Campaignbased RTS with a twitch! There is also nifty resource management to spice up the gameplay. Still in early access so there is not a huge amount of content, but it comes with great potential. Would recommend, 5/5.
Nice game! Game gets going a little bit slowly, but be patient. Once you are "there" you don't want to quit. Totally recommend.

Hexters is an ambitious hybrid strategy experience that attempts to merge city building, resource management, and light action into a single cohesive framework set inside a stylized digital universe. Rather than presenting a conventional fantasy or historical setting, the game frames its world as the interior of a computer system, where the player assumes the role of a “User” overseeing a population of small digital beings known as Hexters. This conceptual foundation immediately gives the game a distinctive identity, grounding its mechanics in the idea of data flow, power networks, and system stability rather than traditional economics or territory control. The core gameplay loop revolves around building and expanding a networked settlement within the Cyberscape. Players begin with a central hub and gradually extend outward by placing structures that must remain connected to the wider system in order to function. Power, represented as computational cycles, becomes the backbone of all activity, dictating whether buildings operate efficiently and whether Hexters can safely move beyond protected areas. This emphasis on connectivity gives the game a strong logistical focus, where thoughtful placement and planning are just as important as raw expansion. Watching the settlement grow from a small cluster of nodes into a sprawling digital infrastructure is one of the game’s most satisfying elements. Resource management plays a key role in sustaining this growth. Different buildings are required to extract, process, and enhance resources, and maintaining a stable balance is essential for long-term survival. The game encourages players to think carefully about how systems interact, as shortages or inefficiencies can quickly ripple through the network and stall progress. While the mechanics are not overwhelmingly complex, they reward attention and experimentation, especially as new structures and upgrades become available. This gradual layering of systems gives Hexters a steady sense of progression without overwhelming players early on. What distinguishes Hexters from more traditional city builders is the way it introduces tension through environmental threats and time-based challenges. As the Cyberscape transitions into its night phase, dangers emerge that force players to shift from pure expansion to defense and survival. Hexters themselves become more vulnerable outside illuminated or protected zones, and hostile digital anomalies begin to appear, threatening the stability of the network. These moments add urgency and contrast to the otherwise methodical pace, requiring players to adapt their layouts and strategies rather than endlessly optimizing for growth. Visually, the game leans heavily into a retro-futuristic aesthetic defined by glowing grids, geometric terrain, and neon-infused structures. This art style not only reinforces the digital theme but also helps convey important gameplay information at a glance, such as active connections, powered areas, and safe zones. The presentation feels deliberately minimalist yet cohesive, evoking classic depictions of cyberspace while remaining readable during complex management scenarios. The atmosphere is complemented by subtle audio design that reinforces the sense of operating within a living system rather than a natural world. It is important to note that Hexters remains an Early Access title, and this status is reflected in both its strengths and limitations. While the core systems are engaging and the concept is well defined, some areas feel incomplete or in need of further refinement. Content depth, long-term variety, and narrative development are present but not fully realized, and players seeking a fully polished, feature-complete strategy game may notice rough edges. At the same time, the foundation is solid, and the game’s design shows clear intent and direction rather than feeling unfocused or experimental for its own sake. Overall, Hexters stands out as a thoughtful and unconventional take on strategy and simulation, offering a distinctive setting and a network-driven approach to city building that sets it apart from more traditional entries in the genre. Its blend of calm expansion, logistical planning, and periodic survival pressure creates a rhythm that rewards patience and foresight. While its Early Access nature means it may not yet satisfy players looking for a finished, expansive campaign, those interested in hybrid strategy concepts and unique thematic worlds will find a compelling and promising experience that hints at even greater potential as development continues. Rating: 6/10
