About
Welcome to the Middle World - a purgatory dimension where people's souls go to after they die. In the Middle World people have to complete tasks to atone for their wrongdoings or settle any unfinished matters and emotional traumas before their final destination can be decided.
As a newly arrived, Julius has to seek forgiveness of those whose lives he ruined in life. But with no memories of his Earth life, the task wouldn't be easy. He has to make friends and connections and find out more about this world - a world that exists in a permanent twilight time of the day, has a futuristic cyberpunk flare, and where it is impossible to die, while pain and suffering are all as real as they can be.
While uncovering our past and facing its challenges, we also must face the ever-unpredictable politics and dangers of the Middle World, with different groups contending for power and influence, covert alliances and secret deals, and parasitic creatures that feed on people's suffering. And perhaps in the midst of this chaos we can build a meaningful connection with someone, whose fate will intertwine with our own and seal our final path.

Welcome to the Middle World—a cyberpunk purgatory with neon vibes, eternal twilight, and more emotional baggage than your average drama series. Interim Crossroads drops you into this strange, pain-is-real-but-death-isn’t limbo, as Julius—a man with no memory but a major to-do list of guilt, redemption, and existential dilemmas. The game promises impactful choices, deep character relationships, and about 16 different endings, but does it deliver a meaningful afterlife experience? Let’s unpack it.
About This Game

Storyline
The story starts with a classic trope: amnesia. You’re Julius, freshly dead and utterly clueless, thrown into a world that feels both futuristic and fantastical. The Middle World has one main rule—if you’ve got unfinished business or unresolved trauma, you’re stuck here until you fix it. Julius’s “unfinished business”? Redeeming himself to those he wronged in life. The twist? He has no memory of who he was or the lives he impacted, which makes figuring out his path to forgiveness feel like solving a puzzle with half the pieces missing. What makes the story shine is the balance between personal and political stakes. On one hand, you’re diving into Julius’s memories, uncovering his mistakes, and trying to make amends. On the other, the Middle World is teeming with factions, backroom deals, and an impending power struggle involving its enigmatic ruler. These layers of conflict keep the narrative engaging without feeling overwhelming. And let’s not forget the characters. Arlyn, your grumpy-but-loyal guide, and Seiko, a fellow lost soul with her own past, are more than just sidekicks. Their interactions and backstories add depth to the world while giving you some much-needed emotional grounding. Plus, there are three potential romantic interests who bring their own drama and charm, letting you explore everything from bittersweet connections to outright “save the world together” vibes. The downside? The story is mostly linear, so while your choices influence relationships and endings, the overarching plot doesn’t stray too far from its intended path. It’s engaging, but sometimes it feels like the game is nudging you toward a conclusion rather than letting you truly carve your own. Still, with 16 endings, there’s enough variety to make replaying feel worthwhile.
Gameplay Mechanics
If you’ve played a visual novel before, you’ll feel right at home here. The core mechanic revolves around making choices that shape your relationships and three attributes: Virtue, Callosity, and Defiance. These traits don’t just dictate Julius’s personality; they determine which dialogue options, scenes, and endings are available. The good news? The game is transparent about which choice aligns with which attribute, so there’s no guesswork involved. The branching paths and attribute system are satisfying, but the gameplay isn’t as interactive as some might hope. It’s largely a text-driven experience, and while the choices are impactful, the lack of mini-games or additional gameplay layers can make it feel a bit static at times. That said, the emphasis on storytelling and character dynamics ensures you’re never bored.
Visuals & Audio
This is where the game flexes a bit. The fully-rendered 3D character models and backdrops give the Middle World a unique aesthetic—a mix of gritty cyberpunk and dreamy twilight hues. The visual style complements the narrative perfectly, making the world feel both ethereal and grounded. The character designs are expressive enough to convey subtle emotions, which adds weight to the dialogue-heavy gameplay. The soundtrack deserves a shoutout too. It’s moody, atmospheric, and fits the purgatorial setting like a glove. The only downside? The lack of animations can make some scenes feel a little static, especially during emotional climaxes where movement could amplify the impact.
Pros

A rich, emotionally charged storyline with themes of redemption and forgiveness.
High replayability thanks to 16 different endings and multiple branching paths.
Engaging character relationships and romances with real emotional stakes.
A visually distinct world that blends cyberpunk and fantasy effortlessly.

Cons

The lack of animations can make some scenes feel less dynamic.
The story’s linearity limits true freedom of choice.
While impactful, the sexual content is pretty tame and could benefit from a touch more depth.
Some endings feel abrupt, leaving you wanting more closure or setup for a sequel.

Conclusion
Interim Crossroads is like an emotional rollercoaster through a neon-lit purgatory. The storytelling is its biggest strength, tackling mature themes with nuance while giving you enough choices to feel like your decisions matter. The visuals are striking, the characters are memorable, and the 16 endings give it solid replay value. Sure, it has its shortcomings—static presentation and a somewhat linear plot—but for fans of visual novels and morally complex narratives, this one’s worth diving into. Just don’t expect it to spoon-feed you closure. You’ll have to earn your peace, just like Julius Rating: 8/10 Stuck in the middle?

[th]🔞Adult Content:[/th]

"Interim Crossroads" includes mature themes such as consensual sex, nudity, suicide, and other serious topics, making it a game designed for an adult audience. The sexual scenes are simple and without explicit focus on genitals, resembling the style of TV series where intimacy is implied rather than shown in graphic detail. Unlike TV series, however, the game does show nudity, including bare breasts, and offers interactive options where the player can choose to kiss, hug, or even touch a character’s breasts, depending on the available choices. While the game touches on serious and mature topics, it is not centered around sexual content. Instead, it focuses on delivering an interesting and engaging story about redemption, relationships, and personal growth, making it an appealing experience for those who value narrative depth with a touch of intimacy.

[th]📖Story and Depth:[/th]

Set in a world where souls must resolve past regrets before their final judgment, the story explores themes of redemption, forgiveness, and personal growth. Julius’s journey involves forging connections, uncovering his mysterious past, and facing the challenges of the politically charged Middle World. The game’s 16 endings and branching paths allow for a deeply personal and customizable experience. Relationships with three romantic interests—each with unique backstories—add further depth to the narrative.

[th]🏆Verdict:[/th]

"Interim Crossroads" is a well-crafted visual novel that emphasizes player choice and narrative depth. The game handles mature themes like violence, suicide, and emotional trauma with a focus on storytelling rather than sensationalism. While it includes some adult content, the sexual scenes are suggestive and avoid explicit detail, which may appeal to players looking for a more narrative-driven experience rather than one focused on erotica. One of the game’s strengths lies in its replayability, offering 16 endings and numerous choices that influence relationships and key attributes such as Virtue, Callosity, and Defiance. These mechanics add layers to Julius's journey through the purgatory-like Middle World, creating varied outcomes based on the player’s decisions. However, the lack of animations and relatively static presentation might feel underwhelming to some players, particularly those used to more dynamic visual novels. Overall, "Interim Crossroads" is an interesting option for fans of decision-driven visual novels who value complex narratives over visual effects. The affordable price and range of endings make it a worthwhile experience, even if the abrupt ending leaves players wanting more. I hope to see a sequel with deeper character development, additional intimate moments, and perhaps animated scenes to enhance immersion. For now, this is a solid recommendation for anyone who enjoys morally challenging stories and branching narratives.

[th]✅Good:[/th]

👍 Story-driven experience with mature themes and meaningful choices. 👍 High replayability with 16 endings and multiple branching paths. 👍 Affordable price point for the amount of content offered. 👍 Interesting mix of cyberpunk and fantasy elements that add atmosphere.

[th]🛠️Ways of Improvement:[/th]

👎 Lack of animations, which makes some scenes feel static. 👎 Sexual scenes could be expanded to include more detail and intimacy for better immersion. 👎 The ending feels rushed and leaves room for more development or a potential sequel. 👎 Additional depth to the setting and relationships would enhance the experience.

You are Julius, a man who finds himself in a strange place without knowing how he got there. He also can’t seem to remember anything about himself. Everything is soon revealed by those who rule this place: you’ve apparently died and now you’re stuck here until you complete your task. Each one has its own, and if you don’t do it, you might never leave. However, some seem to like this world and have no interest of leaving. Your task is to make peace with people who got killed because of your actions. But since you can’t remember anything, you don’t know who they are. Luckily, there’s a mysterious sphere that triggers parts of your memory. The closer you get to accomplishing your task, the more you’ll remember. This world, which looks like something out of a sci-fi, has its own rules. The most important is that you don’t have to sleep or eat, and you don’t have to worry about dying either. But you can still feel pain or experience pleasure. Fortunately, you won’t be alone. Your main two companions will be Arlyn, a guard and your guide, and Seiko, a woman who was part of your group that appeared in this strange world. You will move where the story takes you. It’s mostly linear, but you can make choices along the way that let you choose between several paths that lead to unique scenes and text. However, the overall story is pretty much set in stone. It involves the ruler and a plot to replace her. You’ll meet people from different sides, gangs, and creatures. The whole thing doesn’t take long, but it’s interesting and encourages several playthroughs. Sex is part of the story and the result of real feelings for one of the three girls. Despite the adult tag, all you’re going to see are exposed breasts and nothing else. But you get to choose how to respond. There are quite a lot of choices during the story, and you will usually have to pick between two or three options. Most choices affect three attributes that decide towards which ending you’re going for and what responses will be available to you. Options are clear so you don’t have to guess which one belongs to which attribute. You can be good and virtuous, strong but fair, or show defiance and care only about yourself. Points for each three are always visible, and if you don’t have enough points when a choice shows up, you simply won’t see it. The most important choices come at the end, so you can easily save and load to see most of the endings. Of course, you’ll have play at least twice, one for good and one for bad, to see everything.
An interesting game with a simple but interesting plot. I finished it in a couple of hours. I would like to see more bright pictures, most of the surroundings are dark.
