About
Hollowdeep is a first person dungeon crawler inspired by oldschool games of the ps1 era. There is a large focus on fast gameplay and parrying mechanics.
You can parry most enemy attacks which knocks back enemies and leaves them open for a follow up attack. parrying enemy projectiles is key to survival.
There are loads of spells in Hollowdeep. Many aren't just useful for combat but have other purposes when exploring the world. When you parry an enemy you restore some mana so you can keep spellcasting at a faster pace.
The world is filled with hidden areas and secrets for the player to find. You can find loads of different upgrades like rings, spells, weapons and moveset upgrades for the player. The world is interconnected with different upgrades allowing you to access areas that you previously could not.

I wanted to love this game, and I wanted to recommend it, but I just cannot. The game is way too big and feels empty. Combat is pretty basic too. The game lacks option settings, such as keybinds, sensitivity, etc. And the game momentarily lags when the first time an enemy shoots a projectile -- presumably from loading in the projectile. I found the lighting on The Jail to also be really weird. The game relies on save points, and there is seemingly no other way to save progress, and save points are few and far between, so you can get screwed over by a tough enemy and lose a lot of progress. Or do a bunch of boring backtracking. Enemies appear to not respawn either, which leaves an already empty-feeling world feeling even emptier in places you've been. Sorry dev!
honestly one of the most underated games on steam. in short it is a true dungeon crawler where you delve deep into a lost city sunk into the depths of the earth and the map design is very in vein with a metroid style with lots of secrets and shortcuts that weave through the various levels as well as traversal upgrades to access areas you couldn't before but it is mostly optional gear. the enemies are well designed you cannot button mash your way through. each mob and boss has not just patterns but tactics that you need to feel out. like stunning with a parry and stabbing in the back our deflection an attack back at your enemies. tldr just buy it honestly one the only games i would say is too low for what you get. i bought this game on accident thinking it was a different game but frankly found it to be pretty great
Not really a KF clone, more like its own thing leaning into Lunacid with a lot of movement-based spells and a metroidvania-like level structure. Very solid romp for the price.
================================================================================= Sorry, I can only give a negative review because I'm stuck and still can't find the strategy. I feel like I've gone through a lot of twists and turns but still can't find a new way. The game's scenes are too big, and I don't think it's necessary to be so big. It's really confusing, and there's no map to look up. Repeatedly finding the way, circling around the same scene over and over again. The guidance was done very poorly! Currently stuck in a green castle? Did you break two crystals? But the main entrance still couldn't be opened, and I couldn't find any other way. =================================================================================== I finally cleared the level. The only function of the weapon is damage, just choose the highest one. The core of this game is to block bullets and counterattack. Magic is useless except for killing minions, because most later bosses are basically immune to magic, and even counterattack magic. I don't understand why this design is necessary? I'm afraid it's too fast, boss, right? The high damage magic used in the later stages had little effect, while the ice cone magic could handle most situations. You basically had to use a grid block to deal damage to the boss. Fortunately, grid block bounce is very simple and not very difficult. The guidance of this game is really poor, the field of view is still small, and many game scenes are the same, making it difficult to distinguish where has been passed and where has not been passed. It's super easy to get lost. Some switches are pulled without knowing where they are turned on, such as the one for the Sunken Temple. You need to first pull down the joystick at the top, and then make sure to return to the original path and fall into the empty pit to see the boss. If you are not careful, you may jump over the pit directly or jump out from the highest point of the temple directly (at this time, you will have a two-stage jump or frog jump). There are also some jumping music games in the later stage, which are a bit too many. It is better not to have too many games that return to the save point with a single mistake and die with one hit (this game dies when it dies, the progress disappears directly, and it will not be inherited, after all, the previous type of save only has progress when you manually save it).I personally feel that playing is not as fun as the King's Secret Order(king's field), so I'm sorry but I won't change this negative review.
I didn't even see the game was out until I was checking my Wishlist, but I had seen snippets of it here and there. A fairly short game, took me around 4 hours to complete, but that didn't detract from the experience. I'd compare the game more to Lunacid than the King's Field series, with the modern control scheme and fast, simple to pick up gameplay. It scratched that itch for a dungeon exploration, and was fun for the ride. I'll place a few small issues within the review here as I usually do but they did not ruin the experience, as with Labyrinth of the Demon King, Lunacid, and Dungeons of Blood and Dream, I wish there was more, and in this case, a little more depth or variety. Weapons are mostly just pick highest damage, as there doesn't seem to be much in range or utility for them, while this kept it simple and fast, I passed over most and used the heavy sword, then Shotel, until I got the spiked mace, then switched for the void sword. I got the
Bloodmoon Greatsword
just for completions sake and to end the final boss rightly, much like I did an extra run through Labyrinth of the Demon King with the final blade for the flair. Spells were largely solid, though currently the crystal shard seems to have the ability to instantly kill just about anything in the game with the secondary explosion, I was using it and effectively deleted both the Heart and Guardian before I realized. Other than that, the hammer didn't seem very good for a late spell. For accessories, I found myself using health boosters or whatever I found until I got the damage rings, but the real kicker was finding the speed amulet which I refused to take off until the final boss because of how much better it made traversing and back tracking. Finally, there is a room in the swamp where if you jump off after draining it, it's a spot with a single mana shard in a chest, that if you don't have double jump, you are stuck and forced to reload. Other than that, nothing game breaking occurred. In total, absolutely worth the 5 bucks or so if you enjoy dungeon crawling games like Lunacid and the like. I hope more like this keep coming out.
