About
INTERSTATE 35 is an evocative narrative game from Radiant Array which follows a young woman returning to her hometown in Texas after a nuclear disaster. Through lush, poetic writing, we follow her literal journey through the post-apocalypse on a scavenging mission, and retrace her figurative journey to see how she got here and where she might head next.
Players click through text to both advance the current plot, and discover memories that they are able to salvage in their inventory as keepsakes. Each keepsake reveals a bit more about the main character and, and/or the post-apocalyptic world she now finds herself in. Which you decide to salvage, and which you discard is up to you.
Lush, poetic writing.
Interesting characters
Stunning, post-rock influenced soundtrack by Josie Brechner
Vivid, surreal illustrations of a Hopper-esque near-apocalypse by Porcelain Bones (Persephone Kavallines)
Moody, textured background art and UI design by Ariyeh Korva.
Keepsake System: Sift through memories of the past and decide for yourself what's worth keeping.
A melancholy, magical vision of an apocalyptic Texas, broken by nuclear disaster

Explore the past. Go home. Come back breathing.
"A near-apocalyptic road trip story, INTERSTATE 35 is a game about coming home when home is all wrong. I wanted to explore an apocalyptic disaster in a way that felt honest to the way real disasters happen. They're strange, isolated, and way too easily forgotten. My hope is that INTERSTATE 35 will make for a good piece of interactive archaeology-- a means of finding the future by sifting through the ruins of the past.
Inspired by titles like Kentucky Route Zero and We Know the Devil, I'm calling INTERSTATE 35 an experimental visual novel. But just as much as that, it's a work of interactive poetry, with a bit of memoir thrown in for good measure. It's very special to me, and I hope you find something to hold onto in INTERSTATE 35's slow apocalypse."

It feels like We Know The Devil meets Norco. A really good short visual novel with beautiful writing and evocative art, and the soundtrack is excellent.
Intense and colorful, with atmosphere built through stark hot strokes of paint. The 'mental inventory' is really just so cool. Reminds me of Disco Elysium with its metaphysical, evocative writing. A powerful way to spend an hour or two reading (but it's worth at least one replay!) I wasn't able to select some prompts with controller but mouse works fine and controller worked great otherwise. Hopefully fixed soon. Also, there's no text log, so be careful with speeding through too fast. Highly recommended, especially as someone who grew up in Texas.
As someone who's not super into VNs, I found this to be pretty interesting. The art style is really compelling, the poetic writing is fascinating, and the overall narrative is quite existential and interesting. A couple of neat surprises are in this story. Great experience.
I feel a lot of different emotions after finishing Interstate 35. I don't know if I want to replay it so soon, even though it was so short. But I did love it. I'm trying to imagine what memories of mine I would keep. I'm happy to have grown up in North Texas, even if it wasn't anywhere near where I was born. I always think of myself as lucky for getting the chance to experience life here and meet the people that I have met. I know these roads, I know the layouts of a few of the cities, and I know all of the same buildings that just keep repeating and repeating. I still forget how vast this place is, most of this state is still so unknowable to me. I never was in a religious family. I knew transgender and queer individuals who grew up in those kinds of houses; there was a certain pain in the air that followed them around. It was hard to say anything about it. I've been transitioning for almost 3 years now. I still love this place even if I sometimes desperately wish it could change. There's a lot of items and memories that I wish I could bury deep here, but there are plenty of things that I want to keep close, to remember all of this by. Thank you Julie.
Made me stare at the ceiling for a while
I grew up just south of Waco and went to college in the DFW area for four years so this game felt like I was coming home a little bit too. The prose was haunting and got stuck in my chest. I loved the way memories became scavenged pieces of the apocalypse. The art also was stunning. I loved playing this and I'm so glad I did
none of this is relatable and yet I found it extremely compelling. thank you.
Very evocatively written, dealing with questions of faith and community after the end, and the universal pain of coming home after a long absence, and all the memories that dredges up. Love the art and audio, really hope we get to see more from this dev team.
Two hours of haunting story, great musics and beautiful writing! Highly recommended.
