About
Hellish Quart is a local-only (two players play on one PC, not online), physics-based sword fighting game. Set in 17th century Poland, it features a cinematic story and the most iconic sword fighter archetypes of this period.
With motion-captured fencing techniques and four gamepad buttons representing four attack angles, you'll need to use timing, technique, and speed to defeat your opponents. Choose from a variety of warriors and take part in cinematic story mode, arcade mode, safe sparring, quick fights, survival mode with online leaderboards, or local multiplayer. If you want to hone your sword fighting skills, you can spar with wooden weapons or train in modern HEMA gear. And for the ultimate experience, Hellish Quart also offers an optional VR mode.
Please note that the game is still in development and only supports local multiplayer (two players play on one PC, not online).

Hellish Quart utilizes active ragdolls and real-time physics to get you the ultimate fencing experience. You can attack from four different angles using the four gamepad buttons. Different button combinations enable special attacks and combos. When you are not attacking, your character automatically assumes a defensive stance, blocking your opponent's attacks using the autoguard feature. Proper timing, technique, speed, measure, and wits are all crucial to winning, just like in real-world fencing.
The game is set in the historical 17th-century Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the character models are based on 3D-scanned, reconstructed clothes from that period. The single-player campaign, once completed, will be firmly rooted in the reality of life in the region. You will duel against Zaporozhian Cossacks, Polish Hussars, Tatars, Turkish Janissaries, Swedish Reiters, French Musketeers, and more.

This is a very promising game, especially for people who are interested in a much more realistic historic fencing experience when compared to nearly all other sword combat games on the market! No fancy backflips, magic, inhuman strength, or infinite stamina that allows the protagonist to slay hundreds of incapable nameless goons here. This is a much more tactical, realistic, fighting game which is a breath of fresh air to all the "Assassin's Creed" and "Prince of Persia, Sands of Time" type games out there. The motions are motion captured from actual fencing students attempting to replicate real Victorian Era combat. Historical European Martial Arts practitioners are going to love this game! However, this game has been stuck in an alpha stage for a very long time now. I think the developers would greatly benefit from a larger team to help bring this game to completion, or, at least, a beta pre-release stage. As it stands right now, the critical physics system is very buggy, the campaign is too short, and the characters are woefully unbalanced. It's difficult for me to recommend this game to my friends at this time, because many gamers would find the bugs and imbalances too frustrating. Instead, I show them video of the gameplay and tell them to "wait until a stable release". In summary, I enjoy this game very much, but I don't think too many other people will in its languishing alpha state. I cannot post this review without committing a thumbs up/down, so I'm giving it a recommended "thumbs up" because I believe it has great potential.
Peak
This is the only video game I have ever encountered that manages to capture any of the dynamics of sword fighting. If you've studied historical swordsmanship and want a game that has any relation to that experience, this is worth playing, despite it's pre-Alpha state. Excellent music, good characters and range of styles. I'd recommend damage at x1.2-1.3 if you want fully reallistic cutting ability, but the game does allow you to fine tune that and the timing also, which are excellent features that I commend the developr for including. One of very games I've enjoyed without modding. It's enjoyable enough that even if (Gods forbid!) the developer never finished it, I would in no way regret having bought it. It plays better for me in Xubuntu 24 than in Windows 11, which is a welcome novelty. It also plays smoothly on a discount notebook with no VRAM, whose only strength aside from being Lenovo is plentiful (40GB) RAM, so you definetely don't need anything high end to enjoy it.
Symulator sarmatyzmu kurrrrrwa!!!

Hotness
really nothing like it
An uniquely skill-based fighter which is very much worth your time if you sit down and learn what it's trying to do. It rewards patience, precision, and knowledge of both your own weapon's and your opponent's strengths and weaknesses. This game will kick your ass, but that's entirely a skill issue.
