I played IguaRPG when it was released on itch.io. It is an incredible experience of combining metroidvania and RPG skills with linearity and accessibility. I think this game is one of the hidden gems and should be appreciated more.

First off, the art and animations are GORGEOUS. I love this style! Second, the game just feels really good to play. Difficult boss fights aside, the combat's really cool, and the key stages (+ collecting the keys!) were a great highlight. Only thing I can mention is that I never really used duck to guard unless in very very specific cases, even with an upgrade to my guard, but that might just be because i'm not much for strategy :P
IguaRPG is VERY lo-fi, stripping down action-RPG concepts to their absolute basics (overworld maps are a few screens, dungeons are three mini-challenges). This is what makes it excellent: it's a short experience (reminiscent of Ys 1, which has similar combat) that is still very challenging and demanding. Anyone sick of grinding for EXP and coins should play this game
"IguaRPG" is a short and great little 2D-action-adventure with light RPG elements, where you play an iguana tasked to find an ancient weapon to fend off otherworldy invaders. The premise is simple and a little silly (the ending is really bonkers) but earnest and immersive at the same time. Gameplaywise you walk around, converse with NPCs, buy consumables or stat-raising items at the bar, hop and charge on things until they pop and find keys to unlock blessings that open up the map further. The worldbuiling is very unique and retro, the soundtrack is weird, funky and really good. The character creator is also quite adorable! It is sadly quite short, but densely packed. But don't be fooled by the cute and charming presentation: The game is not easy, for enemies in the later areas pack a punch and the boss patterns are quite tight! Give it a try! It's solo-dev indie game goodness with a vision!
Two words to sum up the gameplay: Simple and Intuitive. Everything simply makes sense, the puzzles, the enemies, the patterns. You just need some patience and you can pull on through. If you try to rush through the game or get impatient, expect to fail a few times at some of the bosses and challenges. I've only played through 47% of the game, and I'd say it is worth $5 for a sweet charming game. Especially if you want your kids to try something harder, but not too hard. Also the iguana customizer is pretty fun to use. You can even use it to modify the size of your hitbox (for better or for worse).

Oh my god, this is the smuggest clown I have ever had the pleasure of shredding to pieces. What an awful, smug, oversized honkface. You get to kill it. Buy this game and kill this smug clown with me. I'm playing this again just to kill more of these smug clowns. edit: there's a smugger clown
