SPACEGRASS SYSTEM SHOCK
Check out the full review on 2 Headed Hero! Despite the unfortunate name, Hell of Fear: Mind Breach is a fantastic effort from a small team. It's a tense corridor crawler in the vein of System Shock or Prey 2017, a puzzle box filled with monsters that the player slowly unlocks over its ten hour runtime. Solid shooter mechanics, meaningful character progression, thoughtful resource management, and several effective horror moments all come together here to make an enjoyable space station story that managed to grab my attention for an entire weekend. The true definition of a hidden gem, I only regret not checking it out sooner! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIOo-z2h1AM
For whatever reason the game didn't click with me. There's a lot of good stuff here and the Dev(s) are really talented but the gameplay just didn't do it... I didn't play much but whatever I did play, I really didn't like. I saw the Full Gameplay footage on youtube to see if maybe the game gets better and if I should keep it and try again... The game is only about 3-4 hours long and wasn't really impressed with what I saw. It's not a bad game by any means, I just felt the game is a bit slow and the mapping of the level/environment is more confusing than scary. The whole place gives me this claustrophobic feeling that's very unpleasant... and not in a fun way. Even though I didn't like it; I believe the Dev(s) are very talented and so I'm going to give it a "Check it out" anyway. I would pick it up on a Sale and see if it clicks with you. It might actually do the job but $16.99 is WAY too much which is why I can't recommend it... there are lots of other games offering more and charging less. Just one Gamers opinion though. I'm looking forward to see how the Dev(s) grows in this industry... They have a lot of potential and I'm looking forward to seeing what else they have planned in the future. I did play some of it on my channel but it wasn't much... I got bored: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyzDQU0eQOM&t=4586s (I play the game around 1:06:00)
A very good and immersive game. Where the story takes a wide range of directions, Lots of loot to find and freedom to exp[ore while staying on track. Increasingly difficult as you progress even for the experienced players. Good game!
To whom it might concern: To start I liked the game. Having said that I feel I would be remiss if I didn't point out a few things. 1 I agree with the comments on the backpack storage system that sucks. 2 All weapons become available as you go. So even though you get shot gun ammo you wont get the shotgun till later... MUCH later depending on your choices. 3 Yes you can break the boxes with the blue light on them. BUT only with the Sledgehammer. You can use the explosive rounds by dropping them and then shooting them. Watch how close you are as the blast radius is large and may take a huge chunk out of your armor. I didn't find them worth it. 4 The Q-Storage box sucks. Anything you store in one is in all. But it works like the backpack, doesn't matter about the weight just what fits. 5 Should be able to sell stuff to the machines or trade with survivors. Something!!!!! They can be eliminated later. But alas no. Other wise graphics where good for the type of game it is. The plot was not half bad. Yes in spots very predicable but the whole computer thing was worth the time. No got stuck spots like in walls or stuff. Also, at least for me , no crashes. All in all a solidly decent game. Cheers
Hell of Fear is an insanely good, but a bit janky, time. It's a shame it hasn't garnered more attention and I highly recommend it to anyone that's look for something new to add to their library.
Excellent little light immersive sim. Great gun play, challenging gameplay. Slightly samey leel design but that actually starts to help rather than hinder after a while. I find myself coming back over and over again for another run. Some jank, sometimes you get stuck on things or pushed outside the level, but overall suprisingly well polished and very fun.
good
muy buen survival horror
tl;dr: Good effort and fun for it's price. Takes inspiration from System Shock but unfortunately misses some things that made it great game. I want to see more from this dev, and more polish going into the environment, level design and the UI elements. Weapon and build variety would also be welcome. I was very thorough and ended the game with tons of supply caches everywhere and I'd say you can go through it in 15 hours if you are taking your time. The game looks and runs well, the graphics are simple and evoke a cartoony-horror feel matched with a quiet audio track in most environments. The theme is alright and without venturing too far into the plot, you discover that something went very wrong on this remote base and that you are all alone in facing it. You find weapons and key cards, listen to logs and gather clues as to what really happened before fighting a few bosses and ending your run. It's a compelling setup, and one we've seen before, but I wish the gameplay was better. There should have been better integration of your inventory and the economy, maybe a crafting/recycling system. I had so many bad mods I couldn't get rid of in some useful way, and food items that were not space efficient that I wished I could combine to make a bigger one. I found it useful to upgrade my weapons earlier but I found no real way to become resilient or carry more stuff. It didn't help when I died because I left the playable area due to a bug, or stepped off an invisible ledge. You have a relatively small inventory because you go through healing and armor items so fast; everything does tons of damage, even the environment. You also take enemies out quickly but they spawn so rapidly that it doesn't matter. The boss fights and arenas were painful due to clipping issues and your guy getting stuck on debris, and you needed to run around the bosses to kite them. In one fight I attempted to pick things up during combat, which was a complete mistake because it's hard to hit the pick-up prompt while sprinting. You also face the issue of fighting tons of enemies near the entrance of each sublevel rather than doing so in the stage, so many fights become impossible without tons of ammo or explosives. Save stations were plentiful, but access to bars (to block enemy spawns) and your global storage (very small) was spotty at best. The game didn't need so many levels and sublevels, and having some of them be more fleshed out and bigger would have been better than having so many small ones. You don't unlock many shortcuts either so there is a very annoying need to backtrack to pick things up after you exhaust your supplies. I used a text file opened in notepad to keep track of my progress in each sector and tended to concentrate supplies in places I could get to easier, but the game should have just given you better tools to handle these tasks. The backtracking never was a challenge but simply added tedium. There is no map view, but I found myself alright without it; it just breaks immersion when I have to look at another program to know where to go instead of having an editable diary in-game. There was a big display showing your current position on every railway station; couldn't something similar be used to display the layout of each floor? Maybe once you interact with that, you receive your own copy of the map and that makes it easier to track your progress ... I don't know! I just wish the game gave me more things to do instead of having to rely on another program.
The game is very repetitive, there is too much loot and too little unique and exciting loot
