This game is clearly made by someone who plays a lot of and loves the tower defense and strategy roguelite genres. There are so many little decisions that solve the "aw, man, I wish this thing was just a little different" I feel with lots of other roguelites. The biggest example is getting to draft your deck at the beginning of the run. I love this feature and hope more games start doing it. Little mechanics aside, you've got a solid classic-style tower defense game with maze building and tower upgrading. Sprinkle in some Pokemon and you've got the basic idea. Every aspect of the game from the moment to moment decisions to the big-picture progression feels satisfying. If you like Monster Train or classic-era tower defense games, this is already a must play! I'm excited to see what happens as development continues.
Great game! I've been wanting a good tower defense game for a while now, and feel like there haven't been many when I've searched. Granted - they're popping up absolutely everywhere now, but Imaginytes still stands out to me. Unlike a lot of tower defense games, you have full control over your maze which adds a lot of choices and a lot of "this isn't great right now, but if I can get away with it until I have everything in place it'll wreck". I've been playing during beta as well, and although I tend to easily gravitate towards poison and weak builds (the trait, it's not my build that's weak!) there's definitely a lot of other things to explore, especially when combined with the talent trees and the dreamguides. Dreamguides, especially, add a lot of replayability, encouraging different kinds of build. They feel almost like different characters in a game like Slay the Spire (although not quite as drastically different), and I look forward to seeing which others will be added in the future. Definitely recommended.
Anyone who loves mazing tower defense games and roguelike unlocks is sure to love this gem. There is a ton of content to unlock and try out. I've been having a blast trying all the different combinations of towers and spells. 2 thumbs up!
amazing game. actually challenging early on and not a cakewalk until an impossible boss, like many roguelikes Dev - please change the sound sample used for next wave, it's so annoying rn ! just something very subtle and mild instead of DA DA DING!!!!
It's weirdly addicting and theres so much stuff to unlock its easily probably a 100 hour+ game. Has a similar "end game" progression system like slay the spire where each run gets harder and harder. Suggestions: 1) needs a hard end game "level" progression counter so there's a visible achievable goal to stacking up the nightmare points (i think that's what theyre called? the things that increase difficulty). 2) needs an end-of-run stat screen. the mid game dps counter is sweet but a stat screen at the end would provide a bit of a sense of accomplishment, especially after smashing a run. 3) Because the different towers are so synergistic when they're of the same type (flora is op, for example) I wish there was a way to have more control over getting your starting towers of the same type. Currently having different towers of all different types starting off means youre not getting past the 1st section.
I love tower defense games, and what I expect from them is "Okay, I know the gist going in, so I should just be able to play and learn it's details as I go." That's what I feel is reasonable to expect. And man, this game DELIVERS! After the intro there were things I thought would play very well, and yet there's still some surprises as you go. Granted, I've not played it very long yet, but I have over 600 games, so if I come BACK to a game after buying it, then I know I like it. I keep coming back to Imaginytes because it's just plain FUN! It's plays well, the cards are gorgeous, the animations are lively, the difficulty ramp is spot on... I love it!
Really interesting blend of roguelite, tower defense, and deckbuilder. Thoroughly enjoyed the demo and look forward to exploring the game further.
Slay the Spire meets tower defense. The level system and card upgrades are almost copypaste from Slay the Spire (good thing, I think). Has an easy mode for mediocre gamers like me, but still provides a challenge. The more you play, the more resources you accumulate to upgrade your (permanent) talent tree. Plenty of artifacts to find which enhance your run, and many different units to use. Lots of "Oh ♥♥♥♥" moments when you think you have the level solved but the enemies start leaking through.
A very charming and fun tower defense game that deserves a place among the greats in the genre.
Great concept. Some of my fav genres mixed together. Really enjoying.
