Reviews
I've been following this game's development for a while, so I was absolutely thrilled when it finally got it's full release on Steam! Movement. The biggest praise I can give about this game is that the movement is super clean. It's a fast-paced game, so it took me a while to get used to controlling my character, but everything clicked into place as soon as I figured it out. You have a lot of control (even while in the air), so it's easy to overcorrect and lose your stock, but that responsiveness also rewards careful play and practice. You definitely feel yourself getting better as you play more. Characters. The other big thing I love about HamSumo is that all eight characters are super distinct and fun. Some are pretty tricky to figure out (especially Hamako), but most of them are very approachable. Each character has different abilities and properties, so there's a lot to explore with each of them.

Captain Ham is a simple "all-around" character, but he still has cool setups with his funky Star Moves.
Hamstein starts off weak, but he gradually increases in power by spending Falling Stars.
Hamozuna is very big and slow, but his Star Moves exaggerate his defences and let him hit opponents from farther away.
Hamoichi is the fastest character in the game with some tricky movement, but that comes at the cost of having low weight and therefore survivability.
If you're looking for something more complex, the other characters all have something special to offer.
Stages. There are seven stages, and each of them brings something unique to the game. I especially like Starship Hamterprise and Industrial Lab since their layout changes the dynamics of the game by making it a lot riskier to chase after Fallen Stars. That being said, even the more flat "normal" stages lead to fun gameplay. Adventure Mode. Although this mode isn't fully released yet, it clearly has a lot of potential that I'm excited to see as the game gets updated. The characters are all really expressive, and the dialogue is witty and funny. Even just the first Chapter sets the stage for a lot of cool relationships to explore and moments to experience. Extra Content. The game doesn't have its Party Mode yet, so the only extra content right now is the "Hamapon" machine. Getting to buy silly hats for your characters is a great feature in any game. They add so much whimsy to the characters, and I love getting to put a bit of my own personality on top of my favourite characters. Competitive Potential. While it's a cutesy and silly game on the surface, it has clear potential as a serious competitive experience. Each character has obvious strengths and weaknesses, and they all have dynamic relationships with the other characters. After just a few games, you can really feel the way that traditional fighting games inspired this game. This game is awesome! The controls are great, the characters and stages are all dynamic and fun, and the content that's all on the way is absolutely worth waiting for. I'd recommend this game to anyone who would enjoy a fast-paced game that manages to balances silly physics-based combat and technical movement. I'm so excited to see how the game gets updated as time goes on!
i like hitting the 2 star hamozuna button
Captain Ham top one ham, Can Hat top one hat, Starship Hamterprise bottom one stage.
Cute, engaging game for single players or with up to 3 friends. The art is creative and unique, and each hamster feels like its own little character with a story. The music is nice and fits the theme, creating a playful, chaotic atmosphere. The controls are good, though I’m still getting used to them and to the overall chaos of the matches. It’s new for me, but it’s chaos in a fun way! The game is also child-friendly, even for the youngest players. So parents—grab your little ones, pick a hamster, and jump into the arena! :-) Considering it comes from a single developer, it’s a very impressive game. It just needs a bit of polishing in some areas and a finalized storyline, but that’s still in active development. It’s clear that a lot of love, dedication, and effort went into this game. Absolutely love it!
This game is a blast!! Especially with friends. It leans into chaos in the best way, with fun (if tricky to master) controls that reward pulling off crazy stunts. It’s also clear how much passion went into the story, characters, and overall vibe. The customization is a highlight; tons of silly and stylish hats that add personality to each hamster, even if some clip with certain hairstyles or more complex designs. Every hamster feels distinct, from their unique moves to their voices and animations, which makes experimenting with different play styles a joy. The music deserves a shoutout too, it’s upbeat, stage-fitting, and honestly fun to bop along to while duking it out.
Pros
Chaotic fun with friends with the multiplayer shining the most. Distinct hamster personalities with unique moves, voices, and animations. Customization options with lots of fun hats and styles to experiment with. Energetic soundtrack that keeps matches lively and engaging. Clear developer passion with pretty frequent updates and visible love for the project.
Cons
Customization clipping issues as some hats don’t fit perfectly. Incomplete content as story and planned extras still in development. Price feels high right now, however will be better value once the full package is released.
Overall Feeling
Right now, I’d give Hamsumo a solid 7/10. It’s a chaotic, personality-filled fighter that shines in multiplayer and oozes charm, even if it’s a bit rough around the edges. With more updates, completed story content, and polish, it has the potential to be a must-have party brawler. Until then, it’s already a great time with friends; that's completely full of promise for the future.
