Ugh. I was enjoying the acting and the story for a while. Then the 5th suspect Natalie was introduced. An ai bot could do a better job acting and speaking like a human than whoever this actress is. This is a shame because the other 4 main suspects and the interrogators were all really good in their roles. I can barely listen to Natalie. The game would actually just be better if she was cut entirely.
Its pretty good but a little mid tier. The game is a little boring and the ending is a bit far fetched.
Worth the price and has a very twisted story to uncover. No real help, just you, a search bar and your own deductive reasoning. If you get stuck, there is a messanger man who provides a vid now and then. 7/10
This is VERY underrated. Even though it's a clone of the concept that Sam Barlow pioneered, this does it with solid writing and on far less pretentious and meandering ways as the original with far more gripping plotting from the outset Sam Barlows work is more art filmy and preachy where it can be a bit of an endurance to get thru a lot of filler and banality. This is more in line with a police procedural and straight forward If you're a Her Story fan, this is like a spiritual sequel in a way with multiple suspects but all more fleshed out. It's a pity the developer didnt get out more review copies to reviewers from the looks of things or more adventure/mystery lovers would be aware of the game
The videos don't play. Just a thumbnail and voices.
The game is similar to other FMV mysteries, where the key is to use the correct "search words" to learn more about the story. I did get stuck a couple of times, but fortunately, the game has a "hint feature" which can help keep you on track. Definitely recommend if you enjoy "Her Story".
The game itself is interesting. Kinda basic on the whole horror thriller and murder, but the worst part is the actors. The actors were so low budget i cringed watching them avoid eye contact and making it feel more real. i was hoping to pick apart facial expressions, fidgetting, and using the avoiding of eye contact to use as a precursor to determine keywords. However just about every actor is monotone and looking off to the left while reading the lines. It was absolutely terrible for that alone. Decent game but would be better if you had some puzzles or were able to break down evidence for clues. 70% of evidence had nothing to do with the anything. kinda lame to be honest. If you ever make a second game id hope you hire some actors who can read line without staring like robots at the cue cards and make it a bit more interactive other than trying to find key words. Maybe take some ideas from SIMULACRA 2 and make them to fit your own game. 3/10
Nice story, with some flaws such as some bad actors and some clunky words to research.. But worth the price and a play
This is initially a very enjoyable investigation game where you watch a large amount of FMV footage of various suspects being interrogated. You use keywords to search through a database to find more videos of each suspect. I was able to acquire about 80% of the footage without using the game's hint feature to unlock random videos. This part was great fun, as you'd discover a piece of evidence or clue that unlocked a whole host of new videos and sometimes additional suspects to interrogate. Unfortunately, once you're done following the main trains of logic, the game starts to sag a bit. I couldn't work out the remaining keywords to unlock the remaining 20% or so of videos so I ended up having to use the hint feature for almost every remaining video. As for the story contained in the game, the crime in question has hints of some mystical/witchcraft component. Unfortunately, these aren't pursued enough to provide a satisfying resolution. The acting for most of the FMV scenes is decent, with Lt. Colton, Ruth, and Heather providing the best performances. Natalie provides a pretty wooden performance and it feels that it's her first time seeing most of the lines. I would suggest for the developers that they provide the teleprompter or whatever option they used for that near the camera for any future games. Natalie and Caleb are fairly obviously staring off to the side at their lines for their entire scenes, rarely making any eye contact with the people ostensibly interrogating them. The ending resolution for the story is also a bit weak. It works, but it's not particularly exciting. If it did more with the occult themes in the story it might have been stronger. I'd still recommend the game, it's a good time, particularly during the first 2/3rds where you feel like you're truly an investigator.
