Information / Review English
Horizon's Mirage falls into the 3D platformer genre, which was developed by High Performance Games.
Story / Gameplay
If you liked Mirrors Edge then you should definitely read on as this game might be for you. The game takes place in an abandoned cityscape littered with all sorts of anomalies and dangers. The core element of the game is agile movement in and on the city's buildings in the style of the urban sport parkour. The game is played in the first person perspective, in which head and body movements influence the field of vision and the perception of the surroundings. No so-called HUD is used. Skill powers can be unlocked through Skill Stations. Upgrades like air blast, height, double jump and slide are a must in this game. The player views the game world through the eyes of the protagonist, without being able to see displays for life energy and the like.
Pro
+ Mirrors Edge just different + Parkour system ensures “flow” + atmospheric background music + great lighting effects + fair reset points + good controls + Achievements
Contra
- some difficult individual sections
Conclusion
Horizon's Mirage is very reminiscent of Mirrors Edge only without enemies. If you like games of skill, you should definitely pick this up.
Informationen / Rezension Deutsch
Pro
+ Mirrors Edge nur anders + Parkour-System sorgt für »Flow« + stimmungsvolle Hintergrundmusik + tolle Lichteffekte + faire Rücksetzpunkte + gute Steuerung + Errungenschaften
Kontra
- teils schwere einzelne Abschnitte
Fazit
Horizon's Mirage erinnert stark an Mirrors Edge nur ohne Feinde. Wer Geschicklichkeitsspiele mag, sollte hier unbedingt zugreifen. This is just barely a recommendation, as I rated this 6/10 (for what it is) right after finishing it. And so what is it? It's clearly a Mirror's Edge stylized game, visuals and world design wise, but only that - the gameplay is not any similar, except for jumping/platforming, that's what they share in common. And this game is just that - jumping on platforms, jumping off of platforms, being launched into platforms, and dodging various obstacles. There is no story, nothing really linear, it's just that. So, what it actually does, it does pretty okay, all things considered. Movement feels okay, jumps mostly register correctly, although it's much worse when it comes to double jump, there is a sense of speed, the hitboxes/collisions are also quite okay most of the time. It's just that, okay. Except for the Slide ability, it's absolutely completely useless and it makes no sense to purchase it, ever. No obstacles ever requires it. This game's main problem is that... there is nothing more than just jumping on platforms, and jumping overall. There is some exploration, finding hidden purple balls of power and all, some wild Dark Souls-like obstacles. But there is almost no variety, no sense of progression, the obstacles and paths don't get weirder, faster, harder, more complicated with time. They are all completely basic. And I guess, if you're into a chill FPP platforming games, want no stress, only chill, then you're good to go. Want anything more spectacular or ambitious? Any challenge? Nope, not here. Optimization is at times pretty dire, the platforms with heating fans on them especially can cause your framerate to plummet for some reason, perhaps some issue with LOD system not working as intended (or actually not implemented at all, you can see the entire city and almost every small detail from the opposite end of the map, clearly an optimization nightmare). Visuals are pretty meh otherwise. Set reflections to medium or low or else you won't see a damn thing on the buildings, since High and Epic enables Ray Traced reflections that look like ♥♥♥♥, tank the framerate, and actually obscure the reflection/don't reflect anything at all. The art style of the city is pretty nice, definitely Mirror's Edge (1). Architecture is pretty basic when it comes to the sheer polygons and all. Basic-like is the main adjective I'd use for this game. Audio is okay, the music is very chill and atmospheric, it does its job. Now, for my own recommendations to the author of this game, for the future - - Sliding is purely useless, either remove so players dont waste power points on it, or integrate it into the gameplay, like having to pass an obstacle below, where you'd slide underneath it, - Add actual animations for mantling the edges, together with making it seems like a parkour game. Meaning - actual climbing, actual animations for it, more of the character visible while running (the hands)/animations for landing, - More, more, more variety when it comes to the obstacles, MUCH more variety, and with different difficulty levels to them. - Some more of collectibles, more hidden and with special parts of the city made for them, - Optimization, implementing some LOD system so the PC doesn't burn while looking at the distant buildings - Some short introduction to the "story", or at least an objective. Maybe some wild lore notes near the Skill Points ATMs? - Basically, much more content, and varied content. Try to transform it into something else than just jumping from one platform to another. Not close enough to Mirror's Edge, and too far from FPP Jump King. Bring depth to the game.
Proof that jumping on random assets in the air can be fun. There is no plot or reason to the game's world. You just begin high above the ground, amid the skyscrapers. Your goal is to reach a statue in the distance, but you will have to jump across several moving and static platforms to get there. Platforms hover in the air and may not make much sense, but the numerous assets nonetheless appear to belong in this environment. Except for the void below, saws and some swinging balls, there are basically no real threats to deal with. The controls are incredibly fluid, and your jump is generous and fair. The game contains elements of precision platforming, but you do not have to land your jumps flawlessly every time. Also, falling from a height does not kill you. However, while you can land on the buildings below, you may be unable to return. The only way out is to throw yourself into the void, after which you will resurrect at the last checkpoint you visited. Checkpoints are not everywhere, but they are spaced out at regular intervals to make reaching the next one a rewarding experience. The fun stems from the glowing orbs you can gather. Although visible from a distance, most orbs are hidden on top of skyscrapers or off the main path, making them easy to miss. This could be inconvenient for completionists because you never know how many you have missed. The good news is that you do not have to go to a checkpoint after getting an orb. You can easily throw oneself into a void, saving yourself the trouble of going back through tricky challenges. Once you reach a console, you can use orbs them to buy additional platforming abilities that make the whole experience more fun. The first thing you might want to get is a double-jump, which can correct a lot of missed jumps and make dodging threats easier, but there is also air dash, slide, and an immensely powerful jetpack. Although it requires recharging, it can be used to climb a skyscraper or skip an entire sections.
As a fan of CS KZ jumping maps, I enjoyed the game. It took about 1h to finish. I didn't chase all the optional points and powerups but found just enough to improve my odds (the double jump was most useful to me, though I didn't try all of them). The controls seem fairly forgiving - lots of air control, can slightly miss ledges and still get back on top - which was nice. My PC is below minimum requirements, however I managed to squeeze out 20-60 FPS (depending on where I look) by significantly reducing the internal rendering resolution. The 6GB of VRAM do not appear to be strictly necessary (I have 3GB). As with many UE5 games these days, it appears the developer has enabled Lumen - which in this case probably isn't adding much to the overall look but reduces performance significantly - would've been better if there was a way to turn that off (possibly replacing with a flat ambient color if lightmaps are too difficult to deal with).
A jumping Platformer with a giant scope, what's here is a simple fun run and jump game. The Mechanics remind me of "Mirrors Edge" and "A Story about my Uncle".
Amazing game ngl.
The most NERVE WRACKING Parkour game I have EVER played. THis game really tests your patience and GAMING SKILLS. Make your way from the starting point to the FINAL TOWER via platforming and SHEAR skill. OR LUCK Grab points along the way for upgrades such as SLIDE, DOUBLE JUMP, Time REDUCTION etc. I didn't need Slide, but Double Jump and Time Reduction really helped me reach the top. When I got next to the tower and I had to make my way up I was soo excited I could smell the tower LOL. The final climb to the TOWER was a pain in the bum with SHEAR GAMING SKILL AND LUCK. Time Reduction helped me a lot as I platformed to small triangles and small ledges and ledges deliberately roatetd the wrong way LOL. If your looking for a cheap fun game I highly recommend htis one. It's an action Parkour game that will really test your gaming skills. I thought this game would take me forever to reach the final tower, I thought it would take me around 4-5 hours but surprisingly I stuck to it and beat the game in 2 hours 11. PHEW. Happy with that. I am not going to play this again for the achievements. LOL. This game really makes your hands sweaty and heart skip a few beats. I kept thinking "don't look down". I hated looking down at the tower to plan where I was going to land, as it made me TENSE and my heart was going a mile a minute and my hands were sweaty but i kept persisting. I slipped off the tower edges a few times but thank goodness there's a checkpoint half way :) Great game. I highly recommend playing this game.
pas mal, mais c'est trop long, des cartes plus courtes auraient été mieux !
A Decent Platformer With A Few Hiccups
I activate my double jump at the last moment to clear the gap, and hit the ground running, preparing to jump to the next platform. I jump, but realize I'll come up short. I use my air dash to try and reach it, but realize the air dash will take me a bit too far. I fall to my death and restart at the checkpoint. Horizon's Mirage is a first-person platformer in the vein of games like Only Up! You're given a long series of assorted platforms and objects suspended in the air to jump across while trying to reach your ultimate destination of a giant glowing statue. This game does provide power-ups that you can earn that allow you some extra ways to traverse around the map, such as double-jump and air dash. Here's my thoughts: Pros: - Easy to Learn, Hard to Master: The game is simple enough: Jump from point to point. But there's definitely a lot of fun in learning how to move from platform to platform as quick as possible. Once you start throwing abilities into the mix it ups the challenge, pushing you to move as fast and as efficiently as you can. It's definitely great! - Upgrades: The upgrades/abilities really add to this. You have to find semi-hidden orbs around the map that give you points to unlock the abilities. This gives the game a bit of collection focus as you move around the map to find the next orb so you can afford your next upgrade. You can, of course, travel to the end with minimal upgrades, but doing so will really ramp up your challenge. Cons: - Low Replayability/High-ish Price: The game doesn't seem to have a ton to do, especially for the price it's at. While there's definitely areas to explore and see, there's only one map. In addition, there doesn't appear to be any sort of in-game leaderboards or anything that might have folks try speedrunning the game. Couple this with the $10 price tag, that may be a bit steep for what's available here. - Some Weird Bugs/Quirks: I don't quite know what to file this under, but something about the jumping just doesn't feel too great and makes it a bit hard to do, especially in first-person. It might have to do with landing not having any real sort of feedback, which led to me often falling off the edge of a platform I landed on as I desperately scrambled to stay on. Add to that there's not really any sort of vaulting mechanic, it can make it difficult to land on certain smaller platforms. Definitely a bit frustrating for a precision platformer. The game was overall fun, but did have a few flaws that ultimately keep me from giving it a glowing review. I'd say it's a solid 7-ish out of 10. If you're into these types of games, I'd say give it a go! Especially if it goes on sale. But if you do play: good luck! Try not to fall!
One of the best FPS Parkour games released this year. It relies on skill with very few moments that consist of frustrating speed traps or almost impossible jumps. There are also upgrades you can earn to make your trek a bit better. It's easy to head straight towards your goal, but the giant level has lots of really cool areas to explore too. Fun time.
