it took me almost 2 hours to get through the first level, not because it was overly difficult but because it was so fun just exploring all the nooks and crannies. the atmosphere in Hello Cruel World is extremely effective at creating an eerie environment that isn't overly terrifying. i'm looking forward to exploring the rest of the levels and seeing the story progress! also, i could vibe sitting in the starting menu van for hours. i highly recommend checking this out if you have a VR headset! and if you don't, well, you can crab n grab deez nuts ;)
I came across this game while randomly browsing the VR store category and it seemed interesting and since I tend to enjoy puzzlers like this, I decided to give it a go. Sadly, I can't really recommend this game for a few reasons, most of which is that it's awfully boring. You can't interact with the vast majority of the environment so I spend most of the games reaching for objects, handles, drawers, etc only to grab onto nothing, which just breaks immersion and kind of negates the entire reason somebody like me plays VR. This is essentially a 2D game with VR controls. The game gives you a microphone hand, which is uh...ok, a microphone hand...sure... The game is also sprinkled with woke politics here and there. I only played it for about half an hour so I'm not sure how thick it gets, but it's certainly there. If that were its only crime, I'm sure most could overlook it. The stream chat thing seems like an interesting idea, but it's mostly generic responses that repeat over and over again and I find it just takes my attention away from the game in front of me. Overall, can't recommend. For a lot of these smaller indie companies, immersion just doesn't seem like a high priority, which in my opinion, should come first for any VR title. There's some neat ideas here, but they all seem half-baked and not all that fun. I put in for a refund. Maybe I'll grab it again when it hits the five bucks or less bin.
Hello Cruel World – Was ist los in der Krossen Krabbe? 👑 Powered by HoI 4 Deu Curators group in German / English 👑⠀⠀⠀

Follow Main group
Follow Second group
Follow Third group
English: Hello Cruel World - What's going on in the Krossen Krabbe? Akkupara Games got to the bottom of the question and sent us on a creepy puzzle hunt. We are something of a Urbexer, someone who likes to spend time in abandoned places. We are also streamers and broadcast our explorations live. Including chat. Our next project is the Crab 'n Grab. An abandoned crab burger store. But something is different to what we expected and the chat urges us to continue. Do we give in and move on? For all the scaredy-cats up front, despite what the developers say, Hello Cruel World is not really a horror game. It's scary because of the atmosphere, I won't deny that. But despite the creepy environment, there is no real feeling of horror. The game essentially consists of a series of puzzles in which we have to open electric doors until we finally reach the end. The puzzles are very repetitive and consist of moving pylons around each room so that the electricity flows where it is supposed to in order to open a door so that we can continue. Of course, this isn't always as easy as it sounds at first, sometimes you have to go in search of pylons to have enough to bridge a sufficient distance for the exit door to open. Graphically, Hello Cruel World is okay, but it is reminiscent of old smartphone games. The physics work, but we can only interact with things that are interesting for the puzzles, everything else is ghostly and we just reach through it. That's a great pity. We can also just stick our head through the wall and look into other rooms. The game has a lot of little bugs that can be annoying. The checkpoint system is confusing and sometimes you have things in your inventory that you didn't have before or vice versa when you reload. Hello Cruel World seems really interesting and the live chat idea is funny. It's fun to read what our viewers are thinking. But you soon realize that the chat stream repeats the same thing over and over again without really adding anything to the story. I expected the chat to be an important gameplay element, but all that came from the chat is saying you could use a flashlight or commenting on how much they like the stream. It's not the lack of horror, I didn't find that bad at all - the atmosphere is good, or the bugs that bothered me, but the slow pace of the game, the way you interact with the environment - not at all, and most of all the lack of variety in the puzzles. I give it a thumbs up because the game works and doesn't have chewing gum graphics. The short review on my curator page gives it a neutral because it's too boring for me. If you like solving simple puzzles in a creepy atmosphere, you can definitely check it out during a sale. 👀Discover gruesome puzzles🎊on my curator page. 👑 Powered by HoI 4 Deu Curators group in German / English 👑⠀⠀⠀

Follow Main group
Follow Second group
Follow Third group
Creepy, atmospheric, and engaging! I was immediately drawn into the the world and found the puzzle solving to be fun and challenging. Very cool game!
This is a neat physical puzzler with some novel twists. The stream chat is a pretty fun addition, too. I'm only a little ways into the game, but difficulty is hard enough to still be rewarding, but not particularly punishing. Definitely recommend giving this a try!
Edit: The 1.13 patch has fixed some of the more glaring bugs and a few level design issues, Im changing my review to positive, because the dev is listening to feedback though my opinion of the game play and story has not really changed. This is one of those games I wish there was a neutral option instead of recommend yes/no. The game is okay, It's not really a horror game like I was expecting but rather just a puzzle game with a gloomy aesthetic to it, there is pretty much only one puzzle mechanic to the game and that's making either sound or Electricity move between nodes, sometimes with your laser gun and poles or sometimes with this fixed paths that you must link up with. The game design never really takes full advantage of these mechanics, though I was kind of waiting for there to be a pitch up in difficulty, and it never came. It's also really easy to soft lock yourself into rooms by either recalling your laser nodes or sometimes when you look away the lasers path seems to reset and if you placed nodes to close it will sometimes jump to a different path, locking the door behind you, given that this is the core mechanic I would expect it would have been polished a little better. The Story without mentioning any spoilers is fine I guess, it didn't resonate with me, but I guess I can see how others might like it, I assumed that the whole twitch chat was going to play into it more, but it was really not a thing until it was hamfisted right into the last bit of story. I can take passable gameplay or I can handle a sort of weak story, but I don't think I can really do with both. edit: also I am just realizing I made it though the entire game without figuring out what the sound thing was supposed to work or what to do with it.
Puzzles so far seem to be twists on the same core interaction, which is somewhat disappointing. I keep hoping for more types of puzzles, more types of interactions, but the atmosphere, narrative, and vibes make up for it. Enjoyably spoopy game and the simulated stream chat feature which comments on the game in real time is a delightful novelty.
Yep this game sure does exist by the publishers of Rain World. This game is forgettable besides from the atmosphere that it creates. The puzzles can be janky and nothing really happens after the opening for a while. Don't recommend it unless on sale
It's good for what it is but I believe the sticker price is a little much for what it offers. One of the main issues I have with some VR games is the immersion factor and sadly this game does not do it justice. Outside of the game objects used in the puzzles there is really no interaction, so no opening any drawers, picking random things up, or even lore to pick up and read and that kinda kills the immersion. There are a few bugs as well with my top two being that you can lock yourself out or in an area if your not careful with the poles and your temp charges and there is next to no collision on the walls so you can poke your head through or even reach in and again, it kills the immersion. On a positive note I did like the puzzles as they were done differently from others and the atmosphere was creepy and fit the game well. The puzzles themselves were not that difficult so someone that's not great with puzzle games should not have any issues. Out of the last few puzzle games I've tried in VR this does have a story and it's not bad. Since I enjoyed the game I'll give it a thumbs up but It's definitely not for everyone. Think pancake ported to VR as that's the best I could describe it. There are some videos of the gameplay you can watch if your on the fence or you can always refund it if it's not what your looking for as you can get good idea of what to expect within the first hour.
