Hidden Fears (Moonlight Edition)

This game looks good but very clunky. Everything lags and the game even crashed after few minutes in. The voice-overs are not good either or the dialogue between the characters. I was surprised when the intro had no voice-overs but later they started to speak. It is unplayable as it is now but if the developers fix it, I'll update this review. I played this game on Windows 7 64 , so my experience may be different than for those using windows 10. I really pay attention to game's plots. This game didn't really have a plot, or at least one that was understandable. I always love fantasy and paranormal themes in a game but this game was confusing from the very beginning. The premise was that a young couple go to a resort for their honeymoon. From the start, they don't seem like a newly wedded couple . There is no dialogues between them showing affection, etc. They encounter another couple in the resort who are the hosts(?) but of course not really. From there. it gets VERY confusing. I won't give more away but will concentrate now on the game play. On my computer it was smooth except occasionally when accessing the walkthrough (my cursor disappeared ) It would return after I used the touch screen instead. The FROG scenes were tough as the fragments would all be the same colour and often a flashlight was necessary. Plus the indication for striking off each fragment was STRANGE..a runic line with a strike through. The graphics were the high point. They obviously spent a lot of time on them, but there was little with which to interact. Then the game took a big turn about and introduced action scenes . One was obliged to find and eliminate various ghosts. (I actually enjoyed this part, which could get quite tricky) So in summation; A game with a strange plot(and no discernible logic) but WITH fairly good voice overs Smooth enough game play, with no lag on transitions. There is a map with quick travel enabled, which I liked very much. It looked like a journal was meant to be incorporated but it simply turned out to be a very unhelpful list of tasks. I was often wandering around, wondering what to do. There is a walkthrough which I had to resort to once or twice but it WASN'T very helpful as it expected one to be following a certain path . Recommend? Yes for fun.... at the sale price it isn't a big loss...

I wanted to love this game but sadly it is terribly broken as it stands now. Controls are incredibly sluggish, changing screens takes forever and so far, with the sluggish response, the puzzles are impossible. The ghost battle mechanism is cool but again, sluggish response makes this feature not much fun to play. All in all, 2/10. Basically broken but if the devs fix the controls I'd love to give it another whirl.

Very slow, very clunky, some of the mini games don't seem to work properly. Takes about 10 seconds of blank screen as you enter each room before it opens. Really bad dialogue and acting!! Gave up! All in all a real disappointment.

The game is lagging during the tutorial mode every second. It is lagging when moving to next location. It is lagging when popup some help window. And I did not get the fighting ghosts. It is only few first screens and I do not want to continue. High level graphics and maybe innovative approach but so bad technical programming? It is really unpleasant experience. I purchased the game in bundle and I was just surprise by its inconsistency. It is easy to understand that old games are slower, stiff or troublesame in certain aspects. But new game like this? Recomendation NO till devs repair it. Maybe I will change my review. Just now it is buggy and strange.

This game is awful. If the incredibly clunky and sluggish user interface doesn't annoy you, the dumb premise, bottom-shelf voice acting, and eye-roll-inducing text will. There's also some kind of "combat system". It's bad. I don't think I've ever thrown a game into the trash so quickly. Avoid.

Hidden Fears features a newly-wed couple, Tony and Faith, who was lured into a haunted sanitarium under the false pretense of giving them a free stay at a "luxury hotel" out on the countryside. However, once they arrived, a psychopathic couple, Evan and Helen, kidnapped Faith away. They intended to put Tony's love for his wife through various grueling yet twisted "tests" including forcing him to battle the other insane and very much hostile ghostly inhabitants of the asylum, and getting him to solve puzzles in time to stop whatever torture devices Evan and Helen has strapped on Faith. [h1]Watch me play![/h1] Parts 1, 2 and 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-bNfEIqS4A The other Parts: Pending Unlike most HOGs that I've played, Hidden Fears is not only a lot creepier as it really takes the horror element to the next level (or it's maybe because I'm not the biggest horror fan); it's also a lot less "casual" especially during the various fight scenes where you'll need to be fast enough to react to the cues shown on the screen. As opposed to the usual HOG scenes, the "hidden objects" that the game asks you to find aren't exactly objects but rather parts of a single, useful object. Depending on how you like your HOGs, this can be either a "plus" or a "minus". The map is super useful in this game as well, especially considering how much backtracking you'll have to do if you don't have a map. However, I'd say that this game isn't a particularly well-made HOG mainly because the transition between locations/scenes takes much longer than expected, and the writing, especially the dialogue, can be pretty terrible. I really don't like Tony's (very monotonous) and some characters' voice acting too. There is also a handful of frustrating fights and puzzles, which I decided to skip. So, to sum everything up... [h1]Pros[/h1] + Creepy and pretty immersive atmosphere... maybe because I'm not exactly a huge fan of horror games and can be quite jumpy at times. + A pretty unique ghost-fighting system that will test your hand-and-eye coordination plus your reaction times + HO scenes that are different - you don't find a bunch of random objects but rather you find various parts of a single object which you'll then reassemble + Amazing graphics + Thank goodness for the map, though... honestly, it could have been improved. The icons shown on the map, such as the interact or the puzzle icons, should disappear once the puzzle or interactive element has been solved/completed. + Kept things simple. The game limits the amount of items you get to carry in such a way that you'll know exactly what you should do next depending on what items you have in your inventory. The "where" is a whole other matter, however. [h1]Cons[/h1] - Frustratingly long transition/loading time when moving from one scene or location to another - Rather generic "guy rescues damsel-in-distress" story that's set in... wait for it.... a sanitarium. Some parts of the story are also nonsensical I think. - Some terrible voice acting. Can Tony sound anymore unmotivated? - Combat can be confusing if you happen to skip the second fight (Did that in my first playthrough). There's also a certain indicator which will require you to double click rather than single click or click non-stop. This isn't mentioned in the tutorial and I had to discover this myself. - There are times when the background music is a lot louder than the voice acting - There's a text/dialogue glitch in the scene where you first saw Faith after she has been kidnapped. - Some typos [h1]Overall[/h1] Despite the somewhat generic and sometimes poorly-written storyline and setting, plus the couple of downsides that I've mentioned, Hidden Fears isn't exactly a terrible HOG per se. It does have some, somewhat, unique points like its combat system (I wasn't a fan of the ghost fights at first, but once I get used to the stuff I needed to do, it started to feel kind of fun) and the HO scenes where you find parts of the one item you need to reassemble. I also like how the game keep things simple by limiting the number of items you'll have to carry in your inventory at any single moment in the game. It does make it easier to know "what" to do next but not the "where" - this is where the hints come in! Anyway, I would recommend you try and play Hidden Fears if you really like horror-themed HOGs that aren't exactly designed for casual play. The game is more suitable for midcore to hardcore HOG fans, after all. However, due to the cons I've listed, I don't think the game is worth its full price. Buy it at a discount! Despite having a very interesting concept this HOG is just riddled with bugs and literately one of the most unbearably clunky game i have ever played. pros. interesting concept of fighting ghosts ok story cons. buggy laggy mouse (in the tutorial) the loading times between each scene can be up to 10 seconds!!! it is crazy the game isn't even that old. sometimes the subtitles overlap on each other and stay burned it on the screen so i had to restart the game. selecting items from the inventory sometimes won't work. it just make the items jump and do a flip. ugly graphics even though it original release date was in 2017. was it hidden in a time capsule?? there was one item to collect in an HO scene that was partly hidden behind the UI very annoying, unfair and time consuming puzzles cheesy voice acting unfairly ghost fighting mechanics which led you to miss many "combos" and made you restart the fight from the beginning. despite having an interesting concept i advice you to stay away from this game. unless you want to suffer and end up skipping every ghost fight and puzzle. it is just made to frustrate. 1/10 for the effort. stay way.
