Guns'n'Stories: Bulletproof VR, developed and published by MIROWIN, is a virtual reality shooter that embraces classic arcade sensibilities while wrapping them in a playful, exaggerated Wild West fantasy. Rather than striving for realism or deep simulation, the game focuses on delivering immediate, physical fun through VR gunplay, framed by an intentionally absurd narrative about a grizzled old cowboy recounting increasingly unbelievable stories from his past. This storytelling angle gives the game a sense of personality that helps distinguish it from more straightforward VR shooting galleries. The core gameplay is rooted in stationary, wave-based combat. Players are placed in fixed positions within stylized environments and must fend off waves of enemies attacking from multiple directions. The emphasis is on reflexes, spatial awareness, and physical engagement, as players dual-wield weapons, aim independently with each hand, and react to threats coming from all sides. The VR mechanics make even simple actions feel engaging, as ducking, leaning, and tracking targets with your body become natural parts of survival. While the gameplay loop itself is familiar, the tactile satisfaction of VR shooting gives it an energy that traditional flat-screen shooters lack. A notable mechanic that adds flair to the action is the ability to shoot incoming bullets out of the air. This feature reinforces the game’s exaggerated, tall-tale tone and adds a defensive layer beyond simply eliminating enemies as fast as possible. Timing shots to neutralize projectiles feels dramatic and empowering, especially when multiple threats overlap and the screen fills with chaos. These moments capture the game’s arcade spirit, where spectacle and responsiveness matter more than tactical depth. Weapon variety plays a significant role in maintaining engagement throughout the campaign. While the setting evokes classic Western imagery, the arsenal quickly veers into absurd territory, featuring over-the-top firearms that would never exist in a historically grounded cowboy tale. This intentional anachronism fits neatly within the narrative framing, as each new weapon feels like another exaggeration layered onto the old man’s story. Switching weapons keeps combat fresh and encourages experimentation, even if the underlying enemy behavior remains relatively simple. Visually, Guns'n'Stories: Bulletproof VR opts for a stylized, cartoon-like aesthetic rather than photorealism. Environments such as canyons, frontier towns, and desert outposts are colorful and readable, prioritizing clarity over detail. While textures and models may appear basic compared to higher-budget VR titles, the art direction supports smooth performance and avoids overwhelming the player during intense action. The visual simplicity also complements the game’s exaggerated tone, reinforcing that this is a playful interpretation of the Wild West rather than a serious depiction. Audio design further reinforces the game’s personality. The narrator’s gravelly voice and exaggerated dialogue provide constant commentary, reminding players that they are experiencing a story being told rather than objective reality. This narration can be charming and humorous, adding character to each level, though it may become repetitive for some players over longer sessions. Sound effects for gunfire and enemy reactions are punchy and clear, supporting the fast-paced nature of the combat without unnecessary complexity. The campaign itself is relatively short, consisting of a modest number of levels divided into acts. This limited length aligns with the game’s arcade roots and makes it well-suited for short VR sessions rather than extended play. Additional modes, such as arcade-style challenges, offer some replayability by encouraging higher scores and experimentation with different weapons and difficulties. However, the lack of significant enemy variety or evolving mechanics means that repetition eventually sets in for players seeking long-term depth. Difficulty is generally approachable, making the game accessible to newcomers to VR. As stages progress, enemy density increases and attacks become more aggressive, but the challenge rarely feels punishing. This balance allows players to enjoy the spectacle and physicality of VR shooting without excessive frustration. More experienced VR players may find the difficulty curve somewhat shallow, but the game’s focus on fun over mastery makes this an intentional design choice rather than a flaw. Overall, Guns'n'Stories: Bulletproof VR succeeds as a lighthearted, arcade-inspired VR shooter that values personality, physical engagement, and immediate fun. It does not attempt to redefine VR gameplay or deliver deep systems, but instead offers a polished, humorous shooting experience that works best in short bursts. Its exaggerated storytelling, satisfying gunplay, and accessible design make it an enjoyable option for players looking for a relaxed yet energetic VR title, especially those who appreciate playful themes and classic arcade-style action over complexity and realism. Rating: 8/10
