This is straight-up boring. A nothingburger. Final Fury feels like an obscure 2012 mobile relic awkwardly ported to VR. How have VR fighting games, let alone VR games as a whole regressed this badly? The core mechanics are fundamentally flawed: combat is restricted to stiff, straight punches, while dodging is locked to a rigid two-axis system, making you feel trapped in a virtual shoebox (quite literally). Blocking is clunky and requires unnatural hand positioning. This is supposed to be a fast-paced action game, yet it offers less fluid control than other titles. Even non-VR titles like ARMS (2017) (so i have read). The game’s biggest offense is the Special Attack system. Performing a special (usually via an awkward gesture) triggers a jarring, nauseating third-person “cinematic” view that rips control away. You become a passive spectator, watching as the game determines a seemingly random hit, parry, or miss. There is no strategy, no quick recovery, no way to interrupt and it turns combat into pure roulette. Adding to the frustration, the AI doesn't "learn"; it simply cheats. On Hard, the opponent aggressively spams specials at low health in a "Perfect Play" panic mode, making the fight feel entirely RNG-driven. To top it off, the Arcade Mode lasts only 33 minutes, and unlockables are just color swaps. Verdict: Final Fury lacks depth, mastery, and skill. It's not a fighting game; it’s a shallow, stiff, gesture-based brawler. Some might defend it for its "exercise" or "short burst" fun, and perhaps it could have worked as a rhythm game or novelty fitness app... but as a refined fighter, it fails completely. Even at its Early Access price, it offers no value or depth compared to other polished VR titles, such as Thrill of the Fight. Skip this.
Fun cool figthing VR game. Have interesting designs and gameplay. It reminds me of old school arcade videogames. Thumbs up.
Gameplay Video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMLuAfki9dc Really fun arcade fighting game in VR - WILL CAUSE YOU TO SWEAT!! This was honestly a lot of fun and I will be interested to see when we add more characters or even if we get a 2v2 mode which would be WILD! This game has lots of potential and has room to be a fun VR fighter!
Game is gesture only based and doesn't feel like a fighting game. Cool characters and maps but the game is more who can pull off gestures in succession than actually fight. Mutant Boxing League has a great system for fighting and nails what i was expecting from this game. Since the fighting in this game is a core mechanic i don't think it will or can be fixed unless it gets a total overhaul.
Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
You can view my gameplay & early impressions here: https://youtu.be/VFDVAHGx19c For the budget price, this is a fun little title. It's basically an arcade fighter where you replace buttom-smashing with motion-controlled gestures. You can punch, block, dodge, counter, and do one of two specials unique to each fighter. The game is in Early Access, so it is bare-bones at the moment, but there is more than enough here for the price. Currently, there are 6 unique fighters, each with a unique theme and 2 unique special attacks. For single-player, there's a versus mode and an arcade mode. For multiplayer, you can join quickplay online or match up against a friend in pvp action. The good news is now you can play arcade while you wait for a quickplay online match. It does include cross-play with Quest! I had fun. It's more akin to rock-paper-scissors. You do have to be smart about the distance for attacks. You want to bait enemy attacks and then counter or keep them guessing with heavy pressure. I do think the game could use a bit more depth, where you have to build up your specials with normal attacks or smart defense. It seems it pays off to spam special attacks, at least on the medium difficulty (there are harder difficulties available). Final Fury is a long awaited 1-on-1 fighting game from Kluge Interactive. The developers are known for their music game - Synth Riders - that has become a hit. This game features a Force mode where one instead of touching colored orbs with precision one needs to use force (speed) to hit them. This alone could be used in a combat focused game but Final Fury is completely different beast. It is an unique game and if developed well it could become another hit. When I talk about a fighting game, I mean a game like Street Fighter, Tekken or Mortal Kombat. It may feel like an impossible feat to do in VR. Nonetheless after playing a bit of the early access I can see that there most likely is a way to bring some of the fighting game experience to VR. As one would expect, the game can be played solo against AI or against another player via online matching. After picking a character the game will put the player in an arena where they will first see each character enter with little intro, Tekken or Soul Calibur style. Then they will embody the chosen character and fight. The player can moves along 2 axes using thumbsticks, there's no possibility to jump or duck which feels very limiting. The movement along those two axes always keeps the player directly facing their opponent. Moves one can perform are triggered by an actual move. For a punch one needs to simply punch forward, for a throw one needs to reach forward and hug the air, for a block one needs to lift both fists and have them in front of their face. Special moves are also triggered by a different motion each. When throwing an opponent the player is moved away and up in the air to oversee the throw - this prevents motion sickness but can feel very awkward. There are 6 playable characters (one being an unlock) and each of them has two special attacks. Each character is different and has its strengths and weaknesses. For example, one character is slow, doesn't have much reach but is very strong. One character is fairly swift, both attacks have mid to long reach but she lacks raw power. Another one can shoot homing missiles and land timed mines which are both bad for short range. These differences can create favorable and unfavorable matchup. One notable thing is about distance, even short range attacks are done from fairly far away from the character model. The basic punches are actually ranged attacks. It also makes grabbing a bit more awkward as it happens from a distance one would not be able to grab. The notion of distance than becomes a bit distorted but this will become something each player will need to learn. The game couldn't be called a fighting game if timing wouldn't be important. I was surprised to see that having a good timing makes a difference in winning or losing (or being hit) and that alone gives me hope that this game can become functionally a fighting game. Visually the game looks great. Vibrant colors and stylish graphics fit well with fast paced combat. Soundtrack is full of energy and brings up the tempo. I believe that Final Fury can introduce VR gamers to a new game genre while providing little bit of workout.
Works on Reverb G2. I hated playing Final Fury from the first minutes. It does not feel like a VR brawler at all. There is no physicality to combat, just gestures replacing button presses, reminded me of Ultimechs in the worst way possible. Punches automatically fly toward opponents with no need to aim or angle, block parries projectiles from every direction, dodge is done with a button rather than physical duck or sidestep. It is all very unsatisfying, especially compared to actually entertaining VR arcadey brawlers like Brazen Blaze or Dragon Fist. The game is currently in EA stage, so some things may be improved. But I doubt that the whole core gameplay loop will be completely revamped, and no amount of additional content can fix it. Online player base appear dead, but it does not matter: with such bland core mechanics bots are indistinguishable from human opponents. Visuals are also not pleasing: there are seemingly no improvements for PC version, while the game looks bad even by Quest standards.
