The first thing I said was "I feel like Samus" and then I felt like Megaman.. I've been asked many times what game I wanted in VR and Metroid was always the answer. This is as close as you're gonna get! The game doesn't come without flaws of course. At the moment there is no smooth turn and there are a few things we have come to expect in games now that are not there.. HOWEVER! The dev watched and took feedback and is very engaged with players which is refreshing to see nowadays. If you're looking for a challenging homage to old skool run and gun type games like Megaman then this is definitely for you!
You wanna feel like MegaMan but in VR this is for you!! Feel free to check out the Sneak Peek Video I Put Together of a little gameplay. https://youtu.be/9hZV03zg9Uo The musical score in this is phenomenally satisfying as you progress your way through the level. The satisfaction of knowing you need to kill or be annihilated and stay on the move . Provides me with what I look for in a VR game. From the moment I pick up my arm gun it's all on. This really brings out the old school retro-ness feeling of running about a nicely detailed environment with not even a 2nd thought of what's coming next... its just you and your weapon. This is well thought out and with the added power of VR you can definitely feel immersed i often found myself jumping to shoot something off in the distance or peeking around a corner with my gun at the ready. It's certainly relentless and it never gives up it offers a real challenge and I often found myself dying and jumping straight back in to try again thinking I'm going to get you. The movement seems to work well with zigzagging and bounding between platforms and with a double jump added to the mix for those slightly bigger areas. The AI of the baddies out to get you is really strong, And believe me they won't back down i often found myself up close with the enemies which makes for some awesome and enticing screen shots. Whether you choose to take them out with shots to their head or just waste them entirely is up to you, either way you will come out with that feeling of satisfaction for that kill. There are 2 health bars which you can view on your opposing hand to your gun these show your Armour and your health both of which can be replenished when you stumble across each one during your gameplay. There's also the placements of other items that you can use when you play and find as you progress to help you out. The sounds in game are very cool, and not just the odd pew pew here or there badguys blow up in spectacular fashion I feel the whole got to get to the end of this level totally satisfying with a great deal of challenge involved. Believe me I have tried the whole run gun and don't look back method which was extremely the wrong way to go. It's probably best to take them out to clear the way for you to progress. The levels have everything from moving platforms to shooting your way through doors to proceed and there are checkpoints along the way that can be used as starting points I would highly recommend trying out this game it's a retro shooter with a difference and a great offering into the VR sector. I have been following this game since I first heard about it and really believe the developer has put a lot of effort into making it as good a retro hit as it needs to be with the level of challenge. Definitely worth adding this to your wishlist folks one to keep an eye on. I would love to maybe see different levels of difficulty added ie easy medium or hard to cater for everyone and maybe a settings screen on the main menu with audio settings that can be adjusted etc. Happy gaming everyone From Taz Enjoying what VR brings to gaming.
Classic Metroidvania In Wonderful VR System Critical: The Race Against Time is a blast from the past. If you grew up playing the 8bit / 16bit genre of games, you will feel right at home in this amazing VR title. This game gives me strong Mega Man or Metroid vibes. From the hand canon, to the unforgivable platformer levels. This game will bring you back to the hard retro gaming days. Where you are going to die a lot, and restart the level until you have mastered it. The game's plot is, you are a cyborg trying to escape the facility we were made at. Twist, during the escape our internal program has been set to self destruct mode. We have 24hrs to battle our way through platform hell, and deactivate the self destruct program. You and your trusty arm canon, grenades, shields and melee weapons will combat your way through a platformer bullet hell. You will be doing everything from shooting multiple enemies well jumping from moving platform to moving platform. The game is fast and not easy. You will do multiple play throughs to perfect the level. The game has taken VR and Metroidvania and mixed them up into an immersive VR action adventure, that will keep you on your toes. I have not had so much fun playing this style of game in a long time. The VR experience will have you on edge and sweating as you try to make it just a little farther then last time. Remember to search for secret areas with goodies to help you on your way. The gameplay mechanics feel great. From jumping through the levels, to targeting the enemies, it all feels natural and fluid. The levels are well designed and challenging, you will not get through this game in a single go. Instead you are going to have to work at it over and over like the retro days, until you know the level like the back of your hand. If you enjoy shooters, platformers, Metroidvania style gameplay, this is a must have VR experience. You will relive those retro gaming days in an exciting VR world. So get your hand canon ready and dive into one of the coolest VR action platformers around. Watch my preview here, https://youtu.be/bgi949cyNRk
This has the spirit and soul of Mega Man brought to VR! Love it! The handcannon is so amazing to use in VR. The whole game harkens back to old school level design, except with the freedom and immersion of VR, which is an amazing combination. It's also difficult JUST enough so that you feel like you have to keep playing. One tip for those of you starting playing, what I learned is that strafing is your friend. Also when I found myself having the energy, I was dodging their shots using the roomscale, which of course is awesome. There are platforming elements too, which bring a Metroid Prime esque challenge to it. The levels creatively hide enemies at times, so you have to be on your toes. Definitely try out this game, it's solid and I can't wait to see how it improves even further. Multiplayer pls? :D
https://youtu.be/KW7uMM7XwWY watch the 5 min review or just read this For those that are old enough to of played Megaman you will remember how challenging it was. This game replicates that in a VR world. The game is crazy hard. I have streamed it for over 5 hours and only made it to the 1st boss once and i'm told there are a lot of levels after him so i'm either really rubbish at games or this really is a challenging. Its not a perfect game so don't expect a nice polished AAA title or Half life graphics because you wont get them but you know what some game don't need all that razzmatazz they just need to be playable and this is playable. With hidden areas to look out for where you can pick up grenades, swords health and shields you have a lot to to do its not just shooting and dodging bullets. Now as i mentioned the graphics are not amazing but i would say the music is. The Dev have done a good job of making catchy music for the levels and if you are like me your going to be spending a long time on each level. The dev is also really responsive to feedback and has already fixed some bugs i originally found and implemented some suggestions on how to improve the game so you can have a better experience in the game. So lets wrap up this review with the pros and cons and finally my over all score Pros Its challenging The music is good Its Value for money Cons There is no volume control and its snap turning Graphics are not the best Marks out of 10 i will give it a happy 7 Because its not perfect but its great fun to play.
This is the Megaman in VR we have been waiting for, complete with hard, but fair game play that will keep you on your toes. Death reloads fast which is nice as you will die a lot. It has so much NES era charm but in VR. Takes me back. The enemy explosions might be my favourite on VR so far. So satisfying to see that puff of flame and smoke go up after each enemies death. More games need to do this. There is a lot of platform jumping which I thought might make me motion sick, but it did not at all. Got that music from the first level stuck in my head now just like the how those 8 bit classics did to us growing up. This is a fun game that anyone into Megaman should consider.
Experienced on the Meta Quest 2
You can view my initial impressions review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/ul0z88ESIp4 So I could only play for an hour of this game because it was so bad I just couldn't continue playing. I didn't have any fun. The game looked ugly. The music was grating on my ears. The shooting mechanic with the slow projectile speed made your "gun" look like it was shooting ping pong balls. No reloads. Platforming was floaty & basic. The enemy AI was bad. The level design was almost as ugly as the visuals. I tried to come up with a list of positives & negatives, but I just honestly couldn't come up with any positives. The only thing I could come up with is that the game ran okay and I didn't experience any serious bugs. However, there was this annoying bug though where the shooting sound kept playing over on a loop. Game is running on the Unreal Engine. On my RTX 3080, I was getting mostly 90 fps. You do have full locomotion and snap turning available. You can play seated. This isn't the worst VR shooter I have ever played. However, I think it's worse than the average VR shooter and that's a pretty low bar. So, I just couldn't recommend this game at any price. I wouldn't even recommend you download it if it were free. This is the VR shooter game I've been waiting for. If you love old school platform shooters, then this one is for you. It's challenging yet addictive. This is not your average shooter game and it just might take you sometime, but you won't want to stop. The graphics remind me of the old school 2D platform shooters and the fact before hitting a checkpoint, you'll always go back to the beginning when you die. Or, fall off the platform.. haha. There are hidden rooms with med packs and weapons, so keep an eye out for those. You never know when you'll need something. It runs really smoothly, which impressed me. I didn't feel any motion sickness, which really makes me happy. It means I can keep going. I am a huge fan of indie games and shooter games. The more challenging, the better. This one definitely takes that on. I am having a lot fun with this one so far. I will be heading back in for more. I also checked out the Oculus App Lab version (Paid). Both run really well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1uDdHWNqjg
First off, let me say that I did receive this game for free for feedback on this game after I reached out to the developer. I was interested in this game because of how the community was buzzing with how much of a challenge this game is. THEY ARE RIGHT. This game gives you all the feels of nostalgia from the old school Mega Man era. If you are a fan of Mega Man in any capacity this game is for you. The challenge of completing this game is very satisfying. Not only does it have a great soundtrack but the game just constantly wants you to get better and the reward for doing so hits you in your feels. Everything about this game screams old school plat-former and gives you the rush that you need in virtual reality. Yes, i got the game for free but this is for sure a game worth paying for. Here is my video on youtube for the in game review. THIS IS A MUST BUY VR GAME! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r421d6JfgQc
This game is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard. Just like the old days, but a little harder, perhaps. And in VR! A great retro style, Mega Man/Metroid, type game. With my short experience, I'd say it's more in the style of Mega Man, though. If you want a challenge, like the old days, you will not regret your purchase. The price is right and even though it looks a bit rough, and AI may be a lot OP, as well as, a bit dumb, the game achieves what it intended on. I haven't cared much for platformers, since the NES days, but this game really puts me back in the mood. This is an excellent addition to any old school gamer's library. So, go ahead... Grab a copy. Any cheaper and it'd be free.
