About
Horticular is a relaxing garden-builder that begins with mysterious gnomes summoning you. Their wish? For you to breathe new life into a long-lost garden, abandoned by its previous caretaker.
Enter a magical world where you build up and expand a lush garden at your own pace. In your journey, you attract adorable animals to inhabit every corner; uncover helpful upgrades; and assist quirky characters for rewards and story development—all while juggling decay and fending off corruption sent by your nemesis!

Build and expand the garden of your dreams with hundreds of unlockable surface types and items. You set the pace and what to do next, whether it be developing a new vegetable area, progressing a lucrative story arch, or just sitting back and admiring your creation.

Create and preserve animal habitats to attract adorable creatures. Each species has its own requirements to fulfill before they pay you a visit, so you have to plan ahead if you want them all. Should you not take proper care of your inhabitants, they may leave you in pursuit of better luck elsewhere!

Immerse yourself in your personal garden diorama, complete with a day-night cycle and weather effects. But while a rainy and lantern-lit evening may be cozy, it is not just for show! You will find that darkness attracts unsavory characters, some animals prefer specific weather conditions, and lightning strikes loom under stormy skies.

Nurture your garden with magic. Over time, you will have to deal with unhappy animals, garden decay, and corrupted agents sent by your nemesis. But with a combination of helpful gnomes and your own magical gloves, you are sure to keep an everblooming environment.

Choose how your gardening journey develops by upgrading abilities and investing in new items. Since you make the decision, every playthrough is personal. But worry not; no choice locks you out of content, and you are able to collect everything!

Encounter multiple quirky characters writing you letters throughout the story. Each individual has their own specialty, and they frequently give you tasks to carry out in exchange for a reward. What you decide to pursue is completely up to you, and there is always something waiting to be done.
Rename inhabitants to personalize your garden.
Measure your horticultural career during the in-world gardener competition.
Exchange valuable plant nectar for new decorative items.
Snap pretty pictures in the camera mode and share your creation with the world.
Modify the game with easily accessed game data files and the included editor.

A nice balance between puzzle and casual decoration. Very relaxing!
C'est super
This game is so calm and it's an amazing sandbox. There's a discord server you can join and mods you can use. I definitely recommend!
I really enjoy this game! When I first started playing, I thought it would end up being another zoo builder type game, but it's more in depth than that and I love it! There's a lot to customize and change in the world, the animals are cute, I also appreciate how some of them like living with each other. The style is simple and cute, building is easy and fun, and there's a lot to learn/ unlock so it continues being new and rewarding as you progress. My only issue (which could be something I just haven't figured out how to do) Is it can be a little annoying to figure out which items are and aren't necessary in an animal's habitat. For example, if I'm making a place for a frog, I know how many tiles they want in their habitat. The issue is it can take some fiddling to figure out how many tiles you already have/ need, because you have to look at the plant in the menu to see what traits it adds versus just seeing it when you hover over it, or being told what tile your frog still wants. It just makes it take a bit longer to make changes, and I do find myself seeing my animals unhappy and not knowing what the problem is for a while and just dropping things randomly hoping to fix it before they leave. It isn't a big enough issue for me to turn the game off, but it can be frustrating. Like I said though, it's otherwise a very nice habitat restoring, animal attracting type game and I'm surprised I hadn't heard of it sooner! It definitely deserves more attention
Developed by inDirection Games and published by Slug Disco, Horticular: Build a Garden, Attract Wildlife offers a refreshing blend of garden design, wildlife conservation, and gentle management mechanics that delivers a deeply relaxing experience without sacrificing meaningful progression. Instead of focusing on farming for profit or surviving against harsh conditions, the game centers on restoring a forgotten magical garden that has been consumed by corruption. Guided by a group of mystical Keepers, players gradually reclaim neglected land and transform it into a vibrant sanctuary where nature can thrive once again. This narrative framework gives every improvement a sense of purpose while maintaining the calm atmosphere that defines the entire adventure. The game's greatest strength lies in the freedom it gives players to shape their own paradise. A wide variety of terrain types, flowers, shrubs, trees, decorative objects, and functional structures become available over time, allowing every garden to develop its own identity. Whether creating colorful botanical displays, peaceful woodland retreats, or carefully organized nature reserves, the building system encourages experimentation rather than perfection. Progress feels rewarding because each new unlock expands the possibilities instead of restricting creativity, and the absence of harsh penalties makes the experience welcoming to both newcomers and experienced simulation fans. The gradual pace ensures there is always another goal to pursue without making the game feel stressful. Wildlife plays an equally important role in the overall design. Animals are not simply cosmetic additions but active participants in the ecosystem, each requiring carefully crafted habitats before deciding to settle permanently. Players must consider environmental conditions, vegetation, terrain layouts, and available resources to attract different species. As more creatures arrive, the once-empty landscape evolves into a lively ecosystem full of movement and natural beauty. Maintaining these habitats becomes an enjoyable balancing act since neglected environments may drive wildlife away, encouraging thoughtful planning rather than random decoration. This ecological focus gives Horticular more depth than many cozy builders by making every design choice contribute to the health of the garden as a whole. Progression extends well beyond planting flowers. The magical storyline unfolds gradually through interactions with memorable characters who communicate through letters, offering tasks, rewards, and helpful guidance as the garden expands. At the same time, the lingering corruption serves as an ongoing obstacle that introduces occasional objectives requiring players to cleanse damaged areas before continuing their restoration efforts. Dynamic weather, changing seasons of activity, and the day-and-night cycle further enhance immersion by influencing wildlife behavior and environmental conditions. Features such as photography, gardening competitions, collectible exchanges, and extensive customization options provide additional incentives to continue refining the garden long after the primary objectives have been completed. Support for community-created content through the built-in editor and Steam Workshop also adds significant replay value for players who enjoy expanding their creative possibilities. Visually, Horticular captures the charm of a magical storybook with colorful environments, detailed plant life, and lively wildlife animations that make every section of the garden feel alive. The soundtrack complements this presentation with soothing music that perfectly matches the relaxed pace of gameplay. While the experience intentionally avoids high-pressure mechanics, its slow progression and emphasis on careful planning may not appeal to players seeking constant action or rapid advancement. Nevertheless, those design choices align perfectly with the game's philosophy of encouraging patience, creativity, and appreciation for nature instead of competition or efficiency. Horticular: Build a Garden, Attract Wildlife succeeds in creating a cozy simulation that feels both creative and meaningful. By combining satisfying garden customization, thoughtful ecosystem management, light storytelling, and a peaceful atmosphere, it offers an experience that remains engaging over many hours without losing its relaxing charm. It is an excellent choice for players who enjoy building beautiful environments, discovering wildlife, and watching a once-forgotten landscape slowly flourish through their own imagination and care. Rating: 8/10
This game is wonderful in so many ways! Once you get the hang of it, everything just falls together and then the next moment you are sinking hours into it. It reminds me very much of my beloved Viva Pinata (there is even a reference to the game in here!). Contrary to everyone complaining, the habitat system isn't that hard to understand, you just have to make sure the areas don't overlap with animals who hate each other. Also, the corruption system is akin to the Ruffians and Sour Pinatas in Viva Pinata. You can literally attract more gnomes to help you fight the corruption. It really isn't that stressful on relaxed mode and there is also a sandbox mode if it bothers you so much.
its almost a 2d version of viva pinata. Might be hard at first to understand how it works. the wiki helped a lot for that. If u like taking notes et do "math" its a good one.
Love it! Relaxing experience :) I like making habitats for tiny animals!
