Hopalong: The Badlands

What a great game. It looks nice, it's responsive, the VO is very good (not too repetitive) and the maps are very clever. Lots of nooks and crannies. I feel like the aiming is a bit off at times especially shooting from a distance, but it could also be that other games are too forgiving. Not sure, but with unlimited ammo you can just keep shootin' and eventually you'll nail someone! I hope that this game gets a lot of attention and maybe even multilayer at some point.

The gameplay involves shooting bandits such as the notorious Dynamite gang, in your role as the crime fighting sheriff, whilst galloping on your stick horse around scenic landscapes. The game uses free locomotion, and you move using your horse with one hand, and your gun with the other hand to shoot the bandits. The use of the stick horse is a very unique and fun to experience way of implementing free locomotion, and works incredibly well for this game adding to the experience. The gameplay is otherwise typical of an FPS game, but enjoyable as there are several maps to explore, and the game could even be a little challenging at times as you juggle moving on your horse whilst using your weapon, as simultaneously you need to ensure your horses health is maintained by stopping to let it drink water which could be mid-shootout! The voice acting, sound effects and music are well done, and the game is also beautiful in terms of graphics. Overall, an extremely fun and enjoyable Western FPS game, with a locomotion experience unlike any other.

Hahahaha! That is really all I can say. The locomotion in this game is genius. Probably not a game I'll keep coming back to, though it is a good workout if you don't cheat. So the way you move in this game is by pretending you are a 6 year old kid riding a broom while pretending it is a horse. The faster your skip/hop the faster your horse runs. Watching someone play this game is quite entertaining as they look ridiculous. Playing the game also is ridiculous because in the game you are holding a stick with a stuffed horse head on the end of it, so you know exactly what you look like to those watching. There is some risk of motion sickness here. I found that when I stopped the horse, I instinctively leaned backwards and if I was going particularly fast it would sometimes almost cause me to fall over. Also, when riding the horse down a slope it can be pretty jarring and I found myself again leaning backwards. I recommend only playing this if you have a bit of space. It is _really_ easy to get immersed into the game and not realize that you are hopping off towards a wall. The VR chaperone is still there of course, but if you are close to a wall and then stop your horse in the middle of a gun fight it is easy to lean backwards into the wall.

Riding through the ol' west on a stick horse - I like it! Very immersive and very intuitive controls.

Really clever locomotion mechanic, and the gameplay is way more fun than any of the other VR shooting galleries I've seen so far. Only suggestion I have is maybe add that tunnel vision thing that a bunch of other VR games have when moving to help reduce motion sickness, because after about half an hour I was starting to feel a bit off, but otherwise I definitely enjoy it so far.

Better than most wave shooters and if you're a fan of the old west / Yosemite Sam cartoon style you'll love it! I had my doubts that there was enough challenge given the price tag however two hours later and I'm not even through chapter 1 of the 3 available chapters in the game. I'm there going to do a series on this fun little title. The stick horse mechanic while initially off putting can be a fun way to live action role play your way to fitness especially if you don't cheat by using only your arm movement and instead opt for full body movement. Amazing game! There just needs to be more!

Awesome game. I did have some issues with feeling a bit seasick at first. Then I learned to always face "forward" in the direction of the stick horse and it subsided. The look, gameplay, humor - is really addicting. Can't wait for the next update!

I simply love this game. It has a novel locomotion method - and I freaking laughed my rear off constantly the first time I played it. It's got a bit of a challenge, voice overs are fun....the game is just fun. I didn't find the movement nausea inducing, but I'm not prone to it. I'm sure, like other games, your mileage will vary.
