I want so badly to like this game, but there are 2 things stopping me. 1. Trying to see corners in the 3D view seems designed to destroy my eyes. The demo video KIND OF shows this, but it's much worse when you aren't moving constantly. You really have to squint to figure out where turns might be -- it's not even obvious when you're IN an intersection. And in practice you _can't_ move constantly (like in the demo) _because_ you can't see at a glance where the side passages are... The splotchy black and white patterns really end up being destructive. 2. The need to learn 30 random, unique spell names (and 6 races and 6 classes) AT ONCE every time I start a new game. You can't really "learn as you go" either since you need to sort them out well enough to decide where to assign each of 6 random, unique equippable abilities. In combination, it's essentially unplayable. I hate writing this, because the concept is fantastic and there was clearly a lot of love and attention to detail put into the balancing. And I hate bad reviews that trash a game over 1 or 2 pet peeve issues. Devs deserve better than that! But this really is -- these are impossible issues. I'm not refunding, because I want to support the direction this game is trying to go. But just be aware, there is massive potential for frustration with this game as-is.
Obviously, it's a roguelike. If you don't like roguelikes, and the idea that some playthroughs are doomed from the start and some playthroughs are relatively easy, then this game is not for you. On the other hand, the huge list of classes (and race/class combos) plus the assortment of skill licenses and gear means that runs don't feel identical. The apparent simplicity is deceptive. There's a surprising amount of strategy to be had in terms of mana management, skill assignment, and skill use. It's a nice change from more traditional examples of the genre.
Nearly a good game but misses the mark. The variety of races, classes and skill is neat but mired by too many things. First it is was too random. Some parties will be drastically stronger or weaker than others because of rng. and enemies in battle can spend turns using useless or nigh useless skills, or decided to randomly gank your healer and ko her when she was at full health. You might find the exit door almost immediatly or it could be in a completely ridiculous place and you could get worn down by encounters or have key members taken out by random crits. I actually won on my very first run that only took half an hour. I had 2 other runs end in failure and espeically salty since i had a part ready to ascend but when a key chara went down i couldnt revive her, and after searching for an hour I coulndt find the door. By the way you can't save and exit, not even a soft save like almost every other rogue game so... yeah. The final boss might be a difficult fight or he might waste his turn spamming the same debuffs instead of his hard hitting aoe. And also, the spells are written in gibberish (i grew up with a lot of these games, that convetion sucked back then, the walls all look exactly the same making it very easy to get lost, the random encounter rate is way too high and you'll often fight the same few enemies again and again and there's no run command. Some good ideas but annoying, gets boring after a while and really not worth the price
Take the dungeon crawling of Wizardry, the monsters and combat of Dragon Quest, and the magic of Persona, and you've got this quirky roguelike that's easy to pick up and hard to put down.
Unfortunately, yes, that is the whole game. If you're gonna strip away all the window dressing, you should have also stripped away the tedium.
The dungeons are dark, but the menus and battle screens are all pure white, so this game was a constant flashbang effect making it painful to play. Even so, I beat the game within 30 minutes without any semblance of challenge through very basic attacking, healing and strong attacks on big enemies. Even for a JRPG this is braindead stuff.
Got wiped three steps from the starting area because I did not realize that the main healing skill my cursed cleric had required more MP than they started with and the dragons we were fighting kept spamming an attack that made the party's faith in god drop so low that the healing skill I had given someone else was useless. Seriously though, it is a fantastic game and I lost a ton of time on the demo. I strongly suggest you look at the developer's page for a very detailed FAQ that will help immensely (assuming someone doesn't upload it to the Guide section first)
True to it's name, it's six random characters and a single floor dungeon. I'm not sure if it's scaled to your level or if I was incredibly lucky, but I ran across the exit and beat the game in 26 minutes. Not sure if that's speedrun worthy but y'know, there's always hope.
The title says it all! ^w^ Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's difficult. It's just a neat little wildcard game to enjoy in short bursts from time to time. Love the 8-bit style music too.
This is a tough easy to play hard to master retro style game with a no nonsense title. Like the title says you start the game with six random characters and you are in a dungeon and you gotta find your way out. There is no overall story, just you press new game and off you go. and just like i said before its pretty easy to pick up especially if you are into such retro looking titles that look like they came straight out of the game boy but if you are expecting an easy time just cause it looks like a gameboy game you will be disappointed as even though this game is easy to pick up actually getting far in the game will take some skill and also the sacrifice of your first born to the RNG gods because even though you start with 6 random characters your overall stats and skills will be different each play though and some runs you will do a little better then others, but if you don't let that bother you then you will enjoy this game.
