Hex Rally Racers is a third-person racing game, but instead of driving cars or other bog-standard vehicles, you fly using broomsticks. Cast as one of a variety of whimsical witches, you must beat all of your opponents to the finish line, whether it's against bots in single player, or against your friends in local co-op. One of the things that surprised me the most when playing this was the noticeable level of complexity to some of the mechanics. While characters don't have their own unique stats, you are able to pick one of four classes which come with their own advantages and disadvantages. What class you pick determines the power-ups you can obtain when racing, and these range from magical projectiles, to protective shields. While the game may not be overflowing with content, what's there is quite fulfilling and entertaining to play. "Hex Rally Racers" is a student project from the Southern Methodists University Guildhall in Texas. This time it's a "kart" racer where you fly anime witches on broomsticks around one of six different tracks. Unfortunately there's no other players and not a lot of content, however I will say this year the students certainly passed after delivering a well polished and not unenjoyable, if simplistic kart racing experience. There's not a lot of depth here to the racing and you'll pretty much get sunk straight into going in circles around a track... and of course without other players (SteamDB tells a dire tale), there's no point in any of it. Developers must, as always, learn that PvP is not content. The graphics in this game are passable, but could be better. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections that gamers expect to have, which is also highly problematic. Developers must learn they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I had my cat walk over the keyboard while the EULA was displaying, which fixed that problem for me. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? This is a "maybe" experience... if you have a lot of free time on your hands and nothing else to do, why not? But for the purposes of a review, this isn't something I can say everyone must try. It's not quite there. Valve doesn't give us a "maybe" option in reviews, but if they did, that's what I'd choose for this.

학생이 만든 작품치고 나쁘지 않네요. 마카 느낌도 나고 아이템도 있으며, 조작감은 아쉽긴 하지만 그래도 이정도면 무난한거 같네요.

Hex Rally Racers Positives: + Good idea + Nice graphics + Colourful + Good sound and music + Nice sense of speed + Good handling + A lot of power ups + 6 nicely designed and varied tracks + 2 Grand prix races + Surprisingly fun + Its free Negatives: - No multiplayer mode (why??) - Some weird colour filtering - 6 tracks are not enough - Very short grand prix races - Very short length in general (over in under an hour) This was a surprisingly fun racing game. Its said to have mulitplayer, but thats nowhere to be seen. Too bad, because it would have been even more enjoyable with it. Its very short with only 6 nicely designed tracks, but its fun while it lasts. If you like mario kart, you'll most likely enjoy this as well. Total Score: 7.5/10
