[h2] Saving Our Little Sister from a Nightmarish Specter [/h2] The weather is starting to become cooler, and the leaves are beginning to change. That definitely means it’s Fall, so it’s the right time to play through any spooky games or Halloween-type ones. With that, the [i]Halloween Stories[/i] hidden object adventure game series is a great place for something cozy and spooky. Though, we're starting with the second game in the series. It’s Halloween night, and your parents have left you and your little sister home alone. You have a fun night planned ahead of you. However, this night isn’t going to go how you’d want. Your little sister wants a bedtime story read to her, so you choose a book. But this book unleashes a specter that is so evil and nightmarish. In the process, our sister gets kidnapped, and the world around us changes into a nightmare version. Can we learn why this specter stole our sister and save her before it’s too late? This is my second time playing this game, and I have to say that it’s just as fun as the first time. It’s also perfect for getting into the Halloween spirit. It’s not overtly scary, but it is pretty creepy and spooky. The game’s full of ghosts, spiders, ghouls, witchcraft, and other spooks. Like many other HO games, the graphics are beautiful yet simple, and the point-and-click gameplay is always fun. These types of games are always so relaxing to play through, no matter what day it is or time of the year. In terms of length, the game isn’t that long; it only has three chapters with a fourth bonus. I found the pacing to be decent, and if you do want to play, I should add that there is a bit of a back-and-forth motion throughout that can be a little excessive. If you’re not into that, this may not be for you. The story isn’t too convoluted, and I think it’s engaging for what it is. Throughout the game, you can find three different types of collectibles: thirty-one newspaper fragments, twelve Halloween figurines, and twenty-four morphing objects. Sadly, I had to replay the game to see one morph I missed, which was annoying. Remember to keep your eyes peeled when in search of these items. One other annoying aspect I experienced here and there was the game crashing three times. Thankfully, it didn’t take too much away from my playthrough. As an extra note, it would be cool if the first game, [i]Halloween Stories: Invitation[/i], was added to Steam. Maybe one day. [h1] 4 out of 5 ★★★★☆! [/h1]

Disappointing chapter in the Halloween Stories collection. There are better ones and I found the game annoying.

The first chapter was really great and atmospheric, but the subsequent ones (including the bonus one) were quite weak and rushed. The gameplay is mediocre; as with the other Elephant games, it is mostly limited to finding small figurines, each one useful only to find the next figurine. The difficulty level is low, recommended for the casual or beginner player. The graphics are great. Overall it's not bad and I recommend it, but there are several better games of this type.

Two girls are left alone for Halloween. A strange, dark book shows up and the elder of the two must rescue the younger.

This is a solid HOG with a variety of scene styles, item use puzzles, and minigames. I did have to skip one or two minigames due to tedium - but each minigame only appeared once, so I never found it annoying. The game DID crash on me twice in the first half of the game, but my progress was saved properly and the story continued without issue upon reboot. The story was a solid one, and the art was a delight. This is the second game in the Halloween Stories series, with the first entry unavailable on Steam, but as it seems the series is an anthology rather than continuous (like the Halloween movies were originally going to be...) I didn't find it any great loss. Looking forward to playing the next!

The graphics are creepy and exactly what I needed. The puzzles are good and overall I definitely recommend this game to others.
