I really like this game it is one of the better hacking games on steam at the moment, the story line is really good i will be trying to complete the game soon after playing, on another plus side the dev is really nice and very responsive to any changes you might suggest and to fix any bugs you might find. you got to give this game a go i would give it a big 8/10, a must buy for anybody into hacking games like myself, and even if your not give it a go you might be surprised.
3.5/10 Ever since playing Hacknet, I've been on the hunt for other experiences to scratch the "hacking" itch. However, the more of these titles that I play, the more I begin to think that perhaps I was just in the perfect mood to play Hacknet when I did. I also enjoyed Mainlining (although it's simplistic), but couldn't really get into Uplink or Retro Hacker. Although it's obvious almost immediately that Hacker.exe is a low-budget indie title, I wanted to give it a fair shot. I liked the music and the interface, although it sometimes seemed as though I had to click a little off-center to select the option I intended within the game's "computer." Outside of navigating the in-game web browser and dos prompt, as well as your phone, you'll spend much of your time playing the "hacking" and "encryption" mini-games. The hacking game resembles a tower defense game, with the player releasing "bugs" to travel along a path and attack turrets. Once you've destroyed the turrets along the route, you can release a special red bug that completes the hack. The encryption game resembles a rhythm game, with the player timing button presses to coincide with the moment that moving circles hover over targets. My first gripe with the game involves the hacking mini-game. At the beginning of the game, you'll be using yellow "bugs" to attack the towers. Although you have the option to upgrade the movement speed of the bugs through the in-game shop, the movement speed of the bugs in the mini-game is actually all over the place. Sometimes the bugs randomly speed up and pass each other, despite them all being technically identical. At one point, I released the red bug (which is defenseless) a few moments after releasing a few yellow bugs, and the red bug passed the yellow ones and was killed by a turret, failing the "hack." However, I had upgraded the speed of the yellow bugs, and had yet to touch any upgrades for the red one. You can buy bugs (and their associated upgrades) and programs by using "hixcoins." This currency can be "mined" (think bitcoin) if you have the appropriate program or earned from completing missions in-game. Another issue I had with the title involved my in-game computer being invaded by a security AI. This was fine, and a neat enough story beat, but it meant a game over for me. When I went back into the game, I found that my story progress had been saved at the beginning of the mission. I re-bought the bugs needed for the hack, and then went into the hacking mini-game. Unfortunately, the mini-game seems to vary in difficulty without much rhyme or reason. I failed it, and then saw that my money was low and I couldn't buy any more bugs. When I went to my desktop, I saw that the hixcoin miner was no longer there. So, the game saved some aspects of my progress but not others. I was stuck during this playthrough, with no way to earn any money, and had to restart. Between the inconsistent hacking mini-game and glitched progress, I decided that I'd had enough of this one. Perhaps there's a decent game beneath these irritations, but I'm not willing to do the work to uncover it.
the game launches in a small window that does not take up the entire screen, but when i go to change the settings to set it to fullscreen, i cannot hover over the button before my mouse goes outside the window and the cursor inside the game stops moving.
Unable to even complete the first steps of the tutorial :((( Wrong control system?
Crappily made game, horrible interface, corny jump scares, and unintuitive game play coupled with crappy or non-existent tutorials make this a frustrating experience that doesn't pay out with plot, well-crafted horror, or really anything. Please don't buy this game.
the overall layout was meh but could be improved
Tried to play 0.2 hours but still have too much to say... This game is full of bugs. -> The game started in tiny window and I couldn't change to the fullscreen because of the mouse speed problem. Mouse speed in the game is a lot lower than the actual speed. So when I wanted to press fullscreen and move my mouse to it, mouse goes out of the game window. Closed and reopened the game anf then for no known reason, in second launch this problem was solved. -> In first task, phone bugged for me, hint arrow shows me to open the phone even if I opened the phone. -> Interestingly, the clicking doesn't work sometimes. Sometimes right click works, sometimes left click. -> Search engine is not working, cannot enter domain name to visit or cannot search anything, if it is not because of the clicking problem. ->Even if I haven't completed the first mission, 10 percent of the game already seems completed. I am not satisfied as the game is too short and full of bugs. It need serious development and bug fixes.
В школе такому не научат. Однозначно рекомендую
The controls needs an overhaul. The response is significantly delayed. I can't play longer than a few minutes. I want to like the game, but I can't get anywhere in the game. Hopefully improvements can be made to improve the controls.
