Meh it's a hot mess of an arcade shooter. Progression is handled through obnoxious check points. Everything feels pretty basic and gets boring quick. Each level feels the same so it never really gets any better. Hard pass on this one.
I cannot give this game a good review even though i do like a good twin stick shooter which this sadly is not,the main problem is you cannot see what the hell is hitting you half the time, you can shoot a big asteroid from half a screen away and the bits that fly off come straight to the side of you every time its stupid and really annoying. The levels which have planets you cant see enemy missles clearly enough or enemies for that matter, the side of the arena is hard to tell where it ends so you end up stuck sometimes and trapped. The way the upgrades work is not really explained some are useless so a lot of trial and error will be needed ,buy the wrong one at the wrong time and you will get stuck unable to progress. If you are patient and don't mind really hard games look for it in the sale you may get a few hours out of it there are some good things about it like the nusic and for the money you get a lot of levels and they do vary.

I love these action games. Heckabomb is a twin stick shooter - xbox360 controller is best The game alternates between a score stage, where you have to collect salvage from destroying asteroids, to a survival like stage where you are required to 'move' (fly around) a certain distance. At the completion of each stage you can hyperspace out. You can upgrade weapons, armour, salvage collectors etc. and the game CAN be saved. Visually its appealling, the gameplay is action/arcade that is not a bullet hell style game, but one that can be successfully played with some practice. If you like twin stick shooters - get it 8/10
Defeat waves of asteroids and incoming enemies. After each stage you're able to buy new upgrades. Tight controls, game works good with controller. Might feel kinda luckluster nowadays, but still if you're looking for simple Asteroids-like gameplay just play it - it's simple yet good.
Whilst this seems to have potential, some amateurish mistakes make it less than fun to play First and foremost, cheap deaths are too common and they come from - Asteroids split when shot, fragments then 'appear out of nowhere' and that can be an unavoidable collision (they often appear some distance from the original explosion) - Loads of debris/bullets/rockets is common and it's not always obvious what is and isn't harmful - Your entire ship is a target (not just it's core) and it's pretty big wheras the play area is small so - well that's a thing... - Backgrounds are poorly designed - bright areas/areas of deep color which disguise enemies/missiles and generally make the game hard to look at for long periods All that deters me from bothering to play it any longer... Another issue lies in the upgrade system - it's obvious after a couple of playthroughs that there are traps/things which won't help you much and things which you MUST take to survive too. You can obviously learn which are which but some skills appear fairly useless so this could get a bit grindy The main issues are the unfair deaths tho - without some fixes to make 'harmful stuff' clearer and less unfairly positioned, I can't recommend this
Heckabomb isn't horrible but it's bland and uninteresting.
For $5.99, Heckabomb isn't worth trying out. It's bland, uninteresting, and just another generic space shooter. There's no story. The sound effects are bad, sometimes obnoxious. The levels are short, mixed into very repetitive transitions which involve random planets exploding as you leave them. The graphics are kinda nice if you play the game at a high resolution, but at the game's default resolution, it looks very dark and blurry. One of the areas of the game that needs improvement is the initial experience. You don't have a story to entice you to stick around for the harder levels, and most of the upgrade purchases appear to be rather uninteresting with a few exceptions. While you have Steam achievements, most of the levels don't really provide ample time to achieve anything ahead of when the game intended. There's little to put much thought into. You just continue through multiple levels of randomly shooting enemies and asteroids until you can afford an upgrade and then do that some more until you get too bored to play any longer.
A "fun while it lasts" twin stick shooter that looks like asteroids, but plays more like Super Stardust, only not as polished and not as good. Things start out promising: there's some variety, and a nice selection of upgrades between levels. The "collect salvage" levels are particularly fun, as the asteroids can quickly fill up the screen making dodging between explosions to pick up the glowy bits a blast. Unlike the other (timed) types of levels, you are at least somewhat in control of your own destiny on those. Problems start to creep in the mid-teen levels though. The upgrade system is somewhat crippled: you can't rearrange everything between levels, only upgrade some of what you have. Moreover, some upgrades like the secondary weapon are "locked in" once chosen. Unfortunately the most useful upgrade, shields, are consumable, so you are constantly re-upping those when you would rather be increasing your fire-power...and you will need to. By about level 17 or so, your guns start to feel severely underpowered. Even with a good spread shot, I could never quite get them to the point I wanted. Though you have a generous amount of extra lives, you can't change your upgrades between tries. Since the game only saves checkpoints every 10 levels, this leaves you having to play again from way...way...back when you just haven't chosen the right items. You will find yourself reaching level 18 or so and hitting a wall. Many, many tries later you might make it to the mid-20's and again, the same thing happens. You hit a wall that is just too hard to beat because you made the wrong choices earlier. All the lives in the world won't help you. So "just make the right choices" you say? No idea what those might be. A better solution would be to be able to add to your salvage (ie. currency) on replays so you can eventually upgrade. As is, perhaps there is some magical combination of upgrades that works, but I'll never find it. I'm too old to keep trying past the hours I've put into it, and there are lots of better, more balanced games out there to try instead. All in all, a game I really want to love, but one that I ultimately cannot.
If you know what grinding games are like, that's exactly what Heckabomb is. There's full controller support, but other than that, no special features or story. You're just spam shooting asteroids, collecting loot, kill enemies, rinse and repeat throughout all the levels in the campaign. You can get upgrades for your ship too, and there are new ships to use. It plays out as a top-down bullet hell game. For the graphics, my biggest issue is with some of the BGs like the asteroid once; it's visually difficult to see the real asteroids when it's mixed with the BG asteroids. I'm also not a fan of the screen flashes whenever we get hit, because that's an entire second of me being blind, and getting hit by other asteroids/enemies during that screen flash. Steam cards, steam leader boards and even achievements are there but that doesn't justify the game play experience itself. It's just repetitive, and there's no real-replay value to it. Hence, why I can't vouch for Heckabomb.
Well it is to basic in to many places to cal it good. First some positives, I like weapons, upgrades and especially secondary weapons like swirly snake laser thing :) And that is about that now some negatives: looks bad, even mobile space shooters looks better, on top of that there are way to many effects stapled together that very easily create chaos on screen and you can get hit or killed in this mess. you can turn off bloom, post process and turn on low details but stil to many and to big particle effects can easily obscure what is happening on screen, and on top of that whoel background is also to busy and distracting. Another thing you don't have in game menu, want change something? exit game and go to main menu and funny thing is you can't go to main menu or turn off game in between missions you actually have to go to next mission and then go to main menu :) And lastly levels you have 4 levels types one shoot meteorites and salvage money from them, next mission is to fight enemies for some time - until you reach planet and destroy it so on nest level you will have some new meteorite to destroy :) and you have this for 8 levels straight, super boring itself next after 8 repetitive levels you will have to survive ambush for some time and next level fight with enemies and warship until you reach planet, destroy it and you guest next level you will salvage asteroids :) Very boring concept. And one more thing, in the vast infinite cosmic space you can only move in smaller or bigger circle, not much freedom here :)
Ya basic.
