🎮 Have a N.I.C.E day! 🎮
Good, but a flawed version This likely is the only legal way to get a copy of this game that plays nice with modern systems. It's worth noting however that it misses the music and doesn't upscale very well. I experienced some flickering and misplaced "hitboxes" in the wacky menus. If you can live with that and just want to revisit this classic arcade racer then go ahead, it's still good fun for an afternoon of nostalgia. P.S.: Played through Wine on Linux, so displayed playtime isn't accurate.
**NOTICE: Normally, your playtime is not recorded by Steam at all, because it's opening a separate nondetectable by Steam window which emulates the old Windows this game was made for(or it might just be running the game normally and it being just undetectable just like Race07 & its DLCs that are counted as separate games according to the library). No one can post reviews here because everyone's playtime is 1 minute(and we need at least 6 minutes to make review), but I bypassed that check just to post this review.** This game's presentation is weird but rather iconic, dare I say...unique menus and options, character selection, upgrades, an interesting tournament system in which you can also race AIs by betting points earned in races & most importantly...WEAPONS. You have an insane amount of options for those, but I think I broke the game because of using...nails. I can just spam those one by one by pressing 8 when in first place and by the end of the lap everyone is dead. Kinda fun discovery after playing for 15 mins lmao. The others I am sure are quite good and entertaining(have tried like 3 of them) but felt cool I discovered that. Sadly, there is no music...I don't know what happened and why but they are not in game... It will take you a while to get used to the game, as in the first race you will most likely have trouble finishing the race without destroying your car through the track. After some upgrades and getting used to, you will get the hang of it. The AI can be a bit problematic even on lower difficulties but I think you can destroy them just fine if you keep upgrading even after losses. The menus are...something. You can probably tell from the screenshots they were made for fun, and I respect that. Also, savegames don't work...not sure if uninstalling also removes them or something but please make some backups if you find them. I couldn't find any info about that. All in all, the game has this strong 90's feel to it because...well, it came from '97 but it did not have that much amount of jank I was expecting, it is quite fun & entertaining. I really recommend, especially on sale & if you are into retro racing games. Not sure how much it would take you to "finish" the game, I can't quite put my finger on that one just yet.
One of the best 90s racing game I witnessed. A bit tricky to play with a modern Win 10 PC (I had to turn off compatible mode) but it works and it is still fun even to this day! it's not realistic don't exspect that: It is just fun. Music doesn't work because the original game launched music from a CD like a CD player did back then.
Okay, I don't know how I should feel about this. I bought this game because I really like old-school games and their art style. However, the game doesn't even run properly. To start it, you have to go into the game files and run it from one of the four executable files. When you launch it this way, Steam doesn't track your playtime. The game doesn't have a soundtrack because, back then, you needed to insert the game’s CD to play the music tracks. I saw that players can't write reviews unless they have spent some time in the game. I ended up with 15 hours of playtime because the game was running in the background without me knowing it. I bought this during the summer sales, so it's nothing, but without the discount, it's priced at €8.
🏎️ Análise – Have a N.I.C.E. Day! Nota: 7.5/10 – Corrida, caos e carisma dos anos 90! "Have a N.I.C.E. Day!" 🧠 Veredito final: "Have a N.I.C.E. Day!"
Have a N.I.C.E day! is a fast-paced arcade racing and vehicular combat title developed by Synetic GmbH and published by UniqueGames Publishing GmbH, originally released in the late 1990s and later made available on Steam as a retro reissue. It is very much a product of its era, designed around immediacy, spectacle, and exaggerated action rather than realism or simulation. The game throws players into chaotic races where speed, aggressive driving, and weapon usage are just as important as mastering the track layout, capturing the wild, unrestrained spirit of classic arcade racers that thrived before modern physics-heavy racing games became the norm. At its core, the game revolves around high-energy races on narrow, obstacle-filled tracks that leave little room for mistakes. Courses are packed with sharp turns, jumps, loops, and environmental hazards that demand constant attention and quick reflexes. Opponent AI is relentless, pushing hard to overtake and disrupt the player at every opportunity, often using weapons to knock rivals off course or slow them down. Winning races earns money, which feeds directly into the game’s progression loop by allowing players to upgrade their vehicles or unlock more advanced cars. This structure creates a satisfying rhythm of risk and reward, where each race feels like a step toward building a faster, more dangerous machine. Vehicle variety is one of the game’s more engaging aspects. Cars are divided into different leagues, each introducing machines with increasingly extreme performance characteristics. Early vehicles feel heavy and grounded, requiring careful control, while later cars become faster, more agile, and harder to manage, amplifying the sense of escalation as the game progresses. Each vehicle handles differently, encouraging experimentation and adaptation rather than relying on a single dominant driving style. Combined with weapon upgrades, this variety keeps the gameplay from becoming stale, even as the core mechanics remain consistent throughout the campaign. The driving model itself prioritizes excitement over precision. Cars can feel twitchy and unpredictable, especially at higher speeds, which adds to the sense of chaos but can also lead to moments of frustration. Collisions are frequent, and crashes often come abruptly due to the tight track design and aggressive AI behavior. However, this roughness is part of the game’s identity, reinforcing its arcade roots where spectacle and intensity outweigh smooth realism. Success often depends less on perfect racing lines and more on quick reactions, smart weapon use, and knowing when to take risks. Visually and technically, Have a N.I.C.E day! clearly shows its age. Graphics are simple by modern standards, with low-detail environments and basic effects that reflect the limitations of its original release period. Sound design is similarly dated, with functional but unremarkable engine noises and weapon effects. On modern systems, some technical quirks may appear, including minor interface issues or inconsistencies in audio playback, reminding players that this is a legacy title adapted rather than fully modernized. While these issues can detract from immersion, they are generally manageable for players approaching the game with appropriate expectations. What ultimately defines Have a N.I.C.E day! is its unapologetic commitment to arcade excess. There is little concern for balance in the modern sense, no attempt to guide players gently through learning curves, and no focus on long-term competitive play. Instead, it delivers short bursts of adrenaline fueled by speed, explosions, and constant pressure from rival racers. The absence of multiplayer in the Steam version limits its replay potential compared to contemporary arcade racers, but the single-player experience still offers enough content and variety to sustain interest for fans of the genre. In the end, Have a N.I.C.E day! stands as a nostalgic snapshot of a time when racing games were bold, rough around the edges, and more interested in fun than finesse. It may not appeal to players seeking polished visuals, realistic handling, or modern design sensibilities, but for those who appreciate classic arcade racing and vehicular combat, it delivers a raw and energetic experience. Judged within its historical context, it remains an entertaining and memorable example of old-school racing chaos, offering a reminder of how exhilarating games could be when they prioritized speed and spectacle above all else. Rating: 5/10
