Hell Maiden picks up from the ending of the original Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri.
Dante is now inexplicably back in Hell after having reached Paradiso — and she's lost all her memories to boot! Unable to remember anything about her past life or her first journey through Hell, Dante is determined to climb her way back to Heaven and once again come face to face with Paradiso's higher powers in search for answers.
A compelling story about passion, justice and love, Hell Maiden is more than a reimagining of the classic poem — it is the exciting continuation of its events!

The gameplay is fun, but honestly it has TOO MANY CUTSCENES. Odd complaint to have, but like, I play 10 minutes worth of gameplay then have like 5+ minutes of cutscenes. The cutscene value is good, but ma'am I am here to kill hordes of enemies with a loli, not play a visual novel Still, good game so far
It would pain me to leave a bad review on this, so I don't think I will go that far, but the game needs work. Let's start with the good though: Its art style and sound design is fantastic. When a game's art is captivating and the music carries an uplifting tune, that's really important. And it really makes this game stand out. As a roguelike, of course the progression loop is pretty fun. As a bullethell, it's challenging. But is it the best in its genre? Sadly, this is where I have to speak up on how much this game is lacking. First of all, the weapons feel clunky and hard to direct. They tend to be slow to fire, and this stops them from being used to suppress enemies, keeping your movement busy. There is no auto aim option, so you can't really focus on avoiding projectiles as much, which I'm not personally a fan of. Second, the long-term upgrades are trash. They barely do anything, they're expensive, and the options are very limited. And they're incremental, which isn't very interesting. This means that if a stage is difficult for you, you will be stuck on that stage for a while because the meta progression is itself a slow process. Third, there are no unique events that can happen within rounds besides weapon and upgrade combinations (which are limited), except for saving characters, which is progression locked. This can feel pretty samey, especially after getting stuck on one of the levels. And lastly, you can chat with the characters you save between rounds (scripted conversations), but there is virtually nothing else to do. It had me feeling like the game could have more between-round content, part of me almost wanted an open world experience, just the vibe of it. These first three things really penalize the experience in an unnecessary way, and hopefully they improve the game before full release. Like I said the art and music are amazing, so much that I'm left wanting more - but the gameplay itself is quite clunky and would benefit from changes.

It's really great so far for early access. The art and music are incredible. It runs well on steamdeck.
The Dante game to play when you have no internet for the other Dante game and don't have/already finished the other Dante game but you want to play something Dante related.
My dearly beloved lesbian Dante, I've been waiting for you ❤️ Had a great time with the demo, and having a blast now all over again!!! Personally I suck at bullet heavens but I couldn't resist the idea of playing through a yuri sequel of the Divine Comedy, especially with such beautiful art and a banging soundtrack; when I first tried it I got addicted to the gameplay loop right away against my expectations, hence why I'm ecstatic that the EA is finally here. I haven't experienced any issues as of yet, but regardless I have no doubt that this dev team will do a fantastic job with Hell Maiden!
if mili sings in your game i bought your game
fun
Basically Dante's Inferno but with classic anime style and anime girl of Vampire Survivors. Overall aspects like the animation and music is really good and the voice acting too. Issues I found: - The xp orb only drops after enemies death animation which makes it a bit annoying to get, it should be whenever the enemies are dead, not after death animation - Burn and Poison are just not worth to get because it doesn't have consistent or better for handling it's ticks. I would like to see debuffs are highly balanced so in the future there is an option to use debuffs weapon deck builds - Not very sure but Curse cards are just straight up OP making the other cards are just useless. The balance of these cards are just unfair in my opinion - While in card selection, it's very janky. You will often place the cards in the wrong weapon deck cards. It would be nice if you could just click cards then click again to any weapon card deck you wish to add or if there is any way to fix this problem - There is a huge difficulty difference when you go from Circle 1 to Circle 2 become very absurd. The succubus is one of example, this enemy should NOT be in Circle 2 because it's very hard to dodge while circle 2 has too much going on. The only way to kill this enemy is just to have a Carpe Diem spam with 100% speed curse, bigger size, and 3 projectile upgrade or projectile curse then pray it will kill them. Despite there is still some issues were found. I will still recommend it anyway and worth give it a try Features I want to see in the future updates: - Add some kind of "Almanac" feature where you can read every characters Mod/Weapon cards information so that you will know what cards you will aim for every runs or building decks for every weapons - Add an actual "Hell Mode". For example Circle 1 is in harder version becomes way harder than original. Not only that, there are several new enemies with new mechanics exclusively. Because I want to see harder version of the same level, it would be best for every boss second phase(?) to be put in the harder level instead
