I wanted to like this game, and im going to finish it, but thats because i have ocd not because its good or worth finishing. it has some charm, but whatever charm there is is bogged down by annoying things like unlikable characters (rafi and harold himself, has the personality of a wet towel) annoying and tedious side quests like having to trek all the way back to your room 6 seperate times to deliver a series of letters.... and Harold himself is an annoying dopey pushover sack of wet socks. The aliens are cool, i liked them, but the humans on the fedora are just so unlikable.
If you are looking for a game to just chill and vibe to this is perfect. There's not much of a game in here but it makes you think about things in a different light. I love the art style and setting its pretty cool. Only negative is and its not really a negative for me personally but it is a walking and talking sim.
There are aspects of this game that are amazing and there are aspects that loop back around to so bad it's good. This joins Troll 2 and The Stuff as another passion project motivated by a weirdly specific grievance. My dude, central air is great! Who hates air conditioning this much that they make an aircon guy a maniacal villain?
Had a crap day. This game made me feel an odd hope for humanity. Thanks <3 More useful to the general public, maybe: This game gives you an achievement for playing it slowly. This game is Art, or at least that's the impression I'm getting. The story is perfectly coherent and it's all very enjoyable without an art degree or deep interpretation. But I also get the feeling I could find some deeper meaning with some replays or pondering discussion in a [strike] book [/strike] game club. The physical 3D models are real cool and give the place and everything a very unique vibe. There's all sorts of different art styles and mechanics in places I wouldn't expect them to be, but whatever Vision the devs had, it works well together. Lots of nods to philosophy, issues of society, and the likes. But all tied down to individuals. I'm not sure I'd say the characters feel "realistic"... well, not realistic humans, but real characters, maybe? They're certainly distinct. Good writing too, sometimes deeper, sometimes more light hearted and funny, lots of lovely little details. Mostly linear story. Controls and tasks can feel a bit tedious at times, but I think that might be the point? After a while I didn't mind it much. Generally no technical issues, except cutscenes sometimes having some glitchy graphics, and a few places where Harold gets stuck on geometry sometimes (spamming A does the trick). Good game, recommend.
I'm very torn on the rating. On one hand it's beautifully made and realized. On the other I feel like I can barely call it a game. It's a walking simulator, dressed up as an adventure game, which really threw me (I like the latter, and dislike the former). I think the developers should have actually made a movie instead of a game. It would have forced them to trim the fat and cut out all the boring bits. While the game is interactive, this is mostly walking from A to B following your objectives, which got old for me real quick. The "challenge" lies in remembering who/where each person is. There are some extra "mini-games", which, again, are not puzzles/games. The setting and story explore some interesting themes, that are supported by the lack of choice and gameplay. So all in all... this is the least exciting game I've played in a long time (and bought on a whim, my bad). I can recommend it if you're looking for a slow paced, easy... activity. I'm still giving it a thumbs up, despite missing the mark for me, personally.
+ surface materials + worldbuilding - writing - dull gameplay in summary, it's just very boring. At least to the point where I've played, there's fairly little player agency. And things are like: "I have trouble with the connection, can you go ask someone for help". Player walks across the whole game world, watching the same transit animations several times. "No, I can't help". Player walks across the whole game world, watching the same animations several times. "Oh, I figured it out once you left. Forgot to send you a message". Don't these people have phones? Oh right! They do! edit: Got to the end. Didn't get much better. Slow walk after goodbyes (you'll know if you play it) was cruel and unusual.
