Hotel Ever After: Ella's Wish (Dash-TM) Steam copy provided for Curator Review A huge departure from the usual GameHouse Original Stories fare, but still an enchanting journey. Options include a Full-screen toggle, choice of many languages and separate sliders for Music, Sound and Graphics. Story: On Ella's 18th birthday, her father will sign over the family legacy -- the only place she's ever called home. Things don't turn out as planned when Ella's stepmother refuses to let the hotel go to someone so young and issues a 60-day challenge: Make the place a two-star hotel, or lose her rights to the property permanently. Ella not only has to fight for her home, there's also the family curse to worry about... https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1941826612 There is a journal, of sorts, but I'll come back to that later. Gameplay: There are a few familiar aspects to the game such as the presence of Carl the mouse, but the overall feeling of the game is much different than you might expect if you're a fan of the Snuggford-related games. One major change is that you have to double-click (instead of right-click) to remove items from your tray... That definitely tripped me up a few times! lol~ Ella is a driven young woman who has a dream for the family hotel, but she is also very much a teenager. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1943106216 The in-game social media plays a huge part in the storyline and game mechanics, which is part of what makes the gameplay so different from the other GH Stories games, and this is where the journaling aspect comes into play: Twinkle is a record of of the instant messages between characters, Storybook shows how close you are to the free upgrades you get from "likes" on social media, and Snapgram has some pretty/funny photos that Ella takes during the game. You can boost your "likes" by giving excellent service (especially to VIP's and people who use their phones a lot). The mini-games are pretty easy for the most part -- nothing super-challenging. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1943108541 The screen above is how you restock one kind of product, but there are multiple areas and items that can only be restocked by courier (who comes automatically when you run out of something.) The game is not overly-hard, especially if you plan ahead, but there are a couple of unbalanced levels that are very difficult to get 3-stars on. Earning stars will get you money to spend on upgrades, and the diamonds that you earn by completing each day's goal are spent on special upgrades. Sights and Sounds: One departure from the norm that I really liked is the way the map is handled. It's not 10 levels, switch to a new location, rinse and repeat. Instead we are working in different areas of the hotel throughout each chapter. The front desk, the bar, the office... I never knew where I'd be playing next, and the way the devs handled it all makes sense with the flow of the story. As usual there are no voice overs and the sound effects/music are well-done. Visually the game is a treat, and the characters are both likeable and memorable. Verdict: Despite the huge focus on in-game social media, Ella's Wish is a charming tale which I enjoyed quite a bit. The gameplay is different than the norm, but I kind of liked how different it was. It would have been more fun (for me) if it had Steam and/or in-game achievements, and it really could have used more polish, but it's still worth playing if you like a good story. :)

I’m really fond of casual time-management games, games I can simply play in long or short sessions whenever I have a free moment. As such, GameHouse surprised us once again with a new series entry in the genre called Hotel Ever After – Ella’s Wish. As always, their games are episodic and therefore, the story with Ella doesn’t end with just this game. I’m glad that I’ll get to see more of her eventually as I really liked this new character and the addictive gameplay. Whilst I just assumed that this game was going to be a typical time-management game where you just have to serve your guest at a hotel, this game turnout out more magical and engaging than I would have thought. Hotel Ever After – Ella’s Wish contains multiple well-designed rooms which are clearly inspired by different Fairy Tales with Ella strongly reminding me of a certain princess… but I digress. Ella Centola grew up and was raised in a hotel which her father owns. This hotel is really special to her whole family as it has been owned by her family ever since her grandfather first established it. After her mother died, her father remarried and thus, she got a stepmother and a sister which she never seemed to get along with. One day, Ella’s life is turned upside down and her stepmother decides it’s time to knock down the hotel in favour of money. This is the last thing Ella needs right now as this isn’t the only tragedy the game presents us with. Ella doesn’t approve that her stepmother simply wants to tear down the precious hotel in order to build something more profitable, rather than keeping it active and within the family. As such, Ella makes a bet with her stepmother, she says she can turn the old hotel into a two-star establishment in exchange for keeping the building as it is. As she only has a few days to complete this bet, and the odds seem against her, her stepmother agrees to the terms and gives Ella the chance to try and increase the hotel’s quality. One thing I really enjoyed with Hotel Ever After is that you follow the development of Ella’s character, even when she starts to stray away from her original path. I mean, the hotel is incredibly important to Ella, so I couldn’t be mad at her when she did something I personally didn’t approve of. Luckily, she realises her mistakes and wants to make up for it, which is a good trait I would say and it adds a bit of depth to the story. Additionally, I loved the idea of the whole staff being Ella’s ‘real’ family who sticks with her no matter what might happen in the future. Obviously they raised her as well, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a given that they will stay around when things are different. Something I didn’t expect is to see was some romance scenes, although I don’t want to reveal too much… There are 60 stages in total and three different locations to take care of your guests. The stages change between the lobby, bar, and office. In the lobby and bar, you’re serving guests who are staying at your hotel while the office mostly gets visited by your staff when they need new items for their work. Ella’s pet, the frog, and the cat from her stepmother are accompanying her and of course, they need some attention as well. The cat and frog will ask for food and photo-shoots at times – allowing the player to get more points if they fulfil their requests. I have to admit that I struggled a little with the bar and found these stages most difficult. Here, you have to clean up after your guests when they’re done drinking and you have to decide whether you want to get extra combo points for delivering multiple objects at the same time or just get to the guests as soon as possible so they leave faster for new ones to come in. In all stages, after the prologue is done, there are mice hidden in them. They, however, don’t appear all in every stage and only stay for a limited period of time. It’s important to act fast here, between serving your guests, or else the player might miss catching it. Thankfully, there is a mouse sound played when one is available to catch, which works as a great notification (as long as your sound is on). In total, you can earn up to four stars in each stage within Hotel Ever After – Ella’s Wish, each star giving you 100 coins which you can use to upgrade certain objects within each room in order to get benefits during completing your guest’s requests. Another currency is diamonds which you can earn by completing set challenges. These challenges are different for each stage and I found some really tricky, whereas others I completed without even noticing. To unlock everything, achieving three stars and completing the challenges in all stages is necessary although there are no achievements available in this game. There are mini-games available as well such as refilling items or helping guests to complete their registration form. I found these mini-games really refreshing in between the time management gameplay, so I never got bored of serving my guests for hours, but admittedly, it also fits the gameplay very well. A new, very interesting feature here is that you can send text messages to your contacts – I liked this feature because it gave a better insight into other people’s thoughts and intentions. However, I found it a bit disappointing that you only have a single choice to reply to the messages you’re getting, so there is no way to influence the content as it’s all predetermined. While I absolutely love the graphics, and also the fairytale theme overall, I was greatly disappointed at certain cutscenes available as they are only made up of static images – I was even confused at first as I thought maybe the game was lagging. While I can look past that, my main issue is that these pictures seem to be a very low resolution, so it was super blurry on my monitor. These kinds of cutscenes don’t show up very often, but it still greatly bothered me. Another issue I noticed is that during the other kind of cutscenes, with the actual in-game graphics, the animation wasn’t done well as when the characters moved to another position, it looked like their feet were floating around on the floor. Nevertheless, the soundtrack is quite catchy and I even found myself humming the tunes after completing the game. While I had some issues with the animation and cutscenes, Hotel Ever After – Ella’s Wish is a lovely first entry of a new series. I really like the fairytale theme and liked the fact there was romance added, I couldn’t help but root for Ella to be able to keep her hotel. While I didn’t agree with every action she made when she strayed a little bit from her original path, I’m satisfied with the outcome and resolution this game has to offer in the end. Without spoiling anything, there is a cliffhanger in the end which will make you crave for the next entry. I’m looking forward to meeting Ella again and I can highly recommend Hotel Ever After – Ella’s Wish to anyone who enjoys time-management gameplay and magical themes – I personally couldn’t get enough of it! I usually feel discouraged about playing a game on Steam without achievements, but after forgetting about this game for years, I decided to give it a go, and it wasn't bad at all. You play Ella, who helps her father run their family Hotel; she always speaks about fairy tales and spends most of her time on social media (even during her shifts). Her stepmother disapproves of everything she does, and she shows little love to her father. As Ella's 18th birthday is nearing, her father promised to give her the hotel he inherited from his father for her as an owner; Ella became excited, but unfortunately, he passed away before her birthday, and her stepmother took the Hotel, and she made a deal with Ella if she turns the Hotel to two stars in 60 days, she'll give it to her willingly. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3378116919 The game mechanics, like all Gamehouse series, you click on the items and give them to the customers. There are 60 stages, but only three places to play: The lobby, The Office, and The Bar. Depends on the story flow. You also have to take photos or arrange them to upload them to social media to get more likes and rewards, especially when you serve customers who are using phones and texting on them all the time, which helps you to boost your hotel reputation. You also text the other staff members and talk about all the drama. As you play, the money you earn will allow you to upgrade the Hotel, but they are not all available for you; you'll unlock them as you progress into the story, and you'll not miss any of them if you get all the bonuses and three stars of all stages. You can't change the game's difficulty, but I found it easy except for a couple of stages in the bar, which seem imbalanced. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3377924453 The soundtracks are nice, and the voiced tracks are beautiful, but sometimes they glitch and stop playing. The artwork is pretty. I enjoyed the cutscene slideshows, but I wished they didn't flip very fast because sometimes I didn't get enough time to read the whole thing. Unfortunately, unlike their other games, there is no 'movie' section to replay those cutscenes. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3375952132 Pros: +Beautiful graphics. +Ok story. +Beautiful soundtracks. Cons: - Sound glitches on some levels, and the music stops playing. - Needs custom mouse cursor (Sometimes you can't see the default small system cursor when the stage is busy) - No steam cloud. -No Steam achievements. If you run out of their games, pick up this one at a good discount because you are not missing too much. You'll enjoy this game if you like social media and fairy tale stories. Short but sweet. For the price, I think it is a little too short. Difficulty for me is nonexistent. Story is fun. It maybe quite cliche but it got me playing through all the levels and I am quite excited for the sequels. It's a great time waster. :)
I love the games that this developer puts out, but this one is just not nearly as polished as it should be. The concept is interesting and the story has so much potential. It's sad, really, that the execution seems so rushed, yet nothing is ever explained. Granted, I haven't completed the game (got through 38 of 60 lvls), so I don't know if it gets infinitely better towards the end or not, but so far it has been a mess. Cutscenes that doesn't resolve anything and ends abruptly, character designs messing up (default shirt and gala-dress mixing together), broken minigames that doesn't give all of the hearts that you should get, thus decreasing your score... It leaves a lot to be desired and I honestly think that it's a shame, because it had the potential to be an awesome title like the Delicious-, Fabulous- or Heart's Medicine-series.
First off let me start by saying this is such a disappointment of a game, there's no achievement list in the game or Steam, you have to double click so many times in a level just to deliver the product to the customers making it hard to reach your goal. The hearts of each customer is faulty, when you do a special mini game to make the hearts more it doesn't even go up even when you've perfected the mini game. There's spelling errors in the chat bubbles, with words missing and those cutscene's are so fast, you can barely read to keep up with the story. Don't get me started on how many times the arms and fingers go through the characters, even the cellphone their holding is not even properly in their hands. Some characters even stand as a stick man as well and their legs not staying grounded when they stand still. But overall, the story is alright but still lacks in a story line and started to bore me. All of these small things make a game enjoyable, unfortunately I hated it and wouldn't recommend this game at all. At least I tried it!!
I liked the game personally but the ending was so lazy. It leaves a ton of questions unanswered. There is no challenge mode or anything for after you complete the game. It isn't worth the $12.99 price.
