Love it. Naively thought the stream shrine was just free items until about 20 in the world was a blur.
This game is doing some quite interesting things, and the lore and vibes are really rad - very intrigued by this bizarre world and trying to figure out what the hell is going on in it. Performance is pretty unstable and still a little buggy and janky, but not nearly to the extent of it being a dealbreaker. I'm enjoying this quite a lot.
I feel kind of bad for giving a negative review, as I really like the entire aesthetic of this game, and for such a low price tag, I don't feel like I wasted my money. Regardless, this game runs REALLY poorly on my setup (3080, 5900x, 32gb ram) and you might think that's par for the course in a Risk of Rain styled game, but I already feel the frames drop when I spawn in and just a few enemies appear. As the run progressed and I got stronger, the game would momentarily freeze, even causing the music to hitch when I parried projectiles. Now, frame drops are inconvenient, but even worse, it plays like it has framerate smoothing in an old Unreal Engine game, as each time the frames drop, it causes my mouse to ZOOM across the screen. It's really bad and feels terrible in combat. The gameplay itself is... alright. Very simple, but it's not bad for what it's trying to do. I was confused as to what I was supposed to be doing, and I ended up touching two pillars, killing two easy bosses, then kiting/killing around a big teleporter as I waited for a 15 minute timer to tick down. Then killed another boss, then beat the game?? I most likely would have given this a positive review, as the music and atmosphere feel really good. The garden area especially is beautiful, but the performance issues make this nigh unplayable for me.
played it too long and uhhhh blood started seeping from my gpu but once the priest finished up and i could play again i had a lot of fun honestly
Really cool game. the art style, atmosphere, music and writing ranges from stellar to pretty solid. I'm especially enamored with the world and the secrets put into it, one event where you ring bells in the central town (which I won't spoil) is especially evocative and lives in my brain rent free now. I'm torn on the gameplay aspect. While some runs can end up being pretty fun, most times the rougelike systems feel rather unengaging. With the randomness of drops (and sometimes complete lack of drops) and the general low item pool the runs do not feel distinct or different from one another. Rather everything sort of begins to homogenize together. Furthermore with the melee focus of the game it makes fighting some the enemies really tedious/annoying and not in a fun or engaging way which further detracts from the overall experience of playing the game. I did have some technical issues (Ie. stuttering and freezing especially as the enemy count increased) but honestly compared to some triple A releases this game is far more stable and playable. Ultimately as mixed as I am on the gameplay I would still recommend this game, its world is so severely beautiful in a such an ethereal and grimy way that even being able to pilot a camera around its environment would have been worth the price of entry. The fact that we got a working product with awesome music, pretty good writing, and (albeit questionable) gameplay is amazing. As far as I can tell, this is the developer's first project outside of modding ultrakill and its a very strong first entry. I can safely say that I am now a fan, and I will be closely anticipating whatever they do next!
Died because I literally dashed into the ground and got killed. Other than the problem, game is pretty hard yet sorta fun. Hoping I can currently unlock new characters along the way
Those were the most well spent 71 minutes of my life.
Cosmic horror ahh
