Abandonware
A dead, unfinished game that's better than most of its contemporaries, especially at this price point. I got it for less than $2 but wouldn't feel especially cheated if I got it for full price. The game has a powerful creator with very in depth customization, and AI game managers to fill pretty much any play style. The gameplay itself is smooth and deeply enjoyable with a ton of variety in location, vehicles, weapons, and even factional gameplay. Atmospherically the official maps and soundtrack do a better job of creating a post apocalyptic scene than most other open world games on the market. It's even relatively bug free. It makes the game's abandonment somewhat perplexing because this is absolutely there, it just needs polish to finish the help menu and fix the atrocious UI, especially around building and faction management. This game is just maybe two major updates from being one of the best of its genre. I can only assume something happened to stop development because even just a UI update would put this over the top. It's a great game that just was never quite finished.
I was excited for this over 4 years ago and picked it up wanting to support the development. Then they abandoned it a couple of months later. So much wasted potential. Feel ripped off. Then found out they are developing another game. Will never support this studio again.
i disliked the fact that the dev's gave up on this game it's a spin off of State Of Decay but with low poly graphic's. the AI in the game kept lagging my system due to loading in everything it was supposed to. the bases stash has a limit as to how many items you can have in it but its never stated how many. my comp specs are as follow's I7 12700k GPU Nvidia 3090 so i know its not my system.
Clearly abandoned but had some damn good potential :/
I bought the game because it was on sale, and it seems abandoned. It came out of early access, but it's a bit unplayable due to bugs that make you have to restart the game over and over again. The AI sometimes just stands there doing nothing, letting itself be killed by zombies, and they don't follow your orders either. I feel like they reactivate when I go looking for them or I'm near them (bug). The world feels empty. It had a lot of potential with a little more love.
I was following this game for while. I've also read all of this game's announcements and updates before it was abandoned in 2021. I actually liked this game as a disabled person that can't handle very bloody / gory fights.
PROS:
1. This survival game has a great amount of difficulty settings, also hefty variety of custom gameplay options around too about how can play the game. For comparison, majority of other survival games are forcing playing in one fixed difficulty / way. 2. Besides custom settings the game offers, the game itself also offers options for both God Mode and High Jump and Unlimited Sprint as well. 3. This game was working completely stable for me, and hovering around 60-80 FPS at 720p Windows mode and graphic Settings set to Medium as average performance. Note that I'm using pretty old GPU - AMD HD Radeon 7800 Series with 2 GB VRAM, you'll probably get much higher FPS even at higher graphic settings. 4. Both of Heavenworld's official maps has good variety of places and buildings to explore on, also the original one is pretty large. 5. It is also having a pretty much completed in-game map editor for building various custom maps. Heavenworld also has ability to putting various props on both of officials maps as one of its custom settings which is pretty rare for this genre. 6. There's amazing customization when creating your playable character! There are a LOT of characters you choose from - from ordinary people all way to various characters like: nuns, priests, wizards, cowboys, soldiers, princesses, captains, business mans, etc., as you can click same character to change her / his skin and clothing colors. Separately, you also have ability to choose a custom mode by click the lock pad above pre-defined characters, to put custom outfits, like hats, glasses, masks, vests and etc. In this aspect, despite being a lower-poly, it has a leading unmatched character customization for a such unfinished game. 7. Heavenworld also has ability to have followers to fight zombies along you, like Saints crew can do in older Saints Row games - Saints Row 2, Saints Row The Third and Saints Row IV.
CONS:
1. Game was abandoned in 2021, now even author's Twitter profile has been wiped and no longer exists. 2. Game uses a low-poly assets for its maps, which might not be appeal for some. 3. The "Decay Town" additional official map is pretty small. 4. Also there's major bug where loading a savegame instead of starting а new game will tank game's performance down to like 30 FPS. Unfortunately, since game is abandoned there will be never official bugfix for this (game's only) major issue. 5. When looting both dead bodies or boxes, there's no way to see what items you're about to get, you must confirm taking all items first before being able to see what you're got in your inventory (Although you can then just discard items you do not need.). 6. Despite game's Map editor is pretty much finished and working fine, game's Steam Workshop is pretty much dead now since the game itself was abandoned. I wouldn't be giving this game something like WOW! However, during my minor gameplay with battles and zombies disabled from game's custom settings, game itself was fully stable for me and I did NOT encountered any crashing issues at all. I would recommend do try it out if you're fan of zombie survival games when it's going on sale - then it's costing like 99 eurocents only! And if for some reason it doesn't work for you, you can always just return / refund it. My recommendations for this game are mostly for following scenarios: • You're searching for a game to killing some time; • If you're liking to build something using in-game's map editor; • Wanting to explore abandoned places peacefully or without dealing with tough zombies or battles, like lots of other survival games are doing; • If you're OK with this 30 FPS bug after loading a savegame; • If you're wanting to play on a weaker GPU or a lower-end PC system.
Important NOTE:
For unknown reasons, when launching the game, it'll straight put you at some tiny night urban street map without showing any Title Screen nor any gameplay options. If you CANNOT figure out how to start playing any of game's official maps, here how I've figured this out: 1. After launching and being put on that small urban street map, pause the game via the "ESC" key on keyboard and then click the "Map Editor" tab in upper left corner of screen; 2. The Game will leave said street tiny map and will put you on the in-game map editor; 3. Press "ESC" key do pause the game again (while on Map Editor) and then click "Save / Load" option in game's upper left corner; 4. This will show a small Select screen showing "Official" and "Decay Town" - those are both of game's official maps; 5. Click either of the two of your choice and the game will start loading it; 6. Then the game will shows the gameplay settings how you're wanting to play your new save; 7. Select anything from every gameplay field, note this only shows limited show of the more common gameplay options; 8. Click the "More Options" button on bottom of game's screen if going to use any of more advanced options and when done, click "Start Game" in lower right corner; 9. When map is loaded, game will shows list of many playable characters you can play with many clothing options and when done, click the middle checkmark button under "Create your Character" label...
10. …Wait a bit and you'll be able do finally start playing the game!
