wanting to give a small-time dev I had never heard of a try, especially with the game being new, and especially with me never having heard or seen any prior marketing for this title, but man, was I wrong this time. This game, as a positive, nails every single thing right with its aesthetics! The game is so visually distinct, the color scheme with the black, white, gray, and yellow mixed in is great. It definitely has its own identity as a game, especially in its character design, which is only a plus! This aspect, however, is the only good thing I can say about it, with the rest being a complete departure from there. I don't know where to even begin with the downsides of this game, but I can say, to keep it brief, that I really, really dislike how nothing is explained from the moment you fire up the game til the moment you enter the game after clicking "Start". Nothing about any of the mechanics are even shown to the player on what exactly the storyline is and what we're even supposed to do. I feel like there are only a few games where you can jump in blind not knowing how anything goes and it works, but this is not one of those titles at all. Where is the introductory cutscene to show the characters of this world off to us as players? Where are the brief couple lines of text telling us what any sort of objectives are? How TF are we supposed to know what's even happening and what to do next? I actually, despite these flaws, don't even mind that the game is mini games-based, but why is there so little lenience with the mini games? There was a balance change made recently, which is appreciated by those willing to stick with this title, I'm sure, but in my couple minutes of playtime, I couldn't even tell what had been changed. Not to be nitpicky, but also even though there is a small bit of text in the upper right corner letting us know what version of the game it is, there are no in-game logs letting us know of these changes unless we read the Steam posts, and not everybody reads those. There are also no thorough settings within the game to actually change anything other than the music volume, fullscreen, and v-sync...It's kind of a mess. This game needs restructuring as a title IMO to be viable for playing and embracing the level of challenge the dev wants us to meet head-on without it continuing to feel vague and unexplained how it currently does now. I hope they can get their ♥♥♥♥ together. I wanna see this game win, but it needs more work on it because this ain't it in its current state. Great bones are here, just needs more time to cook.
This game is annoying. And fun. Maybe mostly annoying? Anyway, give it a chance :D
Game is impossible. But it is incredibly good and stylish. I have raged my brains out and I will keep doing so.
I feel the concept of a Microgame/Horror Combination would have high potential. However - the execution is questionable, and with better titles available, hardly recommendable for more casual audiences. Most problematically is the lack of content. Even if you consider 100% completion, the only requirement (beyond a Good and Bad Ending) to 100% the game is completing all minigames, which in total, there are 17 ... kind of. In actuality - the 17 is closer to 9 - with another 8 as variations of other minigames. Mostly commonly reskinned are the topdown levels, which from my count - there are 7 of them. As for the others - the Flappy Bird mode gets two variations - while Get X, Avoid Y also has 2. For reference in terms of the amount of variety - WarioWare: Snapped! - a downloadable DSiWare title with one of the smallest sizes in the series - had 20 Microgames (15 if only speaking about Singleplayer minigames) - which from a description read, seem all different from each other in spite of that small roster and limited budget. Even so, the small roster would be fine, if there was incentive to actually replay these challenges. However, the way the game does so is not ramping the speed or difficulty up as you replay them, but instead having them being longer experiences. That would be fine if the game had a reasonable difficulty, but most are surprisingly difficult for a game you can still beat in under an hour (final moment spoilers) -
given you get lucky enough to win the Russian Roulette, which the amount of shots you have to hit yourself with is based on how much you succeeded or failed, despite getting four, I still won the odds.
As a result, you casually won't be completing many of them. For myself, I only really got around to six of them, before warranting closing out, and returning to A Hat in Time over it. To be clear, once you have completed the minigame, there is no incentive to go back in terms of completionist goals. There is an achievement for completing all 19 Minigames, but outside of that, there isn't like a harder variation of each minigame. You can complete them over and over as you wish, but there's no Highscore for winning multiple times in a row. As for being a horror game - a game about scaring the player - I maybe was intimidated genuinely once, and honestly found it more effective as a Rage Game than a Horror Game - which going by the description, I don't believe was the intentions. I love the artstyle of the game, and again - do believe it would enable interesting opportunities to explore as a game. However, I believe the following should be improved upon in a future title like it: 1. Focus on smaller, bite sized minigames, as apposed to 1-3 minute long minigames - to keep the pace up, and give more development time to add more minigames. 2. Leave the difficulty low, as to allow replayability in faster, infinitely playable & ramping in difficulty variations (as one game, rather than multiple). 3. Try some alternative artstyles. It's fine to keep a theme like this around for one portion of the game - especially in the endgame, but I feel the game would be more visually pleasing to have more than three colors on screen. Why not change the art approach as you get closer - to really make the player feel they're progressively going insane with how strange the minigames look? 4. If necessary, adding DLC (whether free in smaller packs, or paid in large bundles) would help expand the game, and better define the game's value. Even as a $3 Title, even as a Free Title, I question if it's worth most people's time and funding. Consider that even the Mindwave Demo offers similar gameplay with more replay opportunity as a game that isn't even finished - just because of a High Score system alone, and can be downloaded for free. Honestly, I would love to see this game improved upon in the future, but as the last major patch was within the first two weeks, I doubt the game will be receiving anymore major tweaks, without being a sequel title. With that, keep improving upon your titles, but as to those questioning a purchase, seek other options personally.
I spend 3 1/2 hours on v.377 in the fappy bird level. I will only say this. Why can't you freeze the spears like on the first levels? Btw this game is for people who like pain, do not recommend unless you want a hole in the wall. Also, lovely art style
As frustrating as this game is, I actually really enJOYed it! (Hehe, see what I did there?) Instead of getting enraged as I would normally feel from dying again and again, I found myself laughing at the absolute insanity that it throws you into. Really loved the simplistic graphics (they are super cute). The color scheme of black, white, gray, and yellow really makes the game pop and gives it that creepy ambiance. The mini games are brutal, but fun and there is a large variety to keep you interested. I got both good and bad endings, just will have to keep working on passing all the mini games! 🫠The game IS hard. You WILL die. BUT, you will have fun doing it!🫠
Emocionante. pero me dio mucho miedo!
