AT A GLANCE

Game Name: Jolly Rover
Original Release: 2010-06-07
Genre Tags: Adventure, Point & Click
Estimated Playtime (Campaign): 4-6 hours
100% Achievements Playtime: 4-8 hours
DLC Required for 100% Achievements: N/A
Multiplayer Aspect: None
Replayability: Some
Recommended To: Achievement Hunters, Puzzle Story Lovers

REVIEW
Jolly Rover is a point & click, adventure game.
STORY
A young, inexperienced Dachshund named Gaius James Rover is sailing across the seas to deliver a cargo of a brew made of rum spoiled by tobacco, (called Jolly Rover) to governor Guy DeSilver residing on Groggy Island, a small backwater and haven for pirates. His adventures continue through mishaps, humor, and puzzles.
GAMEPLAY
The story is full of puns and humor which fits well to the genre. The game mechanics are your standard point and click controls. You will interact with items and backgrounds as well as watching dialogue in scenes to advance the story and complete the game.
PLAYTIME
The game itself is fairly easy for adventure games as there is more hand holding then there was back in classic adventure game days, (1990’s). Play time is ~4-6 hours to complete the story and ~4-8 hours to get all achievements. You may have to play again if you miss any of the pieces of eight or crackers, which is possible as the story is linear and you don’t return to scenes in each playthrough.
COMPLAINTS
There is nothing specific to complain about for this game.
REPLAYABILITY
There is some replayability to this game much like most adventure games. There could be additional ways to solve puzzles, interactions you missed, or just reliving the story again.
RECOMMENDATION
I recommend the game to anyone who loves classic 90’s adventure games or is an achievement hunter.

I can not recommend buying this at $10. It was pretty cute and not a bad point and click adventure, if you are into that sort of thing, but it wasn't super memorable.
Cool old school point and click adventure. Lighthearted story with decent puzzles and atmosphere. I enjoyed the game!
突然覺得Clara很可愛。
Cute and Fun adventure game. I have a terrible memory so the option to let the parrot do the knocking for me was a life saver. The in game hint system is really well done and gives you just enough to nudge you in the right direction. Which is good because sometimes the puzzles are less than logical. It is short so I would suggest getting it on sale. The VA is really good as well.
Very old school point and click obvious tie in with the monkey Island series. Shows why there is both die hard to the old way and why it had to modernise. It was cute and fun story but very annoying quite regularly due to having to understand the logic behind the puzzles.
A fun little point'n'click. Clearly heavily inspired by Monkey Island, but that's no bad thing. One annoying technical quirk is an improper aspect ratio if playing full-screen on a modern 16:9 monitor. So your options are playing in a 800x600 window, or messing with your display settings. Other than that it ran perfectly on a modern Windows 11 system. Seasoned adventure game players are likely to find the puzzles a touch easy. I finished the game in around 4 hours without using the hint system. Some of the puzzles were similar to those found in Monkey Island and, weirdly, Loom, so that probably helped me along. But I never found the puzzles to be unsatisfying or wholly unoriginal. The story is a little cookie-cutter, but there are a few fun twists and turns. The main character is very likeable, honestly a rarity in comedic point'n'clicks. Good art and voice-acting. Overall, well worth dropping a few quid on. 👍
I at first was hesitant to purchase this game cause according to Steam it has no voice acting and my voice acting is nonexistent thankfully it does have voice acting I am enjoying this game so far. Definitely reminds me of Monkey Island cause of the humor and the pirate theme also there are pieces of eight to find not sure if this was a real currency during this time period or just a Monkey Island inside joke. I will definitely be doing a full play-through in the future
https://youtu.be/U-hQ5FimXZA Trying very hard to be funny but missing the mark with the drag caused by puzzle design issues keep either side of the formula from landing.
