This plays like a story/novel where you make guesses to unlock parts of the story. It's a bit like "Her Story" in that aspect. The story creates a "dark scifi" world, and does a good job of helping you understand the characters inside that world. The gameplay is to move a character through a pixel environment and items encountered share story elements, and to search keywords to reveal corrupted data chunks of the story. I enjoyed it. Ii used a guide to get the final 2 of 80 corrupted data files that I could not guess.
How is this not plagiarism of Never Let Me Go? I don't care if the game mentions the book itself or not, this is shameful. Do yourself a favor, read the book instead. It's infinitely better.
I can only recommend this to gamers that are up for reading a lot of text and 8 bit art house-esque visuals. Take it at face value when the game says it "is an interactive text puzzle game." The beauty or meaning you take from it all is up to you. I personally found the written pieces to not form a very meaningful or cohesive story proportional to how long the writing was in total, and I don't believe the average gamer would either, hence me not recommending it. Your interface is a classic computer with different apps. One app allows for exploration of a a linear map for exploration. Find objects that give you pictures with text stories of sorts, and find areas to gain access to. Certain areas with doors or gates can only be accessed by text chatting with the various Hymer terminals throughout the map. Gaining access to more areas requires unlocking more of the 80 text entries that Hymer actually has stored. This can be done only by using a text search app where you type individual keywords, and search results show up to four of the earliest matching text entries. There are other optional apps that can be found in the game. The personification of Hymer was more meaningful than the end of the text story, even with all 80 text entries unlocked.
