<| Overview |>
Hyper Shapes is a frenetic Boss Rush experience, where you get to face a variety of Bosses, all of which have their unique quirk/mechanic that differenciates them from one another. To face off against the dangers of the game, your character is accompanied by its trusty blue ball, which acts as a friendly projectile. Said projectile can be thrown when you get close enough to it, making you able to damage enemies and destroy certain enemy projectiles. If you like Flat Heroes and/or the combat of Titan Souls, I would recommend trying this game, as it gets a lot of its inspiration and ideas from those two games. Before going into what I liked and disliked, I would like to mention that Hyper Shapes is not the hardest Bullet Hell/Boss Rush you will find, but it can prove to be quite challenging at some specific points -I will go into more detail about this in the "What I disliked" section-. Take it slow, rest when you need to, and enjoy the ride!
<| What I liked |>

Game feel: Hyper Shapes' game feel is one of its best parts. The movement is snappy, fluid and comfortable; moving around, dashing and dodging feels highly responsive. Firing your projectile is easy to do, and you can manouver and aim it towards the desired direction with ease. The death animations and effects are fast, making sure that you don't lose focus and maintain the flow even if you die.
Color code: The game features a color code that you learn progressively as you advance through the Bosses. This color code is something that I find interesting, and that gripped my attention. Each and every color that you can see in the game represents something/some mechanic/purpose.
Boss variety: All the Bosses in Hyper Shapes are different. None of them share not even one attack pattern, making each fight memorable, refreshing, different and interesting, since the game is always surprising you with new things.

<| What I disliked |>

Difficulty curve: The game has a very well defined difficulty curve, but there are a few noticeable spikes here and there, which can prove to be quite challenging for some players. The majority of the game is well balanced, increasing the difficulty as the player progresses through the various Bosses, but, I felt that there were two -maybe three- spikes in difficulty. From one boss to another, either the fight was substantially harder, or it was much longer than the previous one, making the game experience a bit more tedious due to the lack of checkpoints.
Price: In my opinion, the price for Hyper Shapes is a bit expensive for what the game offers. It is clearly a small project with a very clear scope, that aims to offer a polished experience with a reduced amount of content, but making sure that it is of high quality. Even when taking this into account, the price still is a bit too high for me, but maybe not for you!
Mouse & Keyboard control: Unfortunately, playing Hyper Shapes with or without controller are two completely different worlds. If you have the opportunity, play the game with a controller, it feels much smoother and fluid. The game was clearly designed to be played with a controller. Even though using a Mouse & Keyboard is possible, and playable, the experience is much worse compared to what using a controller offers. The movement feels slightly slippery, and the Dash sometimes doesn't work as intended.

<| Conclusion |>
Hyper Shapes is a short but charming game. It has a very characteristic art-style, with a lot of effort put into the game's animations, effects and transitions. Although some bugs can be found here an there, the game feels polished. It is comfortable to play, presents a substantial challenge for the players and is a pretty solid experience. If you enjoy Boss Rushes, Bullet Hells, Minimalistic graphics, and don't mind spending about 5€/5$ for around 2 - 3 hours of gameplay -without taking into account completing all Steam Achievements, which could extend the play time during one or two more hours-, then Hyper Shapes is for you!
I love the concept of this game. This low graphic high mechanic boss rush. However the controls are clunky and there are not options at all.
I was expecting it to be like Just Shapes and Beats, but no, the controls are buggy and gameplay isn't even fun. It's just dodging and using left click to launch a ball, that's all. It's missing music.
At the beginning of the game, I am greeted by the inscription: It is better to use the controller. But, as always, I ignored this information and in vain. I must say right away that it is very difficult to play without a controller. I would like to mention a couple of points: 1. The game encouraged and amused me. Thanks to the developers for this. 2. You don't need a powerful computer to play. It seems to me that you can even run this game on a calculator. 3. The game is in a very simple setting, but has very interesting levels that I had to try to pass more than a dozen times. I definitely recommend this game to anyone who wants to test their controller skills and reaction. It's really fun! Thanks again to the developers! Good luck to everyone in passing the triangle :)
Decent concept, absolutely horrendous controls (especially on pc, I know from experience it would not be hard at all to make the ball aim towards the mouse)
Fun game

Hyper Shapes is a boss rush based on simple form graphics, defeat all 10 boss as a square and you’re ball weapon. Graphics (6,5 / 10) : The graphics are basic, based on simple form, but work well and help to fast comprehension boss patern. Gameplay (8 / 10) : The gameplay is great, but also pretty hard, because of “ 1 hit = you die “ You’re square character have a weapon ball that you have to use and aim for boss weakness. Each boss are pretty short (around 1-2 min long), and each boss have his own patern, a pure die and retry when you have to know the boss patern for beat it. 10 differents boss, and a couple of challenge for some boss available for additionnal steam achievements. The game is also better on a controller (gamepad), but not required. Price (6 / 10) : The game cost 5 euros, 10 differents boss and some optionnal challenge for steam achievements. The game take around 2-3 hours for complexion. The price is ok but a little too high for the current content in my opinion. Story/Music/Optimization (5 / 10) : No story, and almost no text in the game. The music is minimalist, but ok, the music fill well the gameplay, with sound indication for some boss attack. Don’t have any freeze or fps drop (played on a i5, 2Go VRAM and 8Go RAM), can run on pretty much computer imo. Lack of some option in the game (no resolution / graphics option) Final Note (6.4 / 10) : Hyper Shapes is a short boss rush based on really simple gameplay and graphics, but efficient gameplay with great control and good boss patern. Recommended is you like die and retry game. + : - Great gameplay with good boss patern - Each boss have his own patern. - Simple but efficient graphics, help for fast comprehension of boss attack. - : - Around 2-3 hours for completing the game (10 differents boss and some optionnal challenge) - Lack of some option (no resolution / graphics option)
