Journey To The Savage Planet

Surprising gem of a game. I got this through some bundle, I think Humble Choice and the art caught my eye. I decided to start it and have a quick look. And that became a few hours somehow. It reminds me somehow of Subnautica (though the core game and the athmosphere are quite different), but I highly enjoy discovering an alien planet. Generally the humour is adding to the fun as well, for example getting accompanied by a SciFi AI, or by enemy descriptions like "Jellyfish Alpha. Got promoted by upper Jellyfish management." I'll definitely finish this and probably also search for the log files that deliver additional story.

Journey to the Savage Planet is a game I should absolutely love, but I just can't. On paper, this should be something I absolutely love. It's similar to Metroid Prime, but less dark and more funny. And the emphasis on exploration and getting new abilities should be appealing. Unfortunately, the sheer tedium gets to me. Things get way too repetitive. And the puzzles just aren't compelling enough for me. Mind you, I haven't played the co-op mode. But as someone who prefer single player campaigns, this one falls flat. There just isn't anything to spur me along, get me to move forward. I do admire the visuals and that it was able to do so much on low spec devices. And the sheer buffoonery of working for the 4th best interstellar space company is funny. But after almost three hours of play, I am bored.
