muy divertido, no he podido parar de jugarlo desde que lo he comprado, con ganas de jugar mas , algunos puzzles exigentes pero no imposibles, me encanta el arte
A puzzle with arcade elements. You control two ghost brothers Jin and Jan at the same time. Gameplay: https://youtu.be/YEjq6yFhPLw A great puzzle for fans of the genre. There are 45 levels and 9 achievements, no blood and no violence. The first levels are easy, then the game becomes difficult. This is a real challenge! You move two characters at the same time (the second character has inverted movements). The number of moves is limited. You need to take the ghost of the corresponding color with each character and go to the center of the field. The difficulty is that there is no way to cancel moves (there is no undo button), and some enemies react to the characters' movements in real time. You need to watch all the enemies and traps on the screen and act quickly (arcade element). (UPDATE, I got contact with the developer team, and they're going to try to fix the bugs I mentioned, as well as just removing the 100 Death achievement all together. While my complaints about the gameplay still stand, I feel like their quick response and genuine care to the game shouldn't go unnoticed) Jin & Jan is yet another example of why Steam needs a sideways thumb button; as -if you're reading this via Steam- you're probably already thinking “oh man, he HATES this game!!”; when the truth is I don't. I like Jin & Jan. I think the premise is pretty unique, the puzzle gameplay can be decent fun, and ghost brothers Jin and Jan are pretty cute characters. On the downside, the game is something of a mess; full of bugs, awkward level layouts, and overall just feels lackluster. Do you play puzzle games for the plot? If so, then sorry in advance. Jin & Jan's story is about as simple as it gets. Jin takes a selfie with the flash on and accidentally scares away his pet cat
(y'know, considering that Jin and Jan are ghosts, does that mean that the cat is dead as well??.......something to think about)
, who then runs into a portal leading to heck; and now the bros must go after him!!...that's it. like, that's literally the entire plot.
(I think you had to save the world from ending, too; but that barely gets mentioned at all, and almost feels like a running joke).
Nothing amazing, but it's all good; because you're here for the puzzles, man! Jin & Jan's main gameplay hook is probably the best thing about it: Jin (the white ghost) and Jan (the black ghost) are trapped in a maze on opposite sides. Using WASD controls, you move Jin around, avoiding traps, and getting him to the exit in one piece. BUT, on the other side, we've got Jan, who does the EXACT OPPOSITE of whatever pressed. Controlling two characters at the same time is pretty cool and leads to a lot of tricky scenarios, but unfortunately, the game doesn't follow the puzzle game mantra: easy to learn, difficult to master. Instead, the title just throws obstacle after obstacle at you . Get a notebook or something, because you might want to write these down. Early on, you'll face hoards of evil Jack-o'-lanterns that'll shoot arrows at you whenever you're in sight. There are also angry bats that move around in a pattern, killing you off in one hit. Some tombstones are actually traps, making you fall through the ground and die. oh, don't forget the angels, as they ALSO move in a pattern -like the bats- but turn-based, like you. There are two types of lasers: one that'll fire every three turns, and one that'll fire every five or so seconds automatically; but the lasers can't go through spike traps; which will pop up and down like clockwork every turn. Watch out for those crumbling platforms, too, as once they break, you can't go back. Those runes on the ground will switch Jin and Jan's places, more or less reversing the controls. Got all that? G o o d . Now try dealing with all of those at once, for like thirty levels. oh, whoops, forgot to mention that you also have a stamina bar to keep track of. Your ghost friends can only move about twenty spaces before they collapse from exhaustion, making it so that you'll have to move with pitch perfect precision if you want to beat the game. And like, this isn't about the final world or anything, this whole perfection mentality applies to like half the game; there's almost no room for error even in like the first ten levels. That's Jin & Jan's biggest problem: it's challenging, but it's not fun. It's less a battle of wits and more of a test of sheer perseverance, where you're basically just memorizing the right path for not one, but TWO characters, for forty five levels...... admittedly, that is a good amount for the price, though. GGs. For an indie game on Steam for less than five bucks, Jin & Jan's production values are competent, but nothing amazing. The 3D visuals are simple, but charming; with our little ghost buddies in particular looking pretty good, with their cute idle animations and expressions. None of the obstacles or enemy designs are anything special, but they still look nice and fit with their surroundings
(I do like how the head angel resembles Isaac a bit. that's sweet).
The 2D art, however, is what I'd like to call Kids Menu Style. It looks fine, but it's also just very very basic ; doing the bare minimum in terms of unique frames or poses
(also, Jin's “sad” picture still looks kinda happy not gonna lie).
Again, it's cute, but not nearly enough to be the main course. The dialogue shares the same Happy Meal approach; all sugar, no substance . There's only so many times you could have Jin say something totally random and silly and then have Jan respond back with “omg Jin! that was totally random and silly!! what a meaningful conversation! what a neat story!! ” without it getting as old as heck
(and like, I already said I wasn't playing for the story, but would it kill the writers to think of a different kind of joke? stop it. get some help)
. The music is fine, if not a bit generic (I do really like the Heaven theme, though); and that's all I have to say about that. And finally, how about we talk about some of those bugs? I legitimately think that the “Die 100 Times” achievement is impossible to get. First off, I've definitely died over a hundred times throughout my playthrough, but I still haven't gotten it. It's not “100 Deaths in a Single Session” (meaning, if you close the game, it resets), because I did that, too. And it's also not “100 Deaths in One Single Level”, because I also did that
(I intentionally did that in a vain attempt to get the achievement. it took like half an hour)
; so WHAT'S THE DEAL??? The game also crashed on me like four different times, all in different levels for seemingly no reason; and after one of those times, when I rebooted, all the menus switched to Spanish for whatever reason. Kinda odd, but hey, no es gran cosa. Whether you're thinking of buying it or if you're one of the people who created it
(I've had some game devs respond to my reviews a few times before. it's super cool!)
, I can't stress this enough: Jin & Jan is not a bad game. I really like the dual character controls, some of the levels were pretty satisfying, and Jin and Jan themselves are endearing. It's just, in the sea of other puzzle games available, even at the same price, I've played better ones; and definitely more polished ones. It's a double edged sword.
Gran juego.
A very fun and challenging game in equal measure. Complex puzzles and incredible aesthetics make Jin & Jan a real challenge. The characters are the cutest and most adorable I've seen in a long time. 10/10
A really fun and challenging puzzle game! It reminds me a lot of Handshakes (which is certainly a great game to compare yourself with). Give it a chance, you will not be disappointed!
Super polished art, music and sfx. Love it <3 The devs nailed the main mechanic. The level design is just on point, many levels are easy, so yo think you are god, but then you get a bit stuck in some of them, but without frustration. Too cheap for the fun that it offers!! 10/10
Didn’t expect it to be this addictive! The idea of moving two characters in opposite directions sounds weird at first, but once you get into it… you can’t stop. The level design is super smart — it keeps surprising you without feeling unfair. I keep saying “just one more level” and suddenly it’s midnight 😅 Definitely recommend if you like puzzle games with a twist!
Dinámico y divertido, pero no por ello fácil, tendrás que exprimir un poco tu cabecita si quieres avanzar. Altamente recomendable. Ofrece mucho mas de lo que cuesta.
