About

Hunt the Night is a retro-style action-RPG that blends fast, skillful combat with dark fantasy lore. Play as Vesper, a member of the Stalkers, and traverse the ruined world of Medhram on a mission to save humanity from a deadly cycle of annihilation. Endure nightmarish overworlds, slash through horrific dungeons, face brutal bosses, and wield an arsenal of powers in a relentless struggle against the Night itself.
In the 9th Age, humanity is trapped in a vicious cycle on the verge of extinction. The day is ruled by humans, while the Night brings annihilation by horrid creatures. A group of humans called ‘The Stalkers’ once wielded power to hold back the horrors, but their sacrifice only delayed the inevitable.
Now, as the Night starts devouring every single glint of light, Vesper, a Stalker by right and daughter of a traitor, will travel a dying land trying to save the last embers of humanity. She hunts in a race against destiny, as the shadows lengthen both in the world and in her mind.

Dash through enemies while you unleash your combos, use your weapons or destroy them with your dark powers. You can switch between melee and ranged attack in quick succession: slashing enemies with your sword and then dashing away to use your ranged weapons, avoiding enemy attacks.

Endure the ultimate challenge as you fight the ancient horrors of the Night that have been annihilating humanity over and over in intense boss battles. Learn their weak points, attack patterns and survive through the different combat phases as the battle gets more challenging and extreme.

Create your own build that will adapt not only to your prefered gameplay but also to particular bosses. Customize the upgrades of your arsenal and use the equipment that best suits your gameplay: Critical Damage, Life Steal, Poison, Close Combat, Firepower and more. Collect Sanguine vials, Crow Feathers, Moonstones and Noctilium to increase your stats and get ready to face the Night.

Explore Medhram in a combination of action-adventure and dark fantasy lore. Survive huge dungeons full of traps, enemies, puzzles and challenges. Discover all kinds of locations, from ancient cathedrals and libraries of knowledge to lost kingdoms and devastated floating cities.

Accept a hunt at ‘Crow’s Nest’ and track down the dark beast, find where it hides and hunt the most powerful creatures of the Night. After every completed hunt you will get rewards that will increase your health and dark energy bar.

Meet new characters and discover their tragic past and stories in a world that is on the brink of the abyss.

Immersive and adapted music to every moment, boss and location, with the collaboration of Hiroki Kikuta, Secret of Mana composer.
Hunt the Night Review

Introduction
Hunt the Night is a gothic, top-down action-adventure game developed by Moonlight Games. Inspired by Bloodborne and classic The Legend of Zelda, it drops you into a dark, cursed world overrun by monstrous horrors. You play as Vesper, a Stalker trying to reclaim humanity’s place in a realm swallowed by eternal night. I went into the game looking for something with a bit of Souls-like challenge mixed with Zelda-style gameplay, and overall, I enjoyed it for what it was.

Gameplay
At its core, Hunt the Night offers challenging, dodge-based combat with both melee and ranged options. It encourages pattern recognition, quick reactions, and a bit of resource management. Boss fights are definitely a highlight, with some creative and memorable encounters. That said, I wouldn’t call the game brutally hard — a few bosses took some trial-and-error to learn, but nothing felt impossible. In my opinion, it’s challenging but not at true Dark Souls levels. The game is also fairly short; you can beat it in under 10 hours if you keep moving. Hunt the Night blends in some Metroidvania elements, too, where you unlock abilities to backtrack and explore previously blocked areas, finding more loot and customizing your weapons. That structure is familiar and works well, though level layouts do get repetitive in places. I ran into a few issues with the combat — dodging felt sluggish at times, and certain boss mechanics threw completely new patterns at you with no warning, punishing you with instant deaths if you didn’t react perfectly. One boss near the end especially frustrated me with an unexpected “gimmick” mechanic that killed you outright if you missed it, forcing repeat attempts. That kind of design drives me up the wall.

Art
The pixel art is the game’s standout feature. It captures a gothic horror atmosphere with great style, from ruined cathedrals to twisted monster lairs. Enemy and boss designs are creative and memorable, and the animations are smooth, giving the whole world a haunted, retro feel reminiscent of SNES or early PlayStation games.

Sound
The soundtrack pairs nicely with the game’s aesthetic, delivering haunting melodies and tense boss music that set the tone perfectly. Sound effects, like sword swings and monster roars, are sharp and satisfying. The only downside was the text beeping during dialogue scenes — it got on my nerves quickly and made me skip a lot of the story, which otherwise is a pretty typical “evil takes over the world” tale.

Overall
Hunt the Night is a stylish, atmospheric, and ambitious indie action-RPG with clear passion behind it. If you’re into gothic horror, pixel art, and short, moderately challenging experiences, I’d recommend it. The combat, while mostly responsive, has some frustrating hitbox and design quirks, and the story is nothing groundbreaking. Once I finished it, I didn’t feel like diving into New Game Plus, but I still appreciated the experience for what it was. If you’re looking for a niche action RPG with a classic feel, solid bosses, and some Metroidvania elements, Hunt the Night is worth checking out.
Hunt the Night is a pretty good Dungeon Crawler, Souls like game and it's an interesting mashup of bloodborne and Legend of Zelda, but let's talk about the story. In a world were darkness has enveloped it, trapping humanity in a vicious cycle on the verge of extinction, but it was not always like that long ago the world was surrounded by perpetual light keeping the horrors of the dark at bay, but to maintain that protection a sacrifice had to be made. Unfortunately the previous sacrifice refused, betraying his order and his sacred duty leaving his daughter Vesper to pick up the sword and restore the light, but is she really helping the world is it not unnatural for the daytime to be perpetual, but who really knows, but that would be for Vesper to figure out as she will be forced to fight the undead and demonic forces of the night in order to gather the pieces for the ritual or this terrible night will never end. Okay then it’s time for the likes, the gameplay is pretty good it's a mixture of a Souls like game and a top-down Legend of Zelda gameplay style, you go around fighting enemies and bosses learning their attack moves in order to defeat them, while also solving some light puzzles and doing exploration in order to find items, game’s also hard but fair with some bunk in it, but you just need to be patient and learn attack patterns, also buying and finding upgrades for your character and building them up to fit your playstyle, and like a good Souls like you can buy or find different weapons, items and special attack moves in order to progress through the game. Another thing I really like about the gameplay is that in other traditional soul-like games when you die you lose all the experience/money you got, but here playing on normal mode you can actually keep that experience even after you die which is a pretty good idea as you will die a lot in the game. The weapons were fine they're pretty simple, swords, great swords and spears that sort of thing, but some weapons can be more effective than others again it's just requires trial and error and figuring out which kind of weapon you're good with. The story is good you find out a lot about the world via character interaction and notes, it does have some bloodborne/lovecraftian theming with these otherworldly monsters, body horror, humanity smallness and fighting the inevitable but also fighting against the darkness, nothing I haven't really seen before but still was good. The enemy and bosses are all really good each one has their own unique looks that's definitely doesn't feel out of place in a Souls like game, again like bloodborne. Probably my favorite bosses has to be Krevian because it definitely has great set up for that boss and the mother boss as it definitely feels lovecraftian. The pixel graphic art style is really good with very good uses of colors, designs and scenery that really makes each area stand out, it definitely feels like an old school top down Zelda game. The levels are very good each level is unique with interesting designs that's just pretty breathtaking to look at and explore, I definitely can see the bloodborne inspiration in it. The music is very good; each track fits this kind of game very well. The notes are good like any notes these does a good job setting up the world and how it got like this, definitely feels like Dark Souls mixed with bloodborne with its emphasis on the sun and otherworldly lovecraftian horrors. The atmosphere is very good definitely spooky in some places particularly Ashdown Manor. Now this game isn't technically a horror game it's dark fantasy, but definitely has horror elements the best would be the level Ashdown manner it can be pretty spooky with some effective jumpscares. Okay then it’s time for the dislikes, now there is some bunk in the gameplay like this one particular enemy that’s invisible if you're not paying close attention it can jump at you which can be quite annoying particularly starting with your small health bar, some of the enemy placements can also feel cheap and you have to be quick in your dodging, particularly when you're at a low level, it can be a bit of a slog to get through until you're familiarize yourself with the mechanics. Lastly some of the bosses have a one hit kill attacks which is very annoying. Now that I told you this Hunt the Night is a pretty good Dungeon Crawler, Souls like game and it's an interesting mashup of bloodborne and Legend of Zelda, it has pretty good gameplay, a good story and very good levels, so I definitely recommend this game especially to those who are souls like fans or Legend of Zelda fans as this is a good matchup between the two despite some of its flaws.
Game has an error and crashes on startup, sayings it's being closed in an unnusual way. Well, my C++ libraries are up to date as Win 10 can be, and work fine on everything else. After a little testing and checking doesn't seem like I'm going to get this game running for more than a few seconds each startup so it's simply unplayable. And because I took a bit over two week so to get around to trying to play it (Wuchang fallen feathers had priority from that rough sale period), I can't even refund it now.
Jogo muito bom é com um preço bem justo pra quem curte um metroidvania com uma pegada meio blodborne vai gostar com certeza.

Think of a Link (Zelda) game and mix Bloodborne (thought I've never played that game). Honestly, watch a review. If the gameplay and aesthetic interest you, you're going to love the game. I think the character sprites and text isn't up to par with other pixel games, but the controls and movement are buttery smooth. No parries in this game. All dodging and you got stamina fuel for days. ~~After completing the game~~ It seems like this game is unfinished. There a lot of stuff that seems like should be been in the game that either isn't or just ignored. Most NPCs don't update their dialogue after story events. Your alter ego seemed to be building to be something that ultimately never happens. There are multiple bosses with mechanics that were never balanced to regular play or throw in mechanics without warning the player never ever using them again. (The Mother fight and fight with the doppleganger). The made the default gun worthless on a few fights and there isn't much reason to use the crossbow. You get mulitiple weapons but you really only have 3 versions of the 5 weapons (though lowkey only 4 weapons). You have a sword, dual knives, basically gauntlets (different AoE dual knives), greatsword, and spear (slow as greatsword with slightly better than sword damage). The versions of the weapons you get are the basic weapon, the basic weapon with 10% special damage that isn't really explained, or a better version of the basic weapon. You get useless grenades and the skills are so rare that I didn't find my 2nd one until halfway to beating the game. I also feel like the graphics could have used a little polishing. But other than that, I think there were some plot lines that weren't closed well enough and the ending was rushed. Did I enjoy my time? Overall, yes. Would I recommend this for full price. Not a chance. Discount? Not if you haven't played Solteria or Drova. Drova is the best comparison to this game and is better in every way. It does storytelling, multiple endings, multiple weapons, graphics, combat... literally everything better than this game. And,. apparently the devs didn't honor their kickstarter goals by not releasing to console. If I had known this, I woudn't have bought the game.I I feel bad for them. This is overall a nice game. Probably needed a few more houndred thousand bucks to cook. Thumbing it up in the end. But it's a middle thumb all the way.
Hunt the Night is a short, low budget, metroidvania. It does look good, color and lighting wise, but its art direction is also what makes the game sometimes hard to play. Elevation, paths, even our own "magic gauge" are hard to tell precisely because of the prevalent darkness and purple color. Against one of the last bosses, i had to watch a guide to understand how to survive a massive death cloud, because i couldn't see some safe areas. Our possible playstyles revolve around a selection of 6 different weapons type (among half of them play the same) with two different status effects : poison or life leech. There are some magics, but as long as you have the life steal spell, every combat becomes a formality. Add three different ranged weapons to answer to any situation and there isn't any real challenge to find in this game. (shotgun !) The bestiary is thin as a paper, but there are some cool bosses, especially in the second half. Combat and exploration are barely rewarding. Fortunately, you quickly gain all the money to buy everything. There are lots of bugs. Being stuck on environment while fighting and dodging, the equipment menu being locked out of controller because the mouse cursor is around and has priority. The entire screen shaking like crazy because you exited the previous room while taking a hit, and many more. It didn't make the game unbeatable, it was just irritating, and pushing through the whimsical last dungeon had become a chore It is a very low thumbs up, i hope you'll have better luck than me
