Heroes of Hellas 3: Athens, developed and published by Alawar Casual, is a colorful and content-rich casual puzzle game that blends familiar match-3 mechanics with light city restoration and mythological flair. Set in a fantastical reimagining of ancient Greece, the game frames its puzzle action around the task of rebuilding Athens after catastrophe has left the city in ruins. Rather than presenting match-3 levels as isolated challenges, the game connects them to an overarching campaign that steadily transforms a devastated city into a thriving metropolis, giving players a clear sense of purpose and progression beyond simple score accumulation. The core gameplay revolves around hexagon-based match-3 boards that encourage fluid, chain-based matching rather than the traditional swap-two-tiles formula. Players click and drag across clusters of identical symbols to form chains, clearing tiles and earning resources with each successful move. This system feels intuitive and satisfying, especially when large chains trigger cascades and power-ups that clear wide sections of the board. Objectives vary from level to level, sometimes focusing on collecting specific tile types, breaking obstacles, or achieving target scores, which helps prevent the gameplay from feeling repetitive even across dozens of stages. As difficulty increases, the boards introduce more blockers, tighter layouts, and layered objectives that require more deliberate planning instead of pure pattern recognition. What elevates Heroes of Hellas 3: Athens above many standard match-3 titles is how these puzzle victories feed directly into the city-building layer. Gold and resources earned from puzzles are spent on reconstructing Athens piece by piece, restoring homes, marketplaces, temples, and civic structures that visually repopulate the city map. While this rebuilding system is not complex enough to qualify as a true management simulation, it provides a rewarding feedback loop that makes each puzzle feel meaningful. Watching the city gradually come back to life gives a strong sense of accomplishment and narrative momentum, reinforcing the idea that every cleared board contributes to a larger goal. The game also benefits from a generous amount of content and variety. The main campaign spans well over ninety levels, supplemented by bonus stages and optional challenges that add further longevity. Different puzzle modes appear throughout the game, altering how boards behave or how objectives must be completed, while occasional hidden-object scenes and side activities offer a welcome change of pace. These diversions prevent fatigue during longer play sessions and help maintain a steady rhythm of novelty without straying too far from the game’s core identity. Greek mythology plays a light but charming role in shaping the game’s personality. Legendary heroes and gods appear as allies who grant powerful abilities during puzzle stages, such as clearing rows, destroying obstacles, or boosting resource generation. These mythological elements function as both thematic dressing and mechanical tools, adding spectacle and strategic options without overcomplicating the experience. The tone remains playful and approachable, favoring colorful interpretations of myth rather than strict historical or mythological accuracy. Visually, Heroes of Hellas 3: Athens embraces a bright, cartoon-like art style that suits its casual nature. Environments are richly colored, symbols are clearly readable, and animations are smooth enough to make chain reactions feel impactful. The city map evolves visibly as buildings are restored, reinforcing progression in a way that is easy to appreciate at a glance. The soundtrack complements this presentation with upbeat, Mediterranean-inspired music that enhances immersion without becoming distracting, making the game comfortable to play in extended sessions. Despite its many strengths, the game does have limitations inherent to its genre. Some levels can feel longer than expected, especially when objectives require repeated clearing of stubborn obstacles. The city-building layer, while satisfying, remains largely linear and cosmetic, offering little room for player choice or strategy. Experienced puzzle players may also find that later challenges rely more on persistence than innovation. However, these issues are relatively minor and rarely detract from the overall enjoyment, particularly for players approaching the game as a relaxed, progression-driven puzzle experience. Overall, Heroes of Hellas 3: Athens succeeds as a polished and generously sized entry in the match-3 genre, distinguished by its hex-based mechanics, steady sense of progression, and charming mythological theme. It strikes a comfortable balance between accessibility and challenge, making it well-suited for casual players while still offering enough variety to hold attention over many hours. For fans of match-3 games who enjoy light narrative framing, visual rewards, and a strong feeling of forward momentum, Heroes of Hellas 3: Athens delivers a satisfying and engaging journey through puzzle-solving and city restoration. Rating: 8/10
What a hidden gem!!! Dind't expect much from this but was surprised by how polished the games is Mythology based match-3 game mixing some elements of hidden object scenes, assembly puzzles and light city building elements with beautful hand draw graphics
Reseña Desternillante de Heroes of Hellas 3: Athens
