While this game is great, the fact that I lost all my progress because the resolution is tied to my save file, without any actual way to change the resolution is one of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dumbest things I've ever seen. My old save file was set to 1080p, so the game would not scale up to my new 4K resolution. For this being an updated remaster, this is absolutely BAFFLING for a game released in 2021. Atleast we don't have the 30FPS cap of the original... Good game, horrendous PC version.
Game doesn't have resolution options, actually there's next to no graphic settings at all. What were the devs thinking? I bought the game because I enjoyed the console versions of the game. Sad to see that the PC port is in such a poor state. Can we please have resolution options????
This is incredibly strange. On one hand; this game is straight up excellent. It's so dope. It looks good, plays good, just overall excellent. On the other hand; the above comment only applies when I'm playing on my steam deck. I couldn't even get it to run on my PC. There's no way to change resolution, no basic options, nothing... I don't get it. I couldn't even get my controller to work. And It looks like updates are non-existent, so my gripes are pretty much set in stone. So, I guess this is a steam deck exclusive for me?
Really good game, but here is a somewhat major flaw: You cannot change the resolution (or graphics settings) in-game. Must be done by manually altering the .CFG file using a hex editor. There is a tutorial on how to do so in the Steam Community, but it is quite the headache. This probably won't be a problem for most users (unless you want 1440p or 4K), but continuing my save file on my secondary PC via Steam Cloud reduced the resolution (and quality?), playing again on my main PC did not restore it. Plays in the corner of my screen in 720p now. Such settings were configurable in-game in the non-Infinity version. Odd decision to remove such a basic feature, especially if the auto-detection doesn't seem to reliably work. I will have to fix/delete my save data and disable Cloud support to correct this. Quite the shame. As I find this version of the game preferable for having an unlocked framerate and proper XInput support. _ Really good arcadey flight combat racer. Only 6 courses-- but they are designed to also be raced in reverse, which can make some portions of a course look and feel quite different. Plus there is the unarmed ring race mode, which can get pretty wicked fast. The "campaign" provides a decently-structured way to play through, with the CPU difficulty progressively increasing as you advance (can be adjusted on a per-event basis). Cannot make your own solo offline single events, though. Pretty decent strategy involved in deciding what items to pick up, and whether to use them or recycle into booster fuel. There is some rubber-banding with how much boost you gain from recycling items, though it is still possible for the plane in 1st to gain a considerable lead (both human or CPU). Online is pretty much dead at this point, so getting those few unlocks and achievements for winning multiplayer online challenges is either impossible or maybe just requires a friend to hop on at the same time. VaporTRX is an old favorite arcade game of mine. This satisfies a similar itch in a bigger & better way.
Game was fine at early levels, pretty balanced etc. After unlocking stage 4 things get extremely difficult. The plane that AI drives is way more faster than it should be, AI can do extremely hard maneuvers even if their plane has 2 star on maneuver stat etc.
A garbage piece of software. Doesn't allow for something as simple as a resolution change, limiting gameplay to a tiny window in the corner of my display.
Absolute garbage money-grab "update" of a good game. My initial first impression was positive. I first tried it on my Steam Deck. It found Deck's 800p resolution just fine. It ran well. The controls worked. I wasn't really sure what was different from the original Skydrift, but meh. It's fine. Then I installed the game on my desktop. Now, I have an 1440p monitor, while the Steam Deck has an 800p display. Upon launching it on my desktop, The game was crammed into a little 800p screen in the corner of my monitor. First off, it seems it auto-detects resolution when you first launch it, which is fine, but there's NO resolution settings in the game at all. Zilch. None. Worse, it goes against Steamworks guidelines and saves the first detected resolution into Steam Cloud, so no matter what machine I use, I'm stuck with the Steam Deck resolution with no scaling at all, because I first launched it on a Steam Deck. There's not even an ini file you can adjust the resolution in. The only way to change it is to use a HEX EDITOR!?! Why? Even the original Skydrift had a resolution setting. As for the game itself, I don't see any difference from the original. It seems Handy Games got the rights to Skydrift, threw together this stupid downgrade, then resold it under the false pretense that it's like a remaster so gullible idiots like myself would fall for it and buy it again. At the very least, it goes on sale regularly and for super cheap, but I highly suggest you avoid this version and just get the original. https://store.steampowered.com/app/91100/SkyDrift/
it's HYDRO THUNDER with planes -- I love it!!
Note: This is the remake of SkyDrift, buy this instead of SkyDrift. One of the big additions of the remake is the multiplayer split screen (which I haven't had the chance to try yet). I love this game: working with the third dimension + multiple paths + boost + power up is just the right amount of stimulation to make you fully focused on the game at all times but without overwhelming you! Also, I don't know of a similar type of game*. Notable pros: - Gorgeous and interesting tracks. I have my favorites, but there isn't a track that I really don't want to play. - (Almost) all power ups have their utility and you'll be happy to use any of them, - Contrary to other comments, I don't find the rubberbanding to be too aggressive. but the game does require that you make good use of the boost system (I boost continuously by repeated bursts). - Game isn't that hard I'd say, just the right amount to make you want to improve yourself, and when you reach and win the final level, it is because you have a decent mastering of the game and its physics. Notable con: - In this remake, they added some planes from THQ licenses, but for the most part, they are just rubbish in terms of both stats and looks, so they just end up polluting your list of selectable planes in the menu. The Darksider-themed planes are especially ugly, - Such a shame that they were not able to gather a large enough community of payers for online to work (I can't start an online game because nobody else wants to play at the same time as you do), (*) Diddy Kong Racing's plane mode has similarities, but isn't as engaging/refined.
