🎮 Hymer 2000 🎮
How is this not plagiarism of Never Let Me Go? I don't care if the game mentions the book itself or not, this is shameful. Do yourself a favor, read the book instead. It's infinitely better.
When I was younger I read a lot of dystopian books, now that we are living in a dystopian world I don't do it anymore. Because of that experience I guessed quite early what the story will be. There was a twist at the end on Bart's storyline though.
The gameplay
The game took me around 4h30 for a 100% completion. The game is in two parts. One is about searching for keywords to unlock the exchanges that the computer knew about, those are written like messages. The second part is a walk around the map collecting photos of "faces" that will help you get the human side of the story, those are written like a book. Combined together you get the full story. You also have access to little games and experiences that Hymer shows you, probably to contribute to the philosophical and artistic vibe the game wants to have as it seems partly linked to a Chinese artwork. Opening those is mandatory for achievement completion.
In conclusion
I think the game is well priced, the story is good even though we still have questions at the end about why it happens and what is the selection process (I am trying to be spoiler free here). I disagree with comments that say that we don't have enough infos and background on the others, if you read all the "faces" you know all there is to know. The achievements are easy to get. The music is quite discret and goes well with the game. But yeah prepare your tissue box because it is more on the sad part.
