Played over five uniquely different arenas, Insane Insects - The Inception is an airborne Quake III on steroids, a classic old-school fragging game, speed, movement and skill based.

This looks like it is an obvious asset flip that has more bugs in the game design than the fighter selection screen. There is no way I would ever recommend this to anyone. Unless I really hate them. I mean HATE them. The "gameplay" is so basic it is nonexistent. I was hopeful when I read it was Quake like, then I realized that was complete BS because it is single player only, and Quake looked better. I gave it a full spin here with real gameplay footage!! https://youtu.be/crG19UU1AlQ
By far one of the worst games I have experienced in my 40 years of game playing. --- I'm going to attempt a pros and cons list... this won't be pretty: Pros: Steam allows refunds! I love you steam. Neutral: It's single player. Kind of disappointing for a first person arena shooter, but I can't hold it against them since it's honestly marked that way in the steam store. Cons: - The game has 1 level. There's buttons to change to others but apparently they were never put in - The game pretends to have 2 modes to play, but they are actually identical, just the same arena with you versus another insect - No music during the game, cheesy repetitive sound effects (and very few of them) - Gun variety? There seems to be 4 but they are all slight variations in the SAME model with just different lights, they function and sound all mostly the same. It actually took me a while to even notice that the guns were different occasionally. - The game description says it's all about flying; but the "flight" button just makes you sort of jump and hover for a couple seconds. It's more about "jumping sort of not really that far" than it is anything resembling flight. - This is a 1 versus 1 arena game.. that's it. There is literally NO CONTENT. - No in game feedback, the UI is void of anything that tells you what is going on. No kill counts, no death counts, no way to know what you are supposed to do or why. I mean sure the goal is simple "kill the enemy 10 times" but you don't even know how many kills you are currently on and no, counting for real isn't an option because: - You have no idea if your actual kills were done by you or the environment. Both you and the enemy will die randomly to things completely not under your control. Walk near a gas cloud? you dead, Bump into a building and clip through it? you die. Walking too fast and the game bugs out? you die. If the world killed the enemy while you were shooting at it, you won't know. - You will spend most of your time in this big empty arena (the only one...) waiting for the content to find you. Just one lonely bug walking over and shooting at you, over and over again. - the enemy hit boxes are wonky. empty clip after clip into one body part or another and there's no feedback telling you if you are hitting anything (no bullets, no hit effects). the enemy just occasionally falls over dead (but then it does that even if you aren't shooting at it sometimes so you really have no idea if your bullets are effecting it) - I could go on about how bad the content is, but there's so little of it, what's the point? - Beyond that it's technically put together poorly. Game has lots of bugs, lots of clipping issues, lots of what you would expect from say an amateur gaming developer that hasn't been properly trained. - Even the most fundamental game basics are broken here: you have to restart the game to change the sound effect levels; seriously? - Game breaking here: Switching the screen resolution is on a "cycle" you literally have to change and WAIT for the new resolution (and hope your system supports it) before you can "cycle" to the next one. If your monitor doesn't accept the next resolution in the list before you get to the one you want? Too bad, the game just goes black with no way to recover. Don't worry, it won't remember your resolution anyway so just force it closed. You get to cycle through every resolution every time you want to play the game. I haven't seen resolution settings this bad since DOS games were a thing back in the '90s, haven't we all learned how to make a settings menu that works yet? I gotta stop, there's about 1000 more things wrong with this game. At its very core I am finding it difficult to even call this a game. I have personally played student graduation projects with more content than this. At best this is a tech demo you might use to show the earliest stage concept of what your game is going to be about. But what you have here is a developer who made 1 big empty level and called it a full release product. And that 1 level was not even properly designed or tested. Epic Failure in every way. As a final note of just how poor the development quality is on this game? They couldn't even be bothered to name their launch file properly. If you open task manager while playing (which I had to do several times due to game breaking bugs that forced me to close the game) you will find the game is named: "Made with UDK"; that is literally the default name for a file that anyone will end up with simply from launching the Unreal Development Kit. This "game" could be made in a weekend for free by anyone simply by downloading UDK, uploading a few free models, putting in a basic menu screen and than launching the UDK movement demo to shuffle your models around. Still curious? Watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLKefFA-mgY That is literally 100% of the content in this game. You've missed nothing and there is nothing else to see or do. Big empty world, 1v1 against another bug using boring weapons. --- Bottom line: The game has a total of 3 minutes worth of content and none of it good. --- EDIT: In addition to the ridiculous comments from the developer under this review, he wanted to argue in the forums as well. His responses are just as bad as the game is: What a joke. --- While you are here, would you consider following my curator page? Want to read all of my reviews and not just the curated ones?
By far one of the worst games on Steam. I got this turkey in a bundle so can't refund on it otherwise I would have. My sincere condolencies to anyone unfortunate enough to have actually bought it. Essentially It's single player only FPS arena shooter made in UDK. 1v1 against another bug using the most pathetic weapons imaginable, in a woefully featureless, poorly constructed arena. The video isn't representative of the game. There are talented and dedicated coders out there who have made UKD sing like a nightingale that just discovered it had won the Euromillions. Badcast Games isn't one of them. It takes considerable effort to make a UDK game this crap. It does EVERYTHING wrong. Gameplay, graphics, sound.... f@cking EVERYTHING. To have the brass neck to upload this onto Gamejolt would take a skin as thick as a rhino. To ask ANY money for this garbage is an affront against gamers but to ask £6.99 is nothing short of a borderline crime against humanity. Shame on you Badcast Games. At what point did you look at yourself in the mirror and say, job well done, lets put this out for commercial sale ? This should now be the new meme for p@ss poor FPS games.... I've seen some crap on Steam recently but usually you can see the spark of a good idea or some vaguely redeeming feature despite the poor implementation but this is just annoyingly, willfully, f@cking terrible.
i tried it once and it started
Sadly when I found this years ago I was hopeful for a good game. I wanted something different and an Insect FPS definitely seemed different and interesting. The problem though is the information of how to play is barebones at best, so when you start up and get so far into the fight to find yourself suddenly dying it’s very off putting. It seems simple of aim and shoot like you might expect of an Arena FPS, but there’s “mechanics?” that make it far from simple but not in a good way. Then when the issues were raised to the devs, especially in detail by a user by the name of Kunovega who has left a review of their own, they proceeded to leave a “Tutorial”... in the discussions section as well as argue extensively with Kunovega. I bring them up for the mere fact that they really point out just how poorly the devs were dealing with the situation and the devs more or less spoke down to them and refused to acknowledge the feedback for what it was even when others agreed. Now in the almost four years this game has been out you would think there would have been some updates and improvements of some kind. But nope, the devs have abandoned it after they took offence to all feedback and essentially threw tantrums. I don’t think they made a single update at all the entire time, they just pretty much spoke as if this game was perfect and AAA quality. I have tried so hard to have so much patience with this game and give it a fair chance when I install and play it so I can try to progress to being able to fly, which even with their “Tutorial” I’m still confused on how it even functions if it does at all. But yes you have to reach a certain point in the game to access a particular “character” and apparently achieve 3 kills in a row (which they call some kind of trinity) to even get the ability to fly which they don’t even make clear in-game. Unless the publishers that now own it decide to organise some way for this game to be given a thorough overhaul and cleanup to have all that is necessary then don’t even bother. I can enjoy bad games and I have a variety of bad games just because sometimes there’s a gem among them but this is not one of them. You’d have more fun buying an arena game that was multiplayer only, setting up a second computer to logon so you have an “opponent” and just shooting them down repeatedly even though they cannot fight back, for a whole day than you’d have in 10 minutes playing this.
