Illusion of Being Chapter One is a short adult visual novel dealing with complex relationships and emotional issues. I have to warn people at the start, the content is relatively short, at only an hour or two for a complete play through, but it's a roller coaster of a journey. The main character is confronted by their wife of many years that she has been cheating on him. Is it better to try and work on the marriage, consider the interests and impact on how their child will feel, or see it as a chance of liberation, and to explore new relationships and sexual opportunities? In the real world there is no easy or simple answer to such a complex issue, and the developers try to present these complex points in a thought provoking way. One last thing to warn you about, the sexual content is skippable. Whether that's a plus or a minus for you is a different matter. Again, in the real world, having multiple affairs can make things complex and difficult, and going after everyone is not always practical or helpful. To reflect the complex issues, the number of save slots are low, there are only 10 available, and so given the myriad of choices and possibilities available, you won't be able to save before every minor choice. If you can keep the issues in mind and are looking for a mature story that makes you think, then this is a great one that I highly recommend. Well worth checking out and making you think.
SO DAMN SLOOOOOOOOOOW!
This is/was an ambitious concept. However, it appears to have been abandoned. Or the developer ran out of funds/resources. Can't recommend at this time.
a bad game, for those that has found out there partner is cheating on them. there is nothing else to add to the heart breaking experience. you find out, leave the house, go to work then after work you go get drunk. it's not a pleasant game to play at all.
"Illusion of Being (Episode 1)" (IoB) is a story-first AVN that sets up the MC's world coming apart. Strong writing, combined with great visual storytelling, creates a believable world and a protagonist we can empathize with. Choices matter, and have consequences. As an example, while this game has lewd scenes, I didn't see any in my first playthrough. This is fine, and exactly what I want to be possible in an AVN like this. While this episode is short, it does a great job at setting up the different characters who'll play a role in the MC's recovery (or further decline). These characters have their own baggage and history, with hopes and dreams for the future. Some might be going through hard times themselves. It's up to the player to decide how to treat them. Fitting music was chosen for each scene. It adds to the general atmosphere by not being intrusive in any way. On paper, this makes for a perfect game. But, its game engine doesn't have the features that players of this genre are used to. Weird keyboard shortcuts, limited save games, inconsistent text skipping, no scroll-back... It makes the game a highly opinionated cinematic experience, which isn't for everyone. Personally, I fell in love with this game when I noticed how certain words were specifically picked to make me think about what the characters were saying and doing. Words have meaning and connotations. Why is this person using that word? Why are they saying this, and what is their goal? An example: Could it be that the well-meaning friend has an alcohol problem herself? Is she encouraging the MC to drink because she needs a partner-in-crime? Or is it more nefarious, does she want him to slip up, to influence him to see things her way?

Socials Interested in discussing AVN?
