(Biased since I worked on the game, which also means I have more hours than Steam will ever know) Pretty short experience, but decently fun way to spend 1-2 hours with friends (especially with younger kids) Music is really good. Character designs are nice. but the models are a bit stiff. Lighting is a too little harsh. All the little touches in the art and characters are really cute. Snakes are awesome, and the snake facts are a nice touch. For $5, 7/10 product, and supporting student games is always nice.
Also one of the devs! Great student game with the potential to grow into something larger if the team were to continue. IMO could use matchmaking/custom control binding for easier player access as you currently need 2 controllers and either steam remote play set up, or couch-pvp to enjoy the game. Overall, is easy to pick up and play, tutorial explains all of the mechanics sufficiently, charming art/premise, and a round-robin style tournament with friends in-person is a great bit of fun!

I am one of the developers of this game, so happy to see it published on Steam! This is a cartoony and round-robin style game to play with your friend. Easy to play (you just need to follow the super quick tutorial), and you will need 2 controllers.
I Attak, I Block, I Hissssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
One of the programmers here! This is a cute game to play with children as it is easy to learn, very cartoony, and the matches are pretty short (allowing for players to swap in and out quickly). The music is also great! I still have bits stuck in my head. More control options would be nice (you do need two controllers connected to play) and the lighting is a bit flat, but a ton of love was put into this game.
Heyo, I'm one of the devs! This is a simple arena fighter that's great to play with kids and is also fun for players of all skill levels. The snakes are adorable with their different outfits and I think the setting and art style is charming. The music ties the whole experience together nicely too. I do wish the snakes' animiations were smoother to really help the game-play shine. This is a fun, cartoony game that anyone can pick up and play!
Serpent Showdown is a charming little local two-player fighting game! Some friends of mine worked on it, and I think it's a real gem. Things I love: - How goofy the vibe is! The snakes are so cute - Simple controls: there are only 2 buttons (and a joystick for movement) and aiming is automatic - Projectiles, defending and parrying add a deceptive amount of depth to matches - Quick rounds: great for a party game (or settling an argument) - The music is super catchy! - Free snake facts on the main menu 🐍 Things that could be better: - No controller remapping: you can do it in Steam, but that's fiddly and can mess up menu controls - Variety: more stages, or even power-ups could spice up matches - Graphics: on the technical side, shadows cut off close to the camera, and the lighting feels a bit harsh IMO. - Art direction: As mentioned the snakes are so cute - but feels like there's untapped potential to add more texture and cartoony charm to the characters and environment - The big one - you need two controllers to play! A single player tutorial, practice mode or versus mode with a computer player would be fun. I'd love to see this as a split-screen game on the iPad (a-la Cricket Through the Ages), or even split-keyboard (like Bennet Foddy's Pole Riders, or Nidhogg). And of course, it'd be great on the Switch. All perfect formats for having a quick spur-of-the-moment match with a friend! Anyway those are my thoughts. Sound interesting to you? Grab your crayons, don your cardboard armour, and jump into the Snek Pit!
