The visuals here are one of the most beautiful vistas my eyes ever witnessed. Combat design is superb and a melancholic vibe. Just experience this gem and you will thank me later :)
A short fun little game that takes anywhere from 3-5 hours to beat casually. I first played it years ago when i was much younger, the visuals amazed me and the difficulty was very rough at the time. As i've grown older, I've grown to expect more from my games. This is definitely worth $5, but anything more and I'd have to disagree. The combat can't decide if it wants to punish you for being aggressive or defensive, and ends up in some awkward middle ground. The boss fights were disappointing: The bird gave me trouble, the frog never even hit me, the samurai was annoying, and the final boss was barely a challenge. Maybe im too used to hollow knight, where difficulty and combat were the main focus. HLD is a artsy game, a story about disease, the combat is secondary. Overall im mixed, I doubt I'll look back on this as some kind of gold standard, and some sections and decisions really pissed me off. The high points never pushed past my expectations.

Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 4.43/day in the week to Jul 30 → 3.29/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,515 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

If you're looking for something short to play, either if you don't have the free time or just don't feel like committing the hours, this game is perfect. Took me just over 10 hours to beat the game, and I was taking a relatively leisurely pace through it and actively looking for secrets where possible - which, don't get me wrong, there are many of. There's enough secrets and extra content in this game for a further 10-15 hours past that 10 hour mark, but you can absolutely be satisfied after the 10 hours mark and drop the game with the ending you get. As for the gameplay, every aspect of this game is really smooth and polished, with a nice mix of action, exploration and platforming and very simple to understand yet difficult to master combat with a satisfying sense of progression, where old abilities remain useful but new ones continue to be added to expand your capabilities. The game is by no means too hard or punishing, it's in a good spot to be friendly to casual players, yet still a relatively challenging experience even for people which consider themselves good at video games (like me), as there is quite a learning curve, especially at first. The movement of this game specifically is top notch, and the room for skill expression and cool stuff you can do in the combat is another strong suit (chaining dashes is very fun.) The atmosphere of Hyper Light Drifter is incredibly well executed. The game can be a bit confusing at first, and it's a very cryptic game overall about its lore, world and ending. The lack of dialogue is certainly a unique choice, forcing you to think deeper about things rather than being handed information, but personally it allowed me to really connect with the world and make my own interpretation of the story and worldbuilding, which is what they wanted I'd imagine. The game is great at fostering a sense of curiosity, and making you think about the world around you. Avoiding any spoilers for the game's ending, I can say that it's definitely one which is open to interpretation (as the game is as a whole.) It's not immediately obvious what exactly just happened, but nonetheless the ending is one which left me intrigued, and over time you can come to terms with it and make your own conclusions. Overall though, the atmosphere and worldbuilding is one of this game's biggest strengths, with every area being richly atmospheric and packed with set pieces to gaze at in curiosity, aided by the minimalist soundtrack. Overall, my only complaint about Hyper Light Drifter is that it isn't longer, since after the ten hours was up I could only wish there was more content to be enjoyed. Having the world I was just coming to understand abandon me so quickly was quite saddening to be honest. Those 10 hours were a great experience nonetheless, and this game is absolutely a must-play for people who like indie games. I'd especially recommend this to those of us who may not have the time on our hands to play games with hundreds of hours of content like Hollow Knight, since it's an amazingly self-contained yet short game which you could easily fit in even if you have a busy life - or alternatively if you don't, it's a game you can finish in a mere few days, yet a great experience which'll stick with you. Nonetheless it can't be ignored that the small size of this game makes it not something you can really get stuck into and committed to for very long, which is a shame since the world is so rich. Great game, 8/10. Oh also, play it on controller, it's a much better experience than keyboard and mouse.
it was fun wish it was longer... prettyyyyyyyyy
Got introduced into this game through a dead cells collab, visually its a great game, with a great soundtrack too. its focused a lot of exploring and treying new things. honestly it doesnt feel like it was made 10 years ago but it still hold up well
